Many people migrated west for many reasons during the 1800's. Some of these reasons were government sponsored and others were not. Some examples of government sponsored reasons include the Homestead Acts, Mexican War, and the Gadsden Purchase. Some nongovernment sponsored reasons include the Gold Rush, and the Mormons. The Homestead Acts was one of the first reasons for westward expansion.

The events that occurred in response to the Red Scare not only reveals that the government was willing to discriminate against non-native and non-democratic Americans as a form of protection, but shows that many natural-born Americans still believe in “America for Americans” from the 1800’s, causing nativism to return. In fact, immigration was now limited more than ever, especially since the need for unskilled labors greatly decreased due to the effects of World War I. In addition to all these various anti-immigrant feelings arising within society, the very first quota system was established and enforced by the government. The Great Migration started in 1916 and lasted up to the 1970s. The Great Migration was the relocation of millions of African Americans from the south to the cities of the north. This had a huge impact on the urban life in the U.S. Many people at this time were looking for jobs to provide food and a place to live for their family. But because of housing tensions many African Americans had to create their own homes within cities.

Eric Foner places the Gilded Age as having lasted between 1870 and 1890 . The period was marked by rapid industrialization as the country sought to rebuild after the devastation of war. It was also characterized by various social, economic, and political changes as the state adjusted itself to fit the realities of the modern world. The Civil War had resulted in the abolition of slavery, and there was an influx of immigrants into the country who saw it as a chance to gain a better life . There were many divisions as to what direction the country was headed.

However, few take the time to truly contemplate the meaning of these words. When I hear these phrases, I think of the principles on which our country was founded: the right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. But perhaps more important than these rights are the defenders of them: our veterans.

The Great Migration is one of the most useful trips the blacks have made. The Great Migration was a lot of colored people making a trip to the north to find a better environment to live in other than the south because they did not like it at all. They’re life there was a lot better than as it was in the south. It wasn’t as segregated as the south, they had a lot better life there in the south. They had much more freedom before in the south but in the north they colored could vote.

The Latino immigrants faced many challenges when they first arrived in the United States. Mario Bauza was from Cuba. In his home town, he was always made fun of, once he arrived in New York, the freedom that he felt was amazing. He was a great clarinet player, but he was faced with the challenge to have to learn Jazz music. Once he career was off to a great start, he sent for his brother-in-law to join him in his career.

The Great Migration had the biggest influence on the United States by prompting the first major urban black movement in the north. Throughout 1910 and 1930, the African American population in the north increased by approximately 20%, including multiple cities such as Chicago, Manhattan, Detroit, Michigan, and Cleveland seeing some of the most significant population growth. As part of the Great Migration, approximately three hundred thousand African Americans migrated from rural southern areas to northern cities and suburbs. Throughout the Great Migration, African Americans started carving out an entirely unique identity in society for their own well-being.

Some Americans believed that United States had the right to take land that belonged to others for their needs and that the “moral justification” for this was that God intended for the America to grow and expand this was named the “manifest destiny.” To the average white American migration to the west meant a better living for families. Our readings suggest that during the 1830s-1850s as a result of the possibility of gold and territory expansion land was vast which created economic opportunities this made moving westward appealing to farmers, ranchers, miners, teachers, servants and others. Families traveled by wagons at times in harsh conditions.

I knew that it was a migration of the African Americans from the South to the North, and that they traveled because of unfair treatment and to try to obtain more rights that they didn’t originally have in the South. This topic interested me because I had some recollection of what had happened during the time period of the Great Migration from learning about it in the past and I wanted to learn more about what had happened during it. The Great Migration was a time of change it was a time where African-Americans had the chance for a nice life. During this time people of color were moving to the northern half of the USA, in order to get a new start. During this they had to leave the only life they knew in hopes for something better in a different place. To begin with, after World War 1 began in 1914 industries lacked the laborers in their urban cities.

How do these brave men and women get treated after serving our Country is an important issue, which is where originations like the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA), Disabled American Veterans (DAV), and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) come in to help.

What Made Migration Great? The Great Migration refers to the movement of African Americans from the rural South to the urban North and West between approximately 1910 and 1970. The Great Migration was great because of its important impact. There were several factors that made this migration "great" in terms of its importance and impact; Industrialization and the growth of urban areas, Jim Crow laws, societal inequality that followed the migration, and lastly the unhealthy circumstances that waited for the migrants in the North.
