Salem Witch Trials Twenty-five people were killed in the Salem Witch Trials including the nineteen who were hanged, one which was stoned and then those who died in prison awaiting trial. Even though these people weren’t witches, the villagers killed them on the accusations of some teens and a few adults. People just needed a scapegoat to explain away the negative impacts that were occurring in Salem Village in 1692. The victims of Salems prejudice were people as well.

The play takes place in Salem, Massacusetts in 1692, a place where during that time period you were not able to trust not only your neighbors but at times you could not trust you own family. Every where you looked there was someone getting accused of witchcraft. Once you were accused you had two choices, if you confess, whether or not you are guilty, you then have to live with the constant humiliation, but if you choose to not admit to witchcraft then you would be hanged. The Crucible by Arthur Miller is a play that shows many recurring themes. One of the most prominent themes is that jealousy is dangerous. The Bible talks about condemning witchcraft, so when a group of kids in the town of Salem, Massachusetts, is caught dancing in the forest with the devil, the community starts to panic. Miller shows how innocent puritans become bitter over time and accuse each other of witchcraft. The accused eventually get put on trial and are given the ultimatum, confess to dealing with the devil, or be publicly hanged.

The Crucible Reverend Hale So to start off i would like to explain the concept of the play the Crucible. It starts of in colonial Salem, It is a play about the salem witch trials. The two main characters are Abigail, and John Proctor, One thing you should know is that John is married yet had an affair with Abigail who was only about 12-13 at the time. The witch trials start when a bunch of the village girls are caught in the woods dancing around a fire with a cauldron in it. Abigail’s little sister faints when they are caught by Abigail's father Reverend Parris.

Who is to blame for the deaths and lies in The Crucible? The girls were some of the people who influenced the people to think and believe that witches were in their town. The town of Salem was horrified with the idea of the spirits being among the people. In this story many people were killed by the people because they believed they were witches making evil in their town. The girls were accused of dancing in the forest and made people believe they had special abilities that would help them see spirits inside people.

In the play The Crucible there are many liars and people that know how to deceive others. The play, by Arthur Miller, is set in the year of 1692 in the small town of Salem, Massachusetts. There is a theocratic society in place, which helped spin the problem at hand way out of proportion. Suspicions of witchcraft grow when a young girl suddenly becomes inert. People believe that her soul has been taken by the Devil.

The late 1600’s was a difficult time period for all member of Salem, and the neighboring cities that were drug into this mess. The executions of many accused witches had the whole community of edge. They were pitted against each other as the fight to survive was won by accusing others before you could be convicted. The winners of this battle were the children who initiated it including, but not limited to; Abigail Williams. The play, The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, was used as an allegory to express his feelings of his personal accusation of communist beliefs or practices during the 1940s and 1950s.

The Crucible, a play by Arthur Miller, takes place in the spring of 1692 in Salem Massachusetts, where on one night a group of girls were up to no good. Betty, Abigail, Mary, Ruth, Mercy, and other girls were caught dancing around a fire in the forest for more than just sport. Reverend Parris (Betty’s father) caught the girls in the act and believes something far worse was going on than just dancing. The townspeople believed witchcraft was about. Mr. Parris would not speak of such witchery going on in town to his congregation, especially when involving his own daughter.

Most of the characters’ actions and behavior was due to what they thought the community would think of them; this was because of their religious ways. In the very beginning of “The Crucible” Reverend Parris is described as a greedy person who cares about how much he has. So when Parris spotted his niece, Abigail, and his daughter dancing in the forest, he failed to tell anyone what he saw. I believe this was because he was afraid that if the community thought there was witchcraft in his household, he would lose his position as minister of Salem. So when it came up in the court he lied about it

The crucible is a story about a period in the 1960’s when a town of people used the bible as their law there are many people accused of being witches and suffer for it because they believe the devil was controlling them i feel bad for elizabeth,john, and tituba because they were innocent but suffered because of the accusations made by people and the court. Many people who don 't confess to being a witch were hung in front of the whole town. First john proctor was a man who was very respected in salem he had an affair with abigail williams and was later accused of being a witch by mary warren he was not a witch and was hung because he refused to confess to being a witch because he didn 't want to ruin his name because at this point in his

The Crucible, published in 1953 by Arthur Miller is a very popular book written about the 1692 Salem Witch Trials. While most people use the book to study the Witch Trials, with closer examination it is easy to conclude that it is a direct allegory to the Red Scare and the McCarthy era of 1950s America. An allegory is an extended metaphor in which the characters or objects in the story represent an outside meaning. The Crucible is an allegory to the Red Scare and the McCarthy era drastically by its plot, characters, and the flow and outcome of the court trials. To begin with, The Crucible is an allegory because the plot of the book closely resembles the events that occurred during the Red Scare.

The author's purpose is to inform the readers of the importance of the events of the Salem Witch Trials. In the play The Crucible the trials started off by a few girls and a slave naming off random names that are “witches”, because they were caught dancing in the woods and one of the girls was running in the woods naked. It soon became a frightening time for the residents of salem because the girls would call random people out and say they came to them in spirit and tried to kill them.

In “The Crucible,” many things happen to innocent people because of a group of girls. The play starts with this same group of girls, who are in the forest practicing witchcraft. During the time in which the play takes place, anyone who practiced witchcraft was sentenced and had to await trial to see whether or not they were innocent or guilty. This group of girls claimed they saw the Devil, and that some of the people were ‘seen’ with the Devil. They accused two innocent people named Sarah Good and Sarah Osborne.

Twenty people were executed as a result of the Salem witch trials, a reign of terror that swept up most of the characters in Arthur Miller’s play, The Crucible. Salem is a small Puritan town ruled by a theocratic government. The social order of Salem starts with the church leaders and wealthy male land owners and ends with young, unmarried woman and slaves. The church is structured as an earthly representation of biblical law and possesses the power to persecute those outside the holy edicts. Women are subservient to men, cannot own property and are viewed with suspicion in the church.

The Crucible is based on historical and true events that happened in the seventeenth century and tells the story of a Puritan society engulfed in Hysteria during what became known as the Salem Witch Trials. The trials started when a group of girls and the reverend’s daughter are caught dancing in the woods naked late at night. Even though it was against Puritan society to dance, Reverend Parris ignored it until, his daughter Betty Parris and, Ruth Putnam suddenly fell ill and suspects that they have been practicing witchcraft. The girls soon gain power mostly Abigail Williams and start pointing
