But still with all the attention, the case lacked evidence. In late 2003, Senior Constable Martyn and Mr King, checked the alibis of all known sex offenders in the sunshine coast. On the 21st of December they Interviewed Cowan. Both officers immediately became suspicious.
As of 12 December 2008, a total reward of $1,000,000 had been offered.
By early 2009, the investigation had seemingly run out of leads, but in May a full-size clay model of the man believed to be involved in Morcombe's abduction was placed at the spot where Morcombe disappeared. Within a few days there were more than 300 tip-offs. In July 2009, the parents of Morcombe called for a coronal Inquest in the hope of finding answers to their son's abduction and murder. The Morcombes said that after 5½ years, it was time for an inquest. Of particular interest to the family were several criminals who had told police

On 13 August 2011, Cowan was taken into custody and charged with Morcombe's murder and other offences, including child stealing, deprivation of liberty, indecent treatment of a child under 16, and interfering with a corpse. In 2006, Cowan had admitted to police that he travelled the road from which Morcombe disappeared on the same day of his disappearance, on his way to purchase marijuana from a drug dealer.[31][32] Around this time, a white Mitsubishi Pajero was seized from a property on Russell Island. The vehicle was believed to have been involved in Morcombe's abduction after a witness at the coronial inquest in April 2011 reported seeing a vehicle of similar description parked 100 metres (330 ft) north of the site where Morcombe was last

The ransom note was about two in a half pages long anf it did say that the criminals wanted one hundred and eighteen thousand dollars for JonBenet Ramsey. The ransom note stated that she would be exchanged for the money the very next day and if they didn’t go by the not JonBenet was going to be killed. When several minutes past then the police arrived which they didn’t accurately secure the crime scene although; a investigator that had arrive to the scene should have gathered and collected the evidence but didn’t happened until later.
It was not until months later that their actual statement was taken. It was 8 hours after the parents discovered the ransom note that she was found in the basement. The ransom note was from a notepad in the home which tells you either the suspect lived there or was extremely comfortable in the home. Whoever committed this crime had to have had access to JonBenet prior to her going to bed. (2015)

Desmond Holmes came from a long line of aristocrats, however his distant relatives would most likely turn in their graves if they knew what had become of the clan. The family had fallen on hard times; they were poor. Not poor like the “unfortunate” citizens of Oftbrook, Virginia, whose hardship consisted mostly of not being able to eat out every night. The Holmes were outsiders, and none of them were particularly bright, especially Desmond. Being an outsider makes one a target, but who could be a shooter in small town Virginia?

Man Monis was aged 49, and was very well known by police within Australia. In 1997, the Jessops told Kaufman that they still strongly believe their original time of 4:10 for the inquiry. The inquiry, written by Fred Kaufman, outlines many unreasonable measures taken by the police and the crown throughout Morin’s trial. A major issue in the case evolved from using jailhouse informants in an attempt to retrieve an in-custody statement from Morin. On April 22, 1985, Morin was taken to Whitby Jail.
But on the day of December 26, that did not happen. Police never got statements from anyone in the immediate family until almost 5 months later, and by that time the Ramsey family had gotten their hands on police files to help “prepare” for the interviews. Interviews with Fleet and Priscilla White, The Ramsey’s closest friends at the time, showed that John and Patsy were not being as cooperative as they were claiming to be on national news and television. The Whites eventually separated from the Ramseys, claiming that, they were frustrated with the way the investigation was going, nowhere. In “The Case of: JonBenét Ramsey” Clemente and Richards speak about how the District Attorneys Office (DA’s Office) was odd when it came to the grand jury and the actions taken during that time.
As with any criminal case, there are always a number of issues pertaining the stages of the crime and also the media and the general public’s opinion of the case. Many of the issues and explicit actions of certain individuals that had happened during the Corryn Rayney case had affected the interpretation of the case in someway for both government workers and the general public. By analysing the issues of the case, it allows a much more detailed view on the case and how most of the issues are linked in one way or another. One of the issues regarding this case was where a police officer had been found attempting to pressure forensic pathologists to alter their case reports to align with their best interests.
Three days after finding the body, police charged a family acquaintance, Mario McNeill, for the
