The Disappearance of Susan Cox Powell An explosion occurs within a suburban Washington home. This explosion brought about the climax of the case concerning the disappearance of Susan Cox Powell. On December 6th, 2009, Susan Cox Powell went missing after a camping trip with her husband, Joshua Powell, and her two sons, Charlie and Braden. A nationwide search ensued and suspicion quickly pointed towards Josh. While there is no physical evidence, in Susan’s case, that ties Josh to her disappearance, there is substantial implied evidence that makes him an incredibly likely suspect. Implied evidence means evidence that is found based on Josh’s behavior both before and after Susan’s disappearance. One piece of this evidence that was found was Susan’s cell phone in Josh’s van the day after she went missing. This confused the police because why would she leave her phone if she planned on going out by herself? Police quickly pointed Josh out as the prime suspect, considering his, and his two childrens’, testimony placed all four of them camping the night of Susan’s disappearance. Some other things that point toward Josh’s guilt is his demeanor as the case progressed. …show more content…
Susan’s own husband seemed to be the only person in the state that didn’t care about finding her. Josh actively avoided the police and every attempt made by the media to interview him. Even when the media succeeded in getting an interview with him and his two sons, Josh avoided any kind of question that would place him under further suspicion. The same cannot be said about Braden and Charlie. When asked about his mom, Charlie said, “My mom is staying where the crystals are”. This was a chilling thing for the boy to say and it also led the police to search the abandoned mineshafts
He was the last person to see her alive according to the witnesses. These witnesses include Bobby (Steven’s nephew) and Scott (Bobby’s step-dad), who both lived on the property and were there at the apparent time of the murder. Although this seems very suspicious, they were not ever classified as suspects; only witnesses. They were interviewed together in an informal setting, acting as each other’s alibi. Regarding other people being looked into as possible suspects, Colbourn said that “it would have been ideal”.
Susan Cox Powell mysteriously disappeared one night after her husband and two sons went on a camping trip. On the morning of December 7, 2009, Susan did not show up to daycare with the boys which is not like her. People became concerned as to where she was and eventually found out that she disappeared and nobody, including her husband Josh, knew where she was. Although there was no evidence against Josh Powell for the murder of his wife Susan, it is highly possible he committed the crime based on his behavior and what his children shared about that night.

Josh Powell. The murder of his wife. The missing persons' case of Susan Cox-Powell was a horrifying story that many understand is at the fault of her husband, the father of her two children. This case started back when they met when Susan was 18 and Josh was in his 20s. It was said that the two were having marital issues, and Josh wasn’t a greatly involved father.
The disappearance of Susan Cox Powell is a case full of dark, shocking twists that may reveal what happened to her. At a young age, Susan Cox met and married Josh Powell. The couple moved from their small town in Washington to another in Utah, and proceeded to have two children: Charlie and Braden Powell. On December 7, 2009, the boys did not show up to daycare. Worried, a worker at the daycare called the Powells, and then later the police.
When Sarah stated “There was nothing linking him to the crime, no DNA, no fibers, no hairs, no matching soil from the bottom of his boots' (Koenig, Ep 1) It shows how hard the detectives looked for physical proof but found nothing. There was also no video footage or any accommodating witnesses. This doesn’t sit right with me because the state relied solely on Jay's statement which shouldnt be the only evidence to lock someone up, especially in a murder case. Going to jail on the charges and consequences for homicide can ruin a possibly innocent person's life, they should be innocent until proven guilty, and the state needs to be more cautious when sentencing people.

I believe some of these occurrences happened before the kidnapping. A truck was stolen in Sullivan, MO, as well as a few syringes and sodium pentobarbital (Nembutal), a drug that causes a person to fall asleep, from the local hospital. A week before the kidnapping, two people drove down 135 Green Lake Drive, St. Louis MO. I believe they were scouting the neighborhood, planning for their future crime. They then drove to the Evans’ house on July 12th, 2012 around 10:30 at night.

When his wife was first reported missing, Watts stated that he was on his way home and didn’t give police his consent to search the home until he returned.
