Ellen contributed to this by starting her television show “The Ellen Degeneres Show”. She does her show to make people laugh and feel good. She is very kind and shows compassion. She does not judge others in any way. And she gives to people in need so she definitely contributes to this. Ellen Degeneres was an ordinary girl with some family issues. She was born on January 26, 1958 in Metairie, Louisiana (“Ellen Degeneres Biography 1”). Her parents are Betty and Elliott Everett Degeneres (“Behind The Scenes With Ellen Degeneres Family”). In 1981, she was emcee at Clyde’s Comedy Club in New Orleans, this is where she performed her monologue “A Phone Call To God” for the first time (Hollander 27). In 1982, she entered a showtime contest for Funniest person in New Orleans with her “A Phone Call To God” monologue (Hollander 29). She was one out of sixteen people in that competition (Hollander 29). She was also sick that day but still went on stage, her performance was taped and she won Funniest Person In America (Hollander 29).
