Joseph Campbell is a famous anthropologist who studied myths, stories, and religions from all over the world. He found a common thread that linked all of them. George Lucas used campbell’s non-fiction book Hero with Thousand Faces to get mos of his ideas to right the movie Star Wars. The Hero’s Journey has Three main stages: The Separation, Initiation, and the return. Luke Skywalker is main character in Star Wars movie. He is a hero based on Campbell’s idea.
According to Campbell’s idea, the first stage in the Hero’s Journey is called the Ordinary World which is the hero’s normal world before the story begins. This is where he lives his life in peace and feels safe and comfortable. In this story, Luke’s Ordinary World is on Tatooine, where

He needs someone to help him. This stage is called Meeting the Mentor. In Star Wars Luke’s mentor was called Obi-Won-Kenobi. He convinced Luke to start using the force and to go with him. he also taught Luke how to use the Light Saber to protect himself. He wanted Luke to be a brave Jedi Knight and to defeat the Empire. In the Hero’s Journey, the hero meets his allies. The allies are going to help get over his obstacles through his journey. Luke’s allies were the two droids R2-D2 and C3-PO. Also there were another two allies to Luke, Han Solo and his co-pilot Chewbacca. They helped Luke, Obi-Won Kenobi, and the droids to escape from Tatooine. They also helped him to fight against his enemies: Darth Vader, Storm Troopers, and the Empire.
Based on Campbell’s idea, The next stage is called Crossing the Threshold. The Threshold of adventure is the point at which the hero leaves the known world to enter the unknown world. In other words, its called the jumping off point. After Luke met Obi-Won Kenobi, they decided to escape from Tatooine; But first they had to pass the Threshold Guardians. On the way to escape, the Storm Troopers tried to arrest them, but Obi-Won used the force to control the Storm Troopers mind. Then they found Han Solo and Chewy and they used their space ship Millennium Falcon, and then, they crossed the first Threshold. On the way, Luke practiced using the Light Saber and the
Unspoken is a book written by Luke Allnutt. The book is based around the story of his dad dying of a terminal illness, brain cancer. The tumor Luke’s dad developed was traced back to an immense amount of radiation he experienced when he was a child. The original round of radiation was helping cure the cancer that caused him to lose his sight, the very thing that cured him as a child will kill him later in his life. Upon the realization that the events you read about or watch an television was happening in Luke’s life affected him greatly.
Frank Luke stood out among other aces, as an independent, solo flyer. By himself, Luke made savage solo attacks at the enemy, even against orders to the contrary. Luke did not do this out of disrespect on the level of professionalism, but due to a sense of patriotism. His personality was a combination of aggression and an honest dislike for discipline. Luke did not wait around for orders, he was there to act, and his ultimately goal was to take down every enemy balloon and enemy
Marlene Xique 10/4/17 M8 The Anti-Hero Anti-hero, anti-hero is a character that lacks characterists of a hero. It is the opposite of a hero but not a villian. The character has characteristics such as being selfish, insecurity, rebellious, and is very independent. The character can aslo be the outsider who does not fit-in, and has problems with authority & with rules, which we learned in class.
For the first time, though, Luke believed in himself instead of his brother’s words. He didn’t know why, but he felt that his decision was better. Luke knew all the risks, but he decided to face it. He wanted to change.
Siddhartha vs. Star Wars Everyone goes on a different journey in the course of their life and everyone's journey has a different outcome. In almost every journey, there is a hero. This person is the one who goes into the world and achieves something great. They normally do this great deed on behalf of some sort of group. There are two main heroes within Star Wars by George Lucas and Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse.
Luke had C3-PO and R2-D2 to lead him, but he did not want to do what they said. Then he did because his aunt and uncle were killed by Imperial stormtroopers.they had things they were reluctant to do, but they did it anyway Both have some very special abilities. Gilgamesh was ⅔ god and ⅓ man. Luke had the force to aid him in his journeys. This made them very good fighters, smarter, and very hard to defeat.
There is a theory that there are only seven different story-lines in the world, but they are all re-used in different ways to make up all of the books and movies and plays we have today. If that theory were true, Luke's life fell into the category of the quiet kid with no glaringly obvious hopes, dreams or aspirations, if that category existed. His life seemed to helplessly revolve around school, and he spent all of his nights slaving over books and copies, studying his subject matter with an outlook of frustration on his world. Luke was nothing special to himself or to anybody else. Of course, if he found the right person, they would be able to find the special and unique aspects of Luke and embrace them, but that somebody just hadn't seemed
Campbell’s hero cycle is a very specific set of steps that shows is there is an epic hero. There are many components involved in this hero cycle including an ordinary world where the hero begins the story, a call to adventure, crossing into the unknown, several tests, the supreme ordeal, the road back, and more. If a story fits Campbell’s hero cycle, then the story must include most, if not all, of the steps in the cycle. I analyzed Purple Hibiscus to test if this novel followed the hero cycle or not. Purple Hibiscus follows the life of Kambili and Jaja, who both live in Enugu, Nigeria.
According to Campbell, an ordinary world setting sets the scene for the soon to be hero and draws attention on the dilemma. His second rule states that the main character either has an overwhelming will power for the adventure or an outside force puts pressure on them to complete certain tasks. Luke lived in an ordinary world on his Uncle’s moisture farm on the planet of Tatooine; he was very sheltered from the outside forces and wars that were going on around him. He never knew his biological parents or his twin sister, as his mother died while giving birth and his father, Anakin Skywalker, was a Jedi Knight for the Jedi Forces, but had slowly been seduced over to the Dark Side. Luke’s father had separate his two children for safety purposes and left Luke on the desert planet of Tatooine while his sister Leia, was place on the planet called Alderaan.
Obi-wan Kenobi is a christ figure according to the criteria on page 119. Obi-wan had a confrontation with the dark side, Anakin tried to lure him, just as Jesus had a confrontation with the devil. This jedi master is also very forgiving as Jesus was, Obi-wan forgave Anakin for turning to the dark side and wanted him to come back to the light side. He had disciples such as Anakin before he turned and Luke Skywalker, like Jesus had disciples and ones that weren’t all equally devoted. When confronting Anakin, Obi-wan sacrifices himself to Anakin and is killed but spiritually resurrects in the wilderness when Luke Skywalker needs him.
Luke stayed up one night and saw Jason on the phone, he had never seen a phone before, he said. As he was walking over to him trying to be as quiet as possible, he heard him talking to someone, and light shining on his face. So he walked up to Jason and listened to his conversation, he was on the phone with a man? He was indeed on the phone with the population police, telling them all about all the third children in the school and their real names. As he was telling the story, Luke was looking at his book he figured it would be the best idea to hit Jason in the back of the head with it, so he did.
King Arthur is one of the best kings that has ruled over Britain, throughout all of history. Arthur ruled with honor, loyalty, and chivalry, which made him a great king. Many lessons that he learned on his journeys helped him to become the person that he is. Arthur’s journey becoming king can be seen in the novel The Sword in the Stone by T.H. White, and is very similar to Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey.
The Hero's Journey is a form of story structure that can be seen in almost all stories. The Hero's Journey is a twelve stage structure that travels through the ordinary world, call to adventure, refusal, meeting with the mentor, crossing the threshold, tests, approach to the inmost cave, ordeal, reward, the road back, resurrection, and ends with the return with the elixir. The Hero's Journey structure seems to fit into any story because of the story arcs that are followed by the heroes of stories. A great example of this is the movie, Toy Story. From the characters to the story arc Toy Story oozes with the structure of the Hero's Journey.
2001: A Space Odyssey as a Hero’s Journey Chloe O’Connor Arthur C. Clarke’s 2001: A Space Odyssey can be considered something of a pseudo-hero’s journey story, with a greater focus on the ultimate reason the hero must make their journey. In this iteration of the hero’s journey, humankind is the hero. The quest they must depart on is evolution to a higher form through Dave Bowman’s individual journey, though he is certainly not the ultimate hero, merely the catalyst for the hero to truly be heroic.
In Episode IV we see Luke trying to learn how to use The Force and we are able to see his struggles of first interacting with The Force. Obi Wan Kenobi gives Luke a helmet with a shield on it to cover his eyes so that his eyes cannot deceive him while he is trying to let The Force takeover his actions and also tell it what to do. Luke is trying to get in touch with the Force by using a lightsaber. There are many different lightsabers shown in Episode IV, we
