The Importance Of Memorial Day

The book, Veterans Day by J.J. Jorgens emphasizes the plight of neglected veterans in the United States of America. It presents a story about Mary Jane Morris, a female private detective. One Halloween night, she received an urgent voice message from her ex-partner, Davy, and she rushed to his office only to find him dead. Altogether, it looked like Davy committed suicide, but Mary Jane's instinct told her that there was more to her ex-partner's death. She felt Davy intentionally called her so that she could be the first person to discover his body; he wanted her to obtain clues about his killer.

A memorial day for me was one Friday night at a dance at Flandreau Indian Boarding School in South Dakota. I went to this Boarding School, not knowing what to expect. My father had gone to this same Boarding School many years before I had. He graduated from there and I was hoping to do the same. Me and my very good friend of mine, we had the crazy idea to go to the school together to escape the realities of our home town.

In conclusion, we should always remember those who fought and are still fighting for us not just one time a year but everyday. We should be thankful for a veteran, because we have freedom to do the things we love where some countries do not get that privilege. We can hunt , fish, play basketball and see our friends and family. Some countries don’t get the freedom that we do.

Patriotism is the dedication; loyalty; devotion; respect; faithful etc. Being a patriot means do whatever it takes to honor your country. In the essay, Veterans Day: Never Forget Their Duty, Mike Christian was a POW, captured by the Vietnam. As stated in the text, he sewed an American flag so him and the other POW’s that were captured could say the pledge of allegiance. He knew he’d get in lots of trouble if he would get caught.

Veterans day is a time once a year that we celebrate on November 11.We celebrate to honer the people in the military for serving this country. On 1919 Woodrow Wilson declared that on November 11 it will always be known as Armistice day. Later on 1954 president Eisenhower change the Armistice day to the day we all know now Veterans day. People around the world celebrate Veterans day to thank the military. Veterans day is now the day we all love and honer the people for serving this

It reinforces my commitment to fight for a nation where every citizen is valued and respected, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. It is a fight for the true ideals that our Military upholds—equality, justice, and freedom for all. My duty as a veteran and an ally is to speak out against injustice and fight for a society that embraces diversity and equality. As someone claiming to love this country and honor our fallen veterans, Mr. Jones's speech is especially troubling. Memorial Day is a solemn occasion that should transcend political divides and unite us as a nation.

Our flag represents the fight they have gone through to bring us where we are today. I know that there are quite a few of veterans, including my grandfather, that think it is very disrespectful not to stand for the flag. There are veterans that stand even though they are wheelchair bound,

We would like to thank all the parents that were able to come out and meet with us during parent-teacher conferences. It was nice meeting with you and discuss your child’s progress. We would like to remind of all parents and students of homework expectations. Math Homework will be assigned on Tuesday. Students should be prepared to discuss and go over the daily assigned problems,, however they will not be required to turn in the homework sheet until Friday.

Whether it is having a moment of silence, or just thanking a veteran, it is important that we do something. They sacrificed a lot for us, and we need to show our appreciation. Memorial day and Veterans day get confused, Memorial day is honoring veterans who have passed away, Veterans day is to honor ALL veterans. They risked or even lost their lives for us and for our country. We need to show them that what they did for us

I have a few people in my family that are veterans. Their service means alot to me. I admire them for their for their bravery and loyalty to their country. They inspire me in many ways such as to be brave even if the situation requires only a small act of bravery, and to speak out against something I know is wrong. To me veterans need to be honored every day for their service.

“... O say does that star spangled banner yet wave, o’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.” Nearly every American can recite the final lines of our National Anthem. However, few take the time to truly contemplate the meaning of these words. When I hear these phrases, I think of the principles on which our country was founded: the right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. But perhaps more important than these rights are the defenders of them: our veterans.

When fights such as in Iraq, we tend to send others to fight our battles for us like our family members or our friends. These people become soldiers, and I believe we should show better appreciation. So, we all show our appreciation to our soldiers who fight, but not many people express, which is why we created Veterans Day on November 11th. Why should we only show it one day? We should show it every day.

I believe that the money we spend on memorials are spent the way in should. There is nothing better to spend money on the remembering people that have done things special in our lives. The money is spent to build memorials that we can visit to remember the brave things that people have done for us. The tomb of the unknown soldier has people who show up to watch the laying of the wreath to remember those who was unable to be identified.

The novel Five Days at Memorial by Sheri Fink gives an inside view of what happened at Memorial Hospital during Hurricane Katrina (2005); a disaster inside of a disaster. The lack of preparedness or ethical decision making is quite disappointing, considering Memorial hospital is located in New Orleans, Louisiana. New Orleans is well below sea level, and experiences frequent hurricanes and flooding. Memorial hospital itself had little to no plan for evacuating patients once the storm hit. Without power, many of the patients, especially those who were ventilator dependent, became at risk of death.

I just want to thank our veterans for everything that they have done. In this essay I am going to write about what I am grateful for, how hard it is to be away from your family, the sacrifices that I think they have made, what they are doing for our country, and some facts. I think this will be a good topic for me because my great grandpa fought in World War 2. I will never forget him. So I hope you like it
