In Night Drive, a short story packed with suspense and mystery, the author does an incredible job of misdirecting the reader. It is not until the very end that the real killer is revealed and keeps the audience guessing throughout the entire gripping story. Each detail is revealed in such a crucial order that reinforces the misdirection. This approach is an excellent way of building suspense. Obviously, the real killer is Bob the gas station attendant, who is really a werewolf! Clues leading to this conclusion are littered like breadcrumbs throughout the story. The first big clue the audience gets is when Madge says she mentioned to Bob that she was driving to Colchester to pick up her husband. Although the relevance of this is not revealed …show more content…
The sense of danger and mystery is heightened again and again as Eunice begins speaking of werewolves and the accursed people. When Eunice says “I've Studied them. I wanted to understand”, important details are revealed here that link to the two murders mentioned earlier in the story. The fact that they had occurred 6months apart and both stopped at the same gas station Bob worked at. When Eunice describes the lifestyle of one of the cursed, the reader begins to associate the details with Bob. Not too prosperous, averting their eyes, never living in one place very long. It is no surprise to the reader when Bob is found in the road injured in a supposed motorcycle accident. Eunice reveals himself to be Mr. Tabor, and that he orchestrated the entire ride to confront Bob, who turns into a werewolf right before Madge speeds off. Mr. Tabor also reveals that he had seen Bob's eyes glowing, like he had six months ago, right before the unknown girl was murdered. The audience is then left wondering what became of the two until Madge's husband tells her Bob had left and Mr. Tabor was at the mill. One can infer that Mr. Tabor was successful in avenging his wife's
As George was left to die, a passer-by saw him lying next to his car, he used the cab radio to call for help. Police were already on their way, the cyclists had already phoned them. A man matching the description of the killer, had been seen in a chip shop just 1 mile away from where George had been killed. He was covered in blood, and had scratches on his face.
The Kansas City Vampire Amy Carney Johnson & Wales University Have you ever wondered, what drives a person to kill innocent people? Every Criminologist asks themselves the same question, along with people who are either related to victims of serial killings, or simply hear about them on the news. I think it is safe to say that the people who might ask that question the most are parents of serial killers, who had never expected their own children to carry out such violent and inhumane acts. In 2001, Marc Vincent Sappington officially became labeled as a serial killer at the age of twenty-one years old. The main reason for his spontaneous killings was not due to his upbringing like most serial killers, but instead was caused by his involvement with drugs.
This well known serial killer has still not been discovered. He took the lives of 5 women in the Whitechapel area. Because of his horrific way of killing, Whitechapel was on edge during this time. Detectives are still trying to make discoveries to this day as to who the actual killer is. The mystery behind the gruesome, cannibalistic murders from Jack the Ripper can be summed up by two suspects: Aaron Kosminski and Severin Klosowski.
The police of the late 1800s were unaccustomed to dealing with serial killers, lacking the forensic technology, and understanding of criminal psychology that we have today. They conducted countless interviews, detained numerous suspects, and even offered a staggering 500-pound reward - the equivalent of one million rand today - in the hopes of catching the killer. Suspects included butchers, slaughterers, surgeons, and physicians, due to the gruesome and precise nature of the mutilations. Due to lack of evidence, the case remains unsolved, leaving us to wonder who the infamous Jack the Ripper truly
First, Vanessa Vermont had bought a new broiler and she wanted an outlet for it in her kitchen. In the morning she called an electrician to come install it in. His name was James Volta. Next, when the police walked in the kitchen, we saw Vanessa lying on the kitchen floor dead with a fatal head wound. Finally, James said that he never went to the house and said that the husband knew how to hook it up.
He had a motive for the murder; they had had a falling out only ten days before her death over letting a prostitute stay with them, which he was not pleased with. In this argument, he was quite violent, smashing a window, and moved out from an eighteen month living arrangements. However, afterwards he was extremely kind to her, giving her money and gifts until her death. The murder was quite obviously a faulty copy of the delicate and precision based murders which were attributed to Jack the Ripper. The corpse was mutilated almost beyond belief, instead of the neat cuts along the neck and abdomen.
The tone of the story is dark and suspenseful. “The time was barely 10 o’clock at night, but chilly
He was quiet and shy. His familial situation was a big contributor to his psychosis. In 1946 he began stalking and abducting victims in Plainfield. The first believed to be Victor Travis, the only man known to be killed by Ed Gein. Next was Evelyn Hartley, 15, her body was never found.
Based on the text above, Bob had also been the one that had grabbed the club from a hiding spot. In addition, Eunice, or Mr. Tabor had only brought his work gloves out of the car, further proving my point that Bob was the killer, since he was the only one with the weapon planning to kill Madge that same night. Using the same piece of evidence stated above, there is more evidence that Bob had been the killer of Mrs. Tabor. It carefully points out that Bob had transformed from a young man with an injured leg, to a wholly animal who was hungry to kill. Later on in the story, it also says “The crouched figure moved toward the blob of light print dress which was Eunice - but which was not eunice.
[He] does not notice the police car… follow him.” This one event, mixed with the stereotype the protagonist has thrown upon him by the cop, seals his fate. All three of these situations foreshadow the ironic and deadly situation that the poor lost man is about to find himself involved. It is these subtle hints to his death that not only add suspense to the plot, but also hold a key importance in conflict development. W.D. Valgardson uses many great elements of fiction to build plot and conflict, as well as teach the lesson of not making snap judgments in his short story Identities.

"The Night Driver" is a short story by Italo Calvino (1967) that emphasize the struggles of human relations and technology in a postmodern era. The narrator, which I 've concluded is X, gets into an agreement with his girlfriend, and she tells him that she 'll go after Z, his rival. To save their relationship, X, drives through the rain at night to see her. As he is driving on the superhighway, he fancies the thought of her driving towards him in the other direction, along with other cars and even X on the superhighway. A character 's inner journey shows how much a character goes through changes –whether good or bad- in the story.
