The Jerry Sandusky Trial

A model citizen of the community, Jerry Sandusky joined the Penn State staff as assistant football coach under Joe Paterno in 1969. He was also a founder of The Second Mile charitable organization to help disadvantaged youth. Sandusky retired from this position in 1999 but still had access to the campus due to him being an emeritus professor (Crandall, 2014). Sandusky was found guilty of 45 counts of child sex abuse in 2012. He sexually abused 10 boys over a 15 year period (Cheppell, 2012).

On November 4, 2011 there was a grand jury report released with testimonies stating that Penn State’s Defensive Coordinator, Jerry Sandusky, had been involved in the sexual assault of at least eight different young juvenile males over a period of approximately 15 years that spanned from 1994 to 2009. There were also allegations that leading officials of Penn State failed to notify law enforcement after learning that some of the incidents had taken place (Viera, M. 2011). In 1977, Jerry Sandusky initially founded a group Foster home for troubled boys known as “The Second Mile.”

Pedophile in Penn State The general argument made by Maia Szalavitz in her work, “Bystander Psychology: Why Some Witnesses to Crime Do Nothing”, is that it is wrong when people view crime, and they do not take action. More specifically, Szalavitz argues that people tend to keep quiet for each other as a conglomerate. She writes, ”Mike Mcqueary… witnessed child rape firsthand in 2002...

There are many influential items that were brought up during the trial that the judge used to impose his sentence. After a jury found him guilty of over 45 separate charges the sentencing process began, the judge made a statement regarding Jerry Sandusky's status in the community and the fact that he was able to become a predator without anyone knowing and was able to keep it covered up for so long (Bohm & Haley, 2014). The judge continued by also making sure that Sandusky knew the sentencing was being based on the facts brought up in court and that they are true beyond a reasonable doubt (Daily News, 2012). He also must consider the fact the way Sandusky not only committed these crimes but the way it occurred, such as how he abused the trust of the victims who at first had trusted him. These crimes that were committed were not committed against strangers and the judge makes a comment that just that fact makes this a whole lot worse than if it were actually being committed against a stranger (Daily News, 2012).

The internal stakeholders in the Sandusky scandal would include Penn State University faculty, Penn State football coaches, and Penn State football players. Crandall, W., Parnell, J. & Spillan, J. (2013), explained how these internal stakeholders were affected. Four members of the faculty were either fired or forced out because of the scandal. Legendary football coach Joe Paterno was one of those who was fired, which shook up the coaching staff. The football players were unfairly penalized by the sanctions that were placed on the team.

In the January 29, The Stanford Daily editorial Stanford, California, it debates the different essential of the principle of morality and identified Brock Turner had applied a use of force in raping an unconscious woman behind the dumpster. Furthermore, the young man attended Stanford University and participated in his college swim team dreamt of partaking in the Olympus. The victim heartfelt statement during the trial is disregarded because he comes from a class of privilege and is a man. Not to mention, Brock Turner’s father wrote a letter to expressing the universalizability to court saying, “my son’s life shouldn’t be ruined over 20 minutes of action (Dreher,Rod).” Therefore, Aaron Persky who is a California judge implemented an ethical decision that contemplated the clarity around both the specific choice and decision then declared a six months sentenced ruling.

In November 2011, Jerry Sandusky was arrested and charged with ”years of sex crimes against young boys,”and also for, “inappropriately” touching children through the second mile program that Penn State had created for the football program (Layden). Also Joe Paterno and other staff

At the time, he was 68-years-old, and his lawyer said that if he was ever to make it through the thirty years in prison, then Jerry would probably never get out even. He was convicted on 45 guilty counts of sexual molestation. On this day, Jerry Sandusky talked for about fifteen minutes, but never apologized to his victims once, even though this is what they were looking for from him. He only smirked at the victims who had the nerve to go up to him. One victim told him he had no morals.

When talking about Bill Cosby and him allegedly raping over 50 women, it is going to take time to get to the bottom of this trial. I feel as though if the women had been rape they should have said something back when it first happened. This has been untried and unpunished fro fifty years; why would anyone take the time out to try and put him in jail all these years later? I feel as though some of those women are lying because if the rape was that serious, they would have spoken up when it first happened. If I were to get raped, I would go to the police right after it happened and I would put the man that did it away fast so he wouldn't hurt anyone else again.

Case Gone Wrong: Anthony vs State of Florida Case No. 5D11-2357 If ever there was a botched case it was this one with inconsistencies on the part of the State being overwhelming. I watched this trial intently and read everything available.

The unfortunate events leading up to Emmett Louis Till’s death and unfair trial were for one reason only- he was black. “The word is some nigra boy from Chicago made ugly remarks and then whistled to Miz Bryant.’ The deputy chuckled. ‘Fool boy forgot where he was, and it’s a fact somebody’s sure to give that boy a talking to.

With all the publicity around the Matthew Shepard case it is hard to avoid stereotypes, even more so because of the controversy of this crime. Laramie was not a well known part of Wyoming but after the Shepard case it is stained with the remembrance of a young gay man being brutally murdered. Newsperson1 says ;"Laramie, Wyoming--often called the 'Gem City of the Plains '-- is now at the eye of the storm"(pg44). A place usually known for its beauty is now and forever known for this repulsive crime. Because Shepard was gay, it brought to light what it may be like living in Wyoming as a gay man or woman.

The reason O.J. was found not guilty of murder and acquitted in criminal court, but found guilty of the tort of harm and ordered to pay damages in the civil court lies in the structure of our legal system, in regards to criminal cases and civil cases. The distinct difference between criminal cases and civil cases provides further explanation regarding the O.J. Simpson case. Criminal cases deal with crimes against society. It is the government, not the victim, who brings action against the charged individual. In criminal cases, the penalties can include a number things including jail time.

Ch. 6: Discuss the main event of the plot for chapter 6. What significance do you think Emmett's and Hiram's interaction will play in future chapters? In Mississippi Trial, 1955, the main event in chapter 6 is the saving Emmett Till’s life, the first time. Hiram was fishing (napping with a fishing pole) at the Tallahatchie River when he heard some yowling.

JonBenet Ramsey who was a young loving beauty queen of Colorado, who’s live was taken way too early. JonBenet was murdered in her home in Boulder Colorado on December 26, 1996 at the age of six. After completing my research, I was able to make a prediction of who I believed murdered the incent child, and it did not take much research to see the mistakes made by the Boulder Police Department. The Boulder Police Department made numerous mistakes in the JonBenet Ramsey case.
