He was an essential leader at the beginning of our country. He was Commander and Chief of the continental forces, a delegate in both the 1st and 2nd Continental Congress and the Constitutional Convention, set up a government under the Constitution, served two terms as our First President, and he also defined much of our political and economic ways. One big issue was his military. Most of the continental army was farmers. Farmers. Some of them had never picked up weapons before. They were also undisciplined and unable to form ranks. You could be as young as 16 to join. They had never been trained to fight before. Another huge problem was supplies. The continental congress lacked power since the US wasn't a country yet. They couldn't collect and send supplies to Washington's army. They had an ammunition shortage. This was an enormous problem. This limited the shots they could take.
