In the short story, The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell, the author is commenting on war in a way in which people will change and be violent to protect themselves and others, even though they understand the pain of being hunted. Rainsford, a boy who washed up on the shore of the forbidden island, was hunted by General Zaroff, a general who got disinterested in hunting animals, so he created a new game in which hunted people instead. Unfortunately, Rainsford’s arrival provided General Zaroff with new prey. Rainsford understood what it was like to be hunted by General Zaroff, but in the end, he still hunted and killed Zaroff for his own, and others to later be trapped on the island’s survival. The book The Most Dangerous Game had a very thrilling conflict. The conflict consisted of the hunting turning into the hunted. Genral Zaroff's crazy game just had to continue though. "We will hunt, you and I" (Connell 225). This quote leads to a lot of tension between both main characters.

Brandon Le Period 6 “The Interlopers” and “The Most Dangerous Game” are two short stories written by completely different authors, Saki and Richard Connell. Even though they were written by different authors, the characters in the stories have some things in common, but at the same time they also have their differences, as well as the plot. A similarity is both characters had deep hate for one another. In “The Interlopers”, Ulrich von Gradwitz hates Georg Znaeym because Georg is hunting on his land, but Georg hates Ulrich because he claims that the land is his.

Such a terrifying experience as that depicted in the short story ¨The Most Dangerous Game¨, Richard Connell, could never be imagined by the usual person. Sanger Rainsford struggles ashore an island known as ship trap island after falling off of his yacht. On the island he meets the sole inhabitants of the island, General Zaroff, the protagonist, Zaroff soon tells Rainsford about his hunting of human beings and how he is going to hunt him. They go on their hunt and the hunt ends with Rainsford killing Zaroff. Connell achieves the major theme, hunt or be hunted, through the use of three literary elements: imagery, suspense, and foreshadowing.

He later hears three gunshots and states, “where there are gunshots there is men, and where there are men there's food.” Rainsford follows where he heard the gunshots, he finds a huge house. He walks in and find two people named Zaroff, and Ivan.

Connell effectively uses a motif to create a unified effect of tension and fear in “The Most Dangerous Game.” According to the text, motif is when a space, object, image or idea recurs throughout a work of literature (Novelguide.com). Throughout the story, Sanger Rainsford and General Zaroff are on an ongoing hunt for each other. The motif of hunting is repeated multiple times from the beginning to the end of the story. For example, Rainsford says, “Hunting is the best sport in the world, I always say” (Connell 2).

One of us will be a meal for the dogs. The other will sleep in this excellent bed. On guard, Rainsford. He never slept in a better bed, Rainsford thought later.” Therefore Rainsford accomplished his goal of surviving while on the island because he trusted in himself and had faith that he could kill

Richard Connell’s “The Most Dangerous Game” is a short story in where two experienced and intelligent hunters both meet and begin a very dangerous game. Throughout the text we come across a dark suspense which ends in one man’s victory and the defeat of an undefeated man. Rainsford, a hunter who is traveling with a friend through a dangerous island known as “Ship-Trap Island” when he suddenly falls into the sea and must swim to that mysterious island for shelter. There he is welcomed by General Zaroff, a hunter and comes to discover that he has lost the thrill for hunting animals and has now created a new “animal” to hunt, humans. Rainsford is forced to play this dangerous game with the General in order to stay alive.

While Rainsford is in the jungle, all of his instincts are racing everywhere in his mind. He enters the jungle with limited supplies and a lot of worry. If Rainsford can escape from Zaroff for three days, then he can leave Ship-Trap island. "I must keep my nerve. I must keep my nerve."

In Richard Connell’s “The Most Dangerous Game,” the setting is a crucial aspect of making the plot believable. For example, the false channel leading to the island is so vital to the plot because it makes the story plausible. General Zaroff intrigues Rainsford by showing him the brilliantly gleaming lights that “‘indicate a channel . . . where there’s none’” (8).

Conflicts are always significant to making a story suspenseful and more interesting. In “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Canell, there are three different primary conflicts. The conflicts person vs. person, person vs. nature, and person vs. self are the three dominant issues in “The Most Dangerous Game”. Person vs. person is probably the most identifiable conflict in this story. Rainsford faces multiple different conflicts with other people; one of those is Zaroff hunting him for three days when he simply just wanted to go home.

Conflict is very important to a story it makes it interesting, some stories have one conflict some have more than one. A great example of multiple conflicts in a story is in “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell man versus man is the most relevant conflict. Man versus nature is the first conflict seen in the story. Man versus himself is a conflict between Rainsford, the story's protagonist, and himself throughout the short story. In “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, there is man versus man, man versus nature and man versus himself.

External conflict is something that some characters from the second unit struggle with. Rainsford, Mathilde, and Georg and Ulrich all experience external conflicts that create an unexpected turn of events. The title “The Most Dangerous Game” is significant to the text because it helps readers to understand that the game will not be easy. It also reflects the truth in this text because Rainsford underestimated his opponent, and this could cause the game to be dangerous.

Man against man, man against nature, man against himself are the three main conflicts that take place. For man against man Rainsford and General Zaroff are fighting each other in the hunting ‘game’. For man against nature Rainsford is fighting the sea once he hears the gunshots and is trying to get out of the water.

"The Most Dangerous Game" statement of The world is made up of two classes -- "the hunters and the huntees" is a great statement that makes sense. The Most Dangerous Game is about a man named Zaroff who lives on an island by himself. The people that come to the island get trained to get ready for the game. The game involves people going through the jungle, hiding from Zaroff as he hunts them. Both the hunters and the huntees have a different view on the conflict.
