For the past few weeks I have been reading this book called The perks of being a wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. The genre of this story is a teen who’s coming of age it talks about a young kid trying to find himself, distant parents, depressive thoughts, drama, use of alcohol and drugs to cope with the stress, not having a adult mentor to look up to, and Issues of sexuality. Some of the major characters are Charlie who is awkwardly and has anger issues. Another one is Aunt Helen she’s generous, gift giving, and who’s also really deeply affected by past trauma. The conflict in the book is about Charlie’s struggle to find himself and to truly find where he belongs. I like how all the problems Charlie is going through are realistic. Also how

There is no table of contents, but there are chapters in the book there is also an epilogue. Also, there is an author's note on how he compiles the book. There are several other maps inside the book, so the reader can understand where McCandless is on his journey.

" The Clique," by Lisi Harrison is based on the life of 4 very wealthy girls and a girl that comes to live in their neighborhood, Claire. Claire is not as wealthy as all the other girls, Massie, Kristen, Dylan and Alicia. Massie 's parent own a guest home and that is where the new girl Claire moves in with her family. In the book Claire tries so hard to be a part of Massie 's clique, but the girls do not really like her.

All of these people offer him food ,shelter,or supplies but he refuses to take them stating that he wants to live off the wilderness. We’re often told to do what we love. But when the things we love hate each other, we have to make compromises. This happened to Herbert Foster in “The Foster Portfolio” by Kurt Vonnegut. The theme of this story is that sometimes you have to make sacrifices to keep what you love and that’s shown throughout the story through Herbert’s wanting to keep both his family and jazz. He knew he couldn’t have both openly, so he hid them from each other and gave up a lot to keep them hidden.
As Charlie begins to question the expectation of society and his own identity, he begins to experience moments of empathy and self-discovery. Charlie has a primary desire to be independent which prepares readers to experience his growth. Due to Charlie and Jasper’s friendship, Charlie begins to challenge the standards and values of society which leads him to have a deep understanding of the way others think and behave. Furthermore, observation of the truth and the adult world is dominant in his journey towards self-discovery. As Charlie attempts to solve the mystery of Laura Wishart’s death, he struggles to deal with the truth and the morals of the people he surrounds himself with.
There are lots of different themes in this novel, but one in particular stood out the most. The theme of coming of age plays a significant role in Perks of being a Wallflower because it shows how Charlie matures throughout the novel in how he starts experimenting with drugs, alcohol and girls, the way he becomes closer with his family and his friends, and how he changes from being an observer to participating.
