was born and raised in Vietnam where guns are not commonly used. It is really rare for a person to own a gun in Vietnam, which was why I was shocked when I moved here because here people allow to carry guns with them. I grew up in culture where guns associate with violence. I just don’t think owning a gun would make you any safer because once you got that gun on your hand, you are more likely to hurt someone. Carrying a gun, give you reason to pull that trigger. According to the article Battleground America: one nation, under a gun by Jill Lepore, it says “ One in three Americans knows someone has been shot” (14). I understand many people owning a gun for self protection however when people are given the right, they take it for granted. They
The survey shows that armed citizen makes others feel agitated. Some could even confuse armed citizens of good faith with those will ill motives. An example is a case where an armed citizen gets into a shopping mall to purchase one or two items but those others in the mall confuse him for a robber and call the police to get him arrested. That guy is likely to be harassed plus all the humiliations because of the gun that he has in possession. Possession of firearms by citizens has also led to accidental shootings.
The issue of concealed carry is one that evokes heated debate upon mention. One one hand, concealed carry allows people to defend themselves in public, should the situation arrive. One the other hand, concealed carry may cause unnessecary shootings, or accidents. Both sides of the debate have valid concerns.
As said by Kelly Sampson, on behalf of the Brady Campaign, allowing concealed carry would force the criminals to get higher damage guns, which would lead to an unnecessary amount of guns. If criminals got higher grade weapons, it would mean more violent crimes and more deaths. Obama once said “There is a gun for roughly every man, woman, and child in America. So how can you, with a straight face, make the argument that more guns will make us safer?” and many people on the pro-gun control side stand by this.
According to Gun Violence Archive (GVA) “as of today there is a total of 27,645 of gun incidents in the United States, of this total, 7,151 are deaths, 14,749 injuries, 319 are children between the ages of 0 to 11 years old, 1,551 are teens between the ages of 12 to 17, 179 of this incidents correspond to a number of mass shootings, 171 are officers that were either killed or injured, 960 were individuals involved with crime, 1,160 due to home invasion, only 849 are use in defense and 1,179 correspond to accidental” (Gun Violence Archive, 1). Due to high numbers on statistics regarding gun violence a lot of people wonder if by giving the right to people to keep arms is keeping them safe or turning them into a menace to society. Some people believe that gun control will not deter crime and it will prevent citizens from protecting themselves. However, some other individuals believe that gun control will reduce gun
Gun Control Are you a person that has, or has ever had possession of a gun? People believe that the United States of America should have gun control. I do not believe that. I believe people should have the right to posses, and bear arms.
The general argument made by Shiha Dalmia in her work, “The Case Against Banning Guns” is that guns should not be banned in the United States. Banning guns is not going to stop people from killing other people. There is no possible way to collect every single gun in the U.S. and even if there was, people have other ways and items to hurt others. When something gets banned, everyone seems like they want to do that thing more. Guns should only be used for appropriate activities like hunting, for example, but there is no one to stop people from harming others.
Some authors feel a sense of pride in having guns a part of our country. “Without guns we would not be the free country we are today.” (Juliano 21). Not only do citizens
In today’s age, gun violence has continued to climb. With an increase in thefts, break in’s, murders school shootings and suicides. We used to think America was so great and peaceful, but not so much anymore. Crime rates have gone up so much and people are starting to realize that most people aren’t safe without protection and that where guns come into the story.
You don’t even have to go through a background check if you buy a gun at a gun show making it extremely easy for people that have committed felonies or have mental illness to buy any type of gun. The number one reason why the United States don’t want to get rid of their gun laws is because of self-defense, yes in a way I do understand how guns can make you feel safer, on the other hand, looking the statistics from 2007 to 2011 only 0.12 percent of victims of all property crimes used a firearm to protect themselves. From 2007 to 2011 only 0.79 percent of victims of violent crimes protected themselves with a gun. Meaning that not even 1 percent of the population even uses the gun for security.
Many people believe that there should be many gun control laws in place, they also believe that it will reduce crime and make everything happy and crime will just disappear. We all know that in reality crime is not just going to miraculously disappear. If there is something that 's illegal and there 's a demand for it, there will be an organized crime. If less gun control laws were in affect, then more citizens would be able to protect themselves. “The second amendment of the US constitution protects individual gun ownership”(procon.org).
Those people who have met the criteria to purchase a gun know how to properly use a gun. If you go through the safety training nothing accidental should go wrong when you are carrying a gun. If you are carrying a gun in the event of a shooting you could stop the shooting. Some people say that there are police officers to stop the shooting but according to procon.org it said that one time it took a police officer to respond to a shooting in 58
"’Make no mistake -- they 're coming for our guns. And we freedom-loving gun lovers are totally defenseless! Other than, you know, the guns’ -Stephen Colbert” (Kurtzman 1). There are as many people who advocate for pro gun laws as the people who are opposed, which is the reason why gun control has become one of the most controversial topics as of right now. America is truly split between those who advocate for gun control and those who are opposed.
Some people might say that we need a gun to protect ourselves in the United States, but there are actually various ways to protect ourselves instead of using a gun according to the article, “How Americans Protect Themselves from Crime.” Transition to Conclusion: before the government legislates about the gun control law, we need to be the spearhead that is awake to this problem deeply and carefully. Restate Thesis: I am convinced that the entire civilian should not own guns to prevent the gun violence, and only government officers must be able to own guns. Review Main Points: we realize that erroneous gun possession contributes to horrible gun accidents.
With tougher gun control laws, there will be a lesser chance of another shooting. Owning a weapon makes a person feel safer. Pew Foundation report found that “79% of male gun owners and 80% of female gun owners said owning a gun made them feel safer and 64% of people living in a home in which someone else owns a gun felt safer.” The truth is owning
Owning guns in the United States is not a novel concept. What seems to be changing is the awareness of the American people of the dangers guns possibly pose; heightened awareness brought on by news breaking stories about large mass shootings have sparked major controversy in regards to the nation’s gun regulations and accessibility. In a Ted Talk given by Dan Gross: Why Gun Violence Can’t be Our New Normal in Vancouver, British Columbia, Gross boldly states his unwillingness to accept gun violence as a societal norm in the US and in his Ted Talk argues that gun violence may be greatly reduced if guns were managed and regulated properly, and by putting in place Brady background checks nationwide to ensure that guns will truly be kept away from
