In Robert Kurson’s book, “Shadow Divers,” he reveals how a group of divers solve one of the last mysteries of World War II. Captain Bill Nagle owns the Seeker which is a charter boat that people can rent to take them to shipwrecks. Nagle is a world renowned deep sea shipwreck diver, because he pushes the limits on how far and where divers can go. Nagle has explored some of the most dangerous shipwrecks such as the Andrea Doria and Texas Tower. He has also retrieved various souvenirs from wrecks such as china dishes and the boat’s bell, but Nagle has massive respect for the history of sunken watercraft. Nagle’s sworn enemy is Steve Bielenda, also a shipwreck diver, who was crowned, “King of the Deep.” The bad blood was developed due to the fact that Bielenda doesn’t respect others and …show more content…
The next day, Nagle called up his friends and scheduled a date to go scope out the wreck. On arrival, Chatterton was the first to splash in and soon realized the wreck was a submarine. After a more careful inspection by him and the other divers, they came to the conclusion that it was a WWII German U-boat. The divers did careful research on all the WWII submarines, but could not find any records of there being a sunken U-boat at those coordinates. After a couple more trips to the wreck, Chatterton was able to retrieve a china plate inscribed with an eagle and swastika, dated 1942. After finding this legitimate evidence, Chatterton told the press of the Seeker’s discovery. No one believe him at first, but soon after seeing pictures and videos of the dive to the submarine, the Seeker’s crew was bombarded with emails and phone calls. Many WWII veterans called claiming they had sunk the mysterious U-boat, but never received credit. Even German historians heard the news and claimed ownership of the sub, prohibiting Chatterton to go inside
The movie Jaws there’s a monologue by a character named Quint who’s described as a survivor the USS. The monologue explains what he went through after the sinking in the shark-infested waters. However, there were also historical inaccuracies in the monologue such as the date of the sinking and a number of men who were on board the ship. There was also another film named USS Indianapolis: The Legacy which talks about the ship through the point of view of the survivors. In Indianapolis, Indiana a monument dedicated to the USS, named the USS Indianapolis National Memorial, is located on the Canal Walk with crewmembers names listed on the monument.
Mooring buoys mark its various dive sites. There is also an unmanned reef light nearby. Benwood Wreck This ship sank in 1942, a casualty of World War II. In 1959, a protection zone was designated to protect the remains from further vandalism.
The Titanic, most definitely man’s greatest accomplishment, is made in Belfast, Ireland, where it is then set off into the open ocean, and set for Southampton, England. From there, on April 11, 1912, 2:00 p.m., the Titanic sets sail for New York. All seems well, and it looks for the first time, that man has built the “unsinkable ship.” However, the hopes, lives, ship and all are cut down by an iceberg and now rest at the bottom of the Atlantic. This horrendous fact was shown in both the book and the movie, “A Night to Remember,” along with many other facts and stories.
David Bushnell is in a whale boat, down close to the turle giving some last important directions to Ezra Lee who is piloting the vessel. Then the sub is sealed and ezra is tugged along by the whale boats until they could see the lights of the british fleet. The turtle began to dive and hastily made his way towards the ships, but in his haste the sub shot up to the surface. He quickly goes under again hoping he hasnt been spotted. He then gave up on his mission and began to make his way for new
The reason I believe in this theory and not another one is because this is the most reasonable to me . In the article “ Sinking Theories” where I got my information from. In paragraph 4 tilted “ Theory 4: Three Sisters “ it says . ” Captain Cooper of the Anderson ( the Anderson is a ship that was there when the Edmund sank the people on the ship didn 't see what happened but was close by.) provides “fuel for this theory , as he relates in Marshall’s shipwreck on Lake Superior a little bit before 7:00pm .
Robert Ballard was known for his work in underwater archeology and discovery of shipwrecks. He joined the army in 1965 and requested to fulfill his obligation in the navy. His request to aiding in the navy allowed Ballard to design small, unmanned submersibles that could be tethered and controlled from a surface ship. Ballard’s works that were contributed in aiding the navy also contributed in searching for his first shipwreck, the Titanic. Robert Ballard was able to contribute his discoveries to America by the exploration of undersea technology, his relationship with the navy in cooperating with Ballard’s explorations, and the use of deep-diving submarines to explore the surface of the ocean and encounter abandoned or destroyed ships of past
Laurie Colwin (1944-1992) was born in Manhattan, New York. She was a prolific writer and her very first works were published in the New Yorker. Her first short story collection was published in 1974. In May 1915, a German U-boat sunk the British passenger ship Lusitania off the coast of Ireland. With more than 1,900 people aboard, killing at least 1,100 people including more than 120 Americans. Although the ship may have been carrying military equipment along with the civilians, the Americans weren’t warned before the sinking. Others understood that Germany previously had unambiguously alerted all neutral passengers of Atlantic vessels to the potential for submarine attacks on British ships and that Germany considered the Lusitania a British, therefore an “enemy ship.” The United States eventually protested the action, and Germany apologized and pledged to end unrestricted submarine warfare.

1. Eighner’s attention to language in the first five paragraphs causes the reader to view dumpster diving differently than they normally would. By providing the reader with his own personal views of how he sees a dumpster diver, and the terms he prefers to use when referring to them, Eighner inserts a more positive perspective over dumpster diving. For example, Eighner “I live from the refuse of others, I am a scavenger” (Eighner 108). Eighner indirectly dismisses the typical negative ideas about dumpster diving and instead puts it in a more positive light.
