The Trail Of Tears Removal Act

The cherokee (chair-uh-kee) tribe was a tribe located in the southeastern part of the United States in states like Georgia, North and South Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Descendants now mostly live in Oklahoma. Many of the descendants now live in Oklahoma because of the Trail of tears which was the removal of Native americans by forcing them to Indian reservation, and if the tribes didn’t go by will the american army would force them.

Andrew Jackson really liked power, some would say he is obsessed with it. Andrew Jackson had an idea called the Indian Removal Act and the Trail of Tears and what it did was that it kicked out the indians from west of the Mississippi. The indians felt very strongly about protecting their land because if you you think about it, what if you had just 1 day to pack up all of the things in your house and had to leave forever. Plus what if on that journey to find a new home, along the way you lost some people like family that you love and care about. That is what the indians had to go through and that changed their lives forever.

The Trail of Tears is undoubtedly one of the most inhumane events in U.S history. It all started with the Indian removal act enforced by President Andrew Jackson. The U.S military were ordered to forcefully evict many innocent people and have them walk extremely long distances during excruciating weather. Many Indians dropped dead in the midst of the trail causing grief for the Indians hence, its name Trail of Tears. The Trail of Tears was an abomination for the U.S due to the fact that this act was unconstitutional,caused mass genocide, and the land had originally belonged to the natives.

Would you remove an abundance of Indians from their homes for money? That is what the Indian Removal Act did. Hundreds of Native Americans were taken from their homes. Andrew Jackson and John Ross had a debate on if they should get rid of the Indian Removal Act or if they should keep it. The Indian Removal Act was a step in the right direction.

From a historical point of view cultural assimilation happens when a person or a group loses its native culture to the dominant group in their society. On the other hand, cultural pluralism takes place when smaller group within a larger society are able to maintain their culture and belief in which are accepted in the wider society. The process of assimilation is slow and gradual because it take some time to for a person or groups to fully make an adjustment into their new society. In history, the Indian Removal Act of 1830 was passed by Congress under the administration of President Andrew Jackson. The law states that the president can authorize to negotiate with southern Native American tribes for their removal to federal territory west

The Trail of Tears was named so because of its devastating effects to the Cherokee nation. They were removed for one main reason, so their land could be used by the white men. Nobody had the right to take away their land. The land had been theirs since before the Europeans came and now they were being forcibly removed from it. On top of that, soldiers forced them to travel in the winter, causing thousands of Native Americans to die.

The Trail of Tears was a massive transport of thousands of Native Americans across America. After the Indian removal act was issued in 1830 by president Andrew Jackson, the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Muscogee, and Seminole tribes were taken from their homelands and transported through territories in what many have called a death march. The government, on behalf of the new settlers ' cotton picking businesses, forced the travel of one hundred thousand Native Americans across the Mississippi River to a specially designated Indian territory for only the fear and close-mindedness of their people. The Native Americans were discriminated against by not only their new government, but also the people of their country and forced to undertake one of the most difficult journeys of their lives.

Trail of Tear In the 19th century, the U.S. decides to expand it territories into the homelands of the Cherokee, Creek, Choctaw, Chickasaw, and Seminole (also known as the “Five Civilized Tribes”). Destroying the homes of the natives all for growing cotton. Such an unlawful act for a selfish reason. Starting with Andrew Jackson and the Indian removal act leading to tension rising between the tribes. Contributing to the to the split of the cherokees at pea ridge and the battle of Wilson's creek.

The trail of Tears was an unethical decision implemented by the government of the United State. The President Jackson used force to push the native American out of their lands. According to www.ushistory.gov, << Over 20,000 Cherokees were forced to march westward along the Trail of Tears. About a quarter of them died along the way>>.

This showed that the United States would state firm in their endeavor to not only Christianize the North American continent but remain in control of the lands they had already acquired with

Trail of Tears The name of the Trail of Tears came from a Cherokee phrase that meant “the place where they cried.” In my opinion it was not correct from the European colonists to evict all the indigenous Americans, they had been living there for thousand of years and only they had right to live there. The people were treated with disrespect, and one of the only reasons this happened was because the government decided that land, gold and other finite resources were more important than lives of Indians.

When the Europeans began colonizing the New World, they had a problematic relationship with the Native Americans. The Europeans sought to control a land that the Natives inhabited all their lives. They came and decided to take whatever they wanted regardless of how it affected the Native Americans. They legislated several laws, such as the Indian Removal Act, to establish their authority. The Indian Removal Act had a negative impact on the Native Americans because they were driven away from their ancestral homes, forced to adopt a different lifestyle, and their journey westwards caused the deaths of many Native Americans.

Nobody's lives would be the same after losing the ones they had lost during the long journey. The Indian Removal Act and the Trail of Tears were terrible events for the Native American people to live through. They lost lives, supplies, homes, and family memories.

The Genocide: Trail of Tears/ The Indian removal act During the 1830s the united states congress and president Andrew Jackson created and passed the “Indian removal act”. Which allowed Jackson to forcibly remove the Indians from their native lands in the southeastern states, such as Florida and Mississippi, and send them to specific “Indian reservations” across the Mississippi river, so the whites could take over their land. From 1830-1839 the five civilized tribes (The Cherokee, Choctaw, Seminole, and Chickasaw) were forced, sometimes by gun point, to march about 1,000 miles to what is present day Oklahoma.
