Tricky Ambition Ambition can be a very tricky thing. Too much ambition can sometimes be bad. However if someone uses ambition in the correct way, it can be a very good thing. In the book Mississippi Trial, 1955, Hiram, the main character, goes through phases where he has the right amount of ambition and times when he has too much. When Hiram decided to get to the bottom of what happened to Emmett Till that was the correct amount of ambition and determination. But, when Hiram kept questioning his father about why he didn’t want him going to Greenwood, Mississippi to see his grandfather, that was the wrong way to use his ambition. This then put him and his father at odds and would ultimately end up proving to be dangerous to himself. All in all there were times when Hiram used ambition the right way but certainly times when he used it in …show more content…
Hiram was determined to get to the bottom of what happened to Emmett. He also wanted to find out who was the third person in the car helping to kidnap Emmett. In the end, Hiram found out that it was his grandfather who helped Roy Bryant and J.W. Milam. If it weren’t for Hiram’s curiosity and ambitious nature, he probably never would have learned this information about his grandfather. He would have still been able to look at him without thinking of him as a kidnapper. “‘You were there. That night, you were there.’...‘The boy was alive when I left; they promised they were done with him when they brought me home’ And then I knew. Knew what I didn’t want to know.”(Crowe 214). Hiram had finally learned the truth. His ambition is what brought him to this point. The point where everything he had ever known about his grandpa was put into question. So yes, Hiram did find out who the third person in the car was, but did he really want to

The 2 men J.W. Milam and Roy Bryant confessed to the killing of Emmett, but they were not found guilty. They did not have no regret of what they did. Emmett Till was tortured and murdered in hate of blacks in the south. They gouged out his eye and shot him and the head beat him and threw his body tied to the cotton-gin fan
Emmett Till, a young black boy of Mississippi, was murdered by Roy Bryant and John W. Milam in August of 1955. The notorious case drew in a crowd of more than a thousand people, all attentive to the decision on whether or not to indict the accused men. However, by the ruling of an all-white-man jury, Bryant and Milam were acquitted on all charges. This decision sparked a national outcry from the African American population, and ultimately fueled the flames to Black Civil Rights in the South. Despite racial barriers established in America, Bryant, Milam, and the town of Sumner, Mississippi recognized the extinguished life of a human being, not just a negro boy, evidenced through the website famous murder trials by Douglas O. Linder.
This essay will be about two injustices the Scottsboro trial and Tom Robinson’s trial. A few similarities are that they were treated unfairly and they were all accused of a repulsive crime, raping a white woman. In the Scottsboro trial though, two women were supposedly raped. Both trials happened in the same time period, while also noting that the women in both trials came from poor backgrounds. Atticus gave his all to his case while the nine young men’s lawyer also tried his best.
Topic: Scottsboro Trials Sources: Remembering Scottsboro: The legacy of an infamous trial, The Trials of the Scottsboro boys, and Scottsboro and its legacy: The cases that challenged american legal and social justice. (Supported Statement 2)
One way ambition is presented in a negative way is by Lady Macbeth. Lady Macbeth is one of the most ambitious character who wants to achieve power and can do anything to achieve it. Just after she received the letter from Macbeth she is obsessed with power. Lady Macbeth is really ambitious to become the queen as she convinces Macbeth to kill the King she does this by questioning Macbeth on his
Throughout the years, ambition has been essential for individuals since it helps us set our objectives. By having an ambition, they are setting up a goal. In addition, the feeling of success that an individual receives is great once the goal is achieved. Also having an ambition, whether it’s a small or large one, indicates that you have a value in life and that you want to become better. Ambition is important for some people because it helps us set our goals.

State vs. Mayfield Trial On December 27th, 1989, State Police Officer Edward Mayfield pulled over Donna Nugent to a shady area where he strangled her and threw her body off of a bridge. We don’t know why he pulled her over. He then proceeded to strangle her with a rope. I believe State Police Officer Edward Mayfield is guilty of murder in the first degree because he had and hid the murder weapon, pulling over specifically blonde women, and he changed the activity log.
The ambition for satisfaction can consume a person’s entire existence to themselves and others. Although having ambition is considered a good thing, it can be taken too far and hurt others around us. Ambition can get in the way of how people perceive others feelings and might not see how it affects others like how in The Great Gatsby, Gatsby's ambition for Daisy was so strong that he didn’t stop to think about how the situation was affecting her. Gatsby went and told Tom that Daisy never loved him, and that hurt Daisy because she did love Tom at one point.
How the Ambitions of Macbeth and Commodus Leads to their Inevitable Downfalls Ambition, “a strong desire to do or to achieve something, typically requiring determination and hard work” (Google). The characters of Macbeth and Commodus within William Shakespeare’s play Macbeth and Ridley Scott’s movie Gladiator, both display ambition in its worst form. Macbeth and Commodus shared a very similar route to power after being swallowed by ambition; both characters gained their seat on the throne through deception, family, and murder. Firstly, One tool used by both characters was their different ways of deceiving their peers to get what they want. Macbeth’s first act of deception was much like Commodus’; they both killed the King of their respective countries to try and take the crown for themselves.
In other words, ambition is not only aspirations that will help people strive to their successes, but it can also fuel a dangerous desire that people will manipulate and use toward ruthless acts. The desire to achieve has proven
Not knowing the potential risks to ambition can cause a completely different outlook on your future, especially if you make the wrong decisions that put you on a dark path. In the book, “Things Fall Apart” by Chinua Achebe, the main character, Okonkwo, witnesses many failures from his father as he was growing up. His father was in deep debt and was extremely lazy. Okonkwo saw this then grew ambitious to become better than his father ever was. He became a family provider, a noble warrior, and a clansman.
Everyone is familiar with ambition. Without it, no one would get anywhere in life. However, there is such a thing as negative ambition. Ambitions for the wrong things - white ethnostates, genocide, slavery, oppression, etc. - or using terrible methods to achieve goals - murder, tyranny, torture - will bring disaster. In Shakespeare’s famous tragedy Macbeth, Macbeth uses despicable methods to achieve his dream of being King of Scotland.
This quote tells that he is ambition because it shows how he is getting revenge back for his dad and it is his goal for the man to die for killing his father. He is achieving his goal for his dad and it seems like he is very confident about it in the way he said “prepare to die” which mean he has been meaning to do it for a
