Some people may think that overcoming the fear of spiders is the most challenging thing that someone can do. Fearing spiders is one of the mental challenges that anyone can overcome, just like Odysseus. Many people that fear spiders more than others tend to believe that they cannot get rid of the fear. No matter how brave Odysseus looked or acted in the story, he must have had a hint of fear in each challenge. The fear of spiders and the challenges in The Odyssey has some similar connections with each other.

The way that Homer establishes Odysseus as an hero is by adding figurative language like metaphors,similes and some types of irony. This is his way to get you hooked to his story and make it more exciting to you. In the “Book 12” of The Odyssey, Odysseus

The Odyssey tells the exciting tale of Odysseus and his travels back home after the Trojan War. Odysseus and his men journey back home and on the way they meet a few monsters and manage to anger Poseidon. In the story, Odysseus demonstrates his leadership skills by leading his men through all their struggles. He was very clever, he developed plans that saved most of his crew and eventually got him home. When he arrived home, he was reunited with his son.

Odysseus point of view he thinks the sirens are just people trying to kill men. In book 12, he tells his men to put beeswax in there ears so they can 't try to make then kill the whole crew. Odysseus was the only one who didn 't put beeswax in his ear because, he wanted to hear the sirens amazing song. So as they row closer he sirens appear and start to sing. In Greek mythology there are over a thousand stories about heroes and their adventures against nature and mystical and dangerous creatures. But there are always a few traits in the heroes that are repeated in all of these stories. And the Odyssey is not different. Through out the Odyssey the main character, Odysseus, shows a number of heroic qualities. Some of those qualities he shows is his kindness for his men, and bravery when facing all of the hardships in the Odyssey.

In the Odyssey, Odysseus must persevere through many challenges and hardships. During his journey he displays the almost godlike qualities of the typical hero in a Greek myth, and the regular qualities of a human man. Throughout the entire story Odysseus possesses a very human goal: to return home and see his wife again. He constantly displays emotion for his wife during his travels. It is a tale about the adventures of Odysseus traveling through the sea and numerous islands. He meets challenging obstacles that consequently affect the outcome of the story. Throughout Homer’s The Odyssey, characters develop opinions on others based on how they perceive them. As well as viewing others in certain ways, these characters perceive themselves in certain ways. Based on how characters view themselves and are viewed by others, the characters make certain decisions to drive the story of The Odyssey forward.

Odysseus in the book has many different features in his personality, but most important he is a hero. This character shows the value of patience in many different ways. The value of patience is a way of life, it is the action of waiting without getting upset or frustrated. This action is important because Odysseus portrays it throughout the whole story.

What it means to be powerful is to be able to control people, or beat people with your physical and mental strength. In book 9 of the Odyssey, Odysseus slays a giant cyclops that is far bigger and stronger than him. Although the Cyclops is stronger than him, Odysseus can use his brain to defeat the Cyclops. Odysseus gets the Cyclops drunk and then attacks.

In The Odyssey, societal values and ideas about what a hero should be are quite different from the modern ideas, and Odysseus is the hero shaped to a near perfect representation of those ancient ways from centuries before the common era. In Book 12 of The Odyssey, Circe warns Odysseus of the Sirens he will inevitably come across when he continues his journey. She tells him to plug his men’s ears with beeswax, but also includes what to do in case Odysseus wants to listen to the Sirens’ beautiful singing. Odysseus warns his men about the Sirens; nobody questions his commands, and they continue their journey, Sirens awaiting. In The Odyssey, Odysseus states, “Going forward I carried wax along the line, and laid it thick on their ears.

Throughout the book Odysseus would undergo many challenges as well as life threatening situations in order to achieve his quest. He is a man who was both loved and hated by the god of Mt. Olympus. While others used their powers in his favor, some used them to hinder and if possible stop him from going home. For example due to his both his arrogance and conceitedness, the god Poseidon would cause for a rough voyage that would push him further from Ithaca and at one point cause a shipwreck that drowns his crew. One other notable trial of his journey was the encounter with the sirens.

"A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way". During the whole story Odysseus was showing to get back to Ithaca. Odysseus saves his men many times in different places. For example, he saved his men on the island of the Lotus Eaters and sacrificed himself when he listened to the Sirens. Odysseus was a strong leader and did everything he could to help his crew because in the Lotus Eaters he brought his men back and he protected his men from the Sirens.

The Odyssey by Homer is a book that involves the Journey of Odysseus and his men and the Obstacles they come across. The Odyssey portrays many themes including vengeance, hospitality, courage, bravery and more. Odysseus experiences some good and bad during his journey. He comes across people who help him, but also comes across creatures who hold him back. Odysseus is an Epic hero because of his quick thinking skills, bravery, and confidence for himself and his men.
