There are many reasons a once great man may fall. Hubris leads Macbeth into taking far too courageous actions, his lack of questioning makes him blind, and his own actions lay the blame of the Murder solely on his shoulders. While most can agree Lady Macbeth had her part in persuading him, one cannot blame her for the act simply because she wanted it to happen. Macbeth is the murderer, his wife didn't make one. Macbeth is firstly at fault due to his own hubris. From the start of the play we hear praise for Macbeth from the captain when he addresses Duncan, “For brave Macbeth—well he deserves that name—Disdaining fortune, with his brandished steel,Which smoked with bloody execution,Like valor’s minion carved out his passage” (1.2.16-19), this sort of praise was likely commonplace after the battle, and likely was heard by macbeth himself, and being the proud man he was may have led him to feel deserving of greater power and authority. Another way his hubris is to blame is for being convinced by his wife's scorning oh his manhood should he not kill duncan “When you durst do it, then you were a man; And to be more than what …show more content…
He chose to kill Duncan when speaking to his wife “I am settled, and bend up Each corporal agent to this terrible feat. Away, and mock the time with fairest show. False face must hide what the false heart doth know.” (1.7.79-82) He has decided not only to kill his king, but to pretend that he is innocent, and take his throne, It is his decision, not Lady Macbeth’s. Even Macbeth himself accepts responsibility for the act, “I’ll go no more: I am afraid to think what I have done; Look on't again I dare not.” (2.2.51-53) Despite the fact that he is convinced he is taking the right course of action, directly following the act he regrets it. He does not blame Lady Macbeth for he knows he is to blame, and she is forced metaphorically clean up his mess by making a mess of the
Is Lady Macbeth more responsible than Macbeth for the murder of King Duncan? Who the burden of the blame for King Duncan’s death should fall upon is a highly contentious matter. Should Macbeth, the man who physically committed the murder be blamed? Or, should Lady Macbeth be blame?
In Shakespeare’s Macbeth, several characters have a certain degree of responsibility for the assassination of King Duncan and the murders that follow. Macbeth, being a soldier, knows how to kill and is familiar with this act. This may be damning evidence that Macbeth is completely responsible for the murders he commits throughout the play. However, while Macbeth may be thought of as ultimately responsible for his actions, there are certain steps taken by other characters, such as the witches, Lady Macbeth, King Duncan’s guards, and even King Duncan himself, that push Macbeth to his eventual downfall.
Macbeth in his soliloquy thinks of many different reasons as to why he should not murder his king. For example as his host, he should “against his murderer shut the door” (Act I, Scene VII, Line XIV). Although he is persuaded by his wife through her threatening manhood. He suffers through this stage of the play as he does not want to come across as a coward towards his wife . He is fairly ambitious and is someone who wants to please his wife.
So although Macbeth was killed by rebels, Lady Macbeth has ultimate responsibility for his death. Lady Macbeth is responsible for killing her husband because she pressured him into the killing of others, which ended up getting him killed. As soon as Lady Macbeth found out she was becoming wife to the Thane of Cawdor, all she wanted was more power. Lady Macbeth applied pressure on Macbeth In Act 1 Scene 7 Lines 38-41 by saying, “. .
Macbeth was a good and loyal warrior for king Duncan but after he heard the witches predictions, it changed the person inside him. This play is from one of the best writer of all time William Shakespeare. The play is “The Tragedy of Macbeth". It's a summary about how Macbeth became king in the eleventh century and after he took the throne.
Ambition and violence are a recurring theme throughout the entirety of the play. Violence is shown throughout through various things. This likely because of the time period that Macbeth is set in where being a warrior made you honored by many people. In the story Macbeth is a warrior revered throughout Scotland. Even though he has a reputation like his Macbeth has a major flaw which ultimately leads to his downfall at the end of the play.
Macbeth shows that he is willing to kill King Duncan because he is interested in the witches prophecy, after they tell him that he will become ‘Thane of Cawdor’ and then the King.
He now perceives that in order to become king he has to step over some people, kill them. For all intents and purposes, how can he become king if Duncan is already running the position? Executing Duncan was the only option in order for him to become king, at least to his regards. Despite his bad ambition, Macbeth is not happy about committing murder, not to the slightest. It's like if he'd close his eyes and reopened them (hoping to see things differently)
At the end of the play, Macbeth’s ambition caused him to lose Lady Macbeth to suicide and to no longer have moral sense. Ambition led to Macbeth’s downfall because Lady Macbeth and the witches caused him to make brainless decisions that caused his collapse. Macbeth’s ambition led to his downfall because of Lady Macbeth's ambition. Lady Macbeth had
Macbeth shows his downfall when the English army comes to his castle and an English soldier starts to call him a “tyrant”(5.2.12). This demonstrates Macbeth's downfall because everyone used to think that he was a good strong leader and that he could do anything. When everyone realized that it was Macbeth who killed king Duncan and the others, they were disappointed in him. His downfall ended up leading to his punishment. In the play everyone finds out that that Macbeth killed Duncan and the others, Macduff brings an army to attack Macbeth at his castle.
Macbeth chose to listen and accept the prophecy as truth even though he had no proof. Although the witches influence Macbeth they did not suggest to Macbeth to kill the king, he got that idea from his selfish thoughts. After the witches visit Macbeth he goes to his wife about his thoughts of killing the king. Lady Macbeth encourages murder because that’s the only way she thinks Macbeth can become king.
Is Lady Macbeth to blame for the murder of King Duncan? King Duncan was killed because of the Macbeths thirst for power. Lady Macbeth is more to blame for King Duncan’s death rather than Macbeth himself. She would use her body and her influence she had on him to help direct his decisions to the way she wanted things.
It is clear that it was Macbeth’s fault for his downfall because of he, himself chose the wrong path. He had the choice of avoiding people but, he did not even after feeling guilty of what he did. Macbeth’s downfall in life cannot be blamed on anyone else, but
As the play develops, Macbeth kills multiple more people. The excessive murders feel as though he kills these people out of paranoia and guilt. It is true that paranoia does play a main part in these other murders, but guilt is not the other driving force – greed is. He wants there to be absolutely not chance of somebody finding out what he did and stripping him of the tile of king and he does not want somebody else to be able to overthrow him. Macbeth kills a lot of people, but apparently none of the right people, because in the end he ends up being murdered.
Macbeth is also a power hungry man who would do just about anything to achieve his goal of becoming King. When Macbeth first hears the prophecies from the three witches he instantly became invested with the journey to become king. Similar to Lady Macbeth, nothing was going to come between him and his potential power, “My thought, whose murder yet is but fantastical, shakes so my single state of man. That function is smother'd in surmise, and nothing is but what is not” (1.3.52-55). This quote exemplifies how Macbeth’s initial solution to becoming king was murder.
