My primary audience are professors, students who is interested in linguistic. It has become a challenge for me to write about June Jordan essay of Black English. I have found myself taking more risks and challenging my prior writing style.

The piece of writing I am using for my rhetorical analysis is Mother Tongue by the famous author Amy Tan. Amy Tan is the author of such books as The Joy Luck Club. Mother Tongue was originally published in 1990 by the Sandra Dijsktra Literary Agency. Then was reprinted in Everything is an Argument with readings, by Lunsford, Ruszkiewicz, and Walters. The text book was published by Bedford/ St. Martin’s in 2013.

This paper was probably one of the hardest paper I had to write just because I felt like I was on my own. I was scared at first but i felt like this helped me learn how to properly look and analyze a speech or a writing in general. One way this helped was I highlighted what I thought was a rhetorical device and I had to properly analyze it and see what he/ she is trying to accomplish through his or her writing.

Similarly, Equality revolutionizes his sphere of philosophy. As he broadens his once narrow scope of the world and allows his imagination to wander, he realizes that the brotherhood is not as divine as it is praised to be. What makes a piece of writing effective? A piece of writing includes many things that make it effective, such as the style that appeals to the reader and rhetorical devices used in the writing that make it much more interesting. In this piece of writing titled “ How to tame a wild tongue “ includes many of these things. Even starting with the title it makes me curious as to what the piece will be about. There are two devices Anzaldua uses effectively in her essay which are anecdotes and parallel structure.

The use of voice in the essay is presented by the narrator while describing emotions and feelings. Through this, the narrator makes the readers connect more with her experience with her mother. The technique is used effectively by the author because it added a lot more understanding to the readers knowledge of the essay. Another literary technique used is mood. Mood is an element which touches certain feeling or vibes in readers

In chapter 8, Graff talks about the strategies to connect each part of essay to create a complete expression. He emphasizes that connecting between sentences and sentences or phrases and phrases is important because it helps the readers clearly and obviously understand the writer’s thinking process, then obtain the writer’s purpose of writing. To create the connection, Graff mentions four strategies, containing to use transition word, to use pointing words, to repeat key team and phrase, and to repeat writer’s ideas in different methods. Chapter 9 is about properly transform formal and unformal writing style in the academic writing. Graff first confirms the importance in using formal language, vocabulary in academic writing.

Chapter 10: In chapter 10 of Things Fall Apart, the author had purpose in all text. The text supported the author’s purpose of being a female is difficult. Females had to deal with having their thoughts or opinions not important. “There were many women, but they looked on from the fringe like outsiders” (Achebe 87).

Throughout this essay I will be explaining the gender roles, comparing them and how they affect the Umuofian society. In the Umuofian society, Women and men have different roles and expectations to live up to, men were believed to be superior and that women were inferior. One of the tasks that women were burdened with was dinner. They were expected to prepare dinner for their family in the Umuofia tradition.

Things Fall Apart, relates perfectly to education for many reasons. If you have never been exposed to this culture before, then this is a book for you.

Each essay I wrote took me several time to write, several drafts which show that I have improve every time I do the drafts to write a perfect masterpiece. I learned a lot of skills and techniques this quarter, which has helped me to improve and progress my writing skills for the future. I will remember the skills, techniques, and tips that professor gave us in this English class for my higher education. For example, all the time that I went to visit professor Sapozhnikov office hours to receive help on my out-of -class essays has helped me to improve, grow, and progress in my writing skills as a writer. Some of the significant changes I have made as I was progressing and growing were to develop a strong thesis to help support my claims as I write my essays, such as facts, observations, illustration, and examples.

In contrast to that, various examples have legitimized the use of first-person pronouns in English academic writing. Also, second person pronouns remarkably demonstrate the presence of informality in any given piece of academic writing. The second person pronouns create much of a conversation than the unintended academic writing (Biber et al. 32).this is ideally because it evokes interactional skills. In some cases, writers may use the second person pronoun with a semantic reference that is wider, concerning people in general.
