Thomas Jefferson was an American statesmen and one of our founding fathers. He was born on April 13, 1743 in Shadwell, Virginia. He had been the President for eight years from 1801 to 1809 and was our third U.S. President. Thomas Jefferson was a President that was well known for what he did over time and was truly a remarkable man with a vision for America. He was one of the most influential leaders America had in its‘ time.“Who, really, was Jefferson? The French and British war was going on during Jefferson’s second term the United States was trying to stay out of it. According to history Jefferson wanted to remain an interior America. He was a big speaker of liberty ,but he owned slaves. During that time he had no real choice to own slaves and yet it is saoid he treated them more fairly then most slaves could have imagined. Jefferson was a great leader not because he came from rich family or becausse he had artistic taste. He was great because he was never trying to be great. All he did as a President was follow what he thought one should do. When a president enters office, he often comes with a long list of demands and changes he plans on making for the nation that the man before him did not accomplish. The changes each president has made assisted the forever-growing nation, in hope of benefiting all of the population living within it. He believed violence and war was unjustifiable, foreign alliances should be avoided, and was a advocate that the constitution should be strictly interpreted. His beliefs and desire to make America a powerful nation contradicted each other during the Tripolitan war, the Louisiana Purchase, and the Embargo Act.
