This daring film for its 50’s time period was written by Theodor Geisel, famously known as Dr. Seuss. Seuss' writing in his books tends to be surreal, somewhat nonsensical, and is almost always verbally focused on crazy word play, including lots of neologisms and hilariously twisted rhymes, which is translated into this film. The theme of 5,000 Fingers is an elaboration from Seuss of a conception of children as “thwarted people”, and that they struggle to find themselves in the world dominated by adult authorities. The 1975 Pulitzer Prize winning author Annie Dillard discovered a life changing theory while trying to evade the frenzied human world. The theory that introduces a life is lesson everyone needs to live a full and satisfying life. By employing emotional charged verbiage and a juxtaposing of humans versus nature in Living Like a Weasel, Dillard theorizes that life should be lived with the same determination and persistence of a weasel. When proposing a very forward theory, Dillard must use some bold choices to prove her ideals of life. “Grasp”and “seize” are desperate words used in situations where the author needed to emotionally move the audience (Dillard 164-167).

Family, friends, and possessions pressure individuals through the imposition of values that contribute to identity; we are told that we obtain our qualities simply by inheritance and association. The environment one chooses to surround themselves reflects similar learned behaviors and thought processes. Deviating from the norm is often contemptible, but natural, according to author Jon Krakauer. In many of the colleges today a "hookup" has changed in definition. First, Belback addresses the issue of incredibly expensive education with not enough financial aid rewarded to college students forcing people to spend years out of college trying to pay back loans (1). A recent study conducted by Dr. Paula England examines the sexual behavior of “14,000 heterosexual students at 19 universities about their sexual behavior.” The study showed that over the course of four years, college seniors hooked up with an average of eight people. This just shows that college students are not getting “lucky” as much as I thought they did. Then, in another survey, expressed in The Hookup Elites, Lisa Wade conveys that 91% of college students agree that their lives are dominated by the hookup culture.

During the 1980s, space exploration was a popular topic to watch, listen to, and learn about in American life. NASA had already sent a lot of missions to space, all reaching new milestones and increasing interest in space exploration. The Challenger, however, had a different mission than the rest. In his essay he talks about the many concepts of bullshit from his own perspective and compares bullshit to other related topics such as “Humbug” and “Lying”, and then breaks the words down to a basic understanding to help find a true meaning of . His use of definitions and in depth analysis, makes his essay very effective in describing buullshit. It seems that his main concerns pertain to what bullshit is.

The essay I chose is “The Top Reason to Adopt a Pet” by the Humane Society. The reason I chose this particular essay is adoption is very near and dear to my heart and I think everyone should adopt pets. The author organizes the essay using eight different points of why you should adopt a pet. Also the author doesn’t use high style to get her point across.

Cortázar carefully and deliberately lays out literary elements such as symbolism and metaphor, as well as characterization, to argue that the pursuit of personal gain at the expense of others can have disastrous implications for both individuals and society as a whole. " House Taken Over" tells the story of two siblings who lived in each other's comfort, rarely leaving their home since they never saw the need to. They were rich, with more than enough money coming in from their family’s farms to live comfortably.

The number of students enrolling in colleges and universities this year is 1.7 percent lower than it was last year" (Wong). After high school many students are faced with the decision of either going into college, going into a life outside of schooling, or going into a work force. The quantity of men and women going into college is slowly diminishing; however, the individuals choosing to attend college are attending for educational reasons, for job reasons, or for family

College represents something different to everyone. The student will be accountable for attending class, navigating around campus, and obtaining help when needed. When young people leave home for the academic world, they embark on a new journey that includes independence, adventure, and uncovering their individuality. Most students are not prepared for the trials of academe and end up feeling overwhelmed. College life can be a hard adjustment.
