The three people that had all the charges dropped were Cara Murphy who was sixteen years old, Zachary Ashley who was seventeen years old, and Stephen Schumaker who was eighteen years old. Crime experts were much divided in the reactions to the video. They were also divided on the courts handling of the assault. The two boys and six girls’ ages ranged from 14 to 18. They were charged with battery and kidnapping that held adult charges. The kidnapping charges are first degree felonies that carries a life sentence. Battery charges carry a maximum sentence of one year in jail. After everything thing that happened, not a single attacker from this beating got any jail time, not a single one of them. Usually prosecuting attorneys strike deals so that defendants will testify against other defendants. It is unknown whether any deals were made, although it sure looks like there must have been. After the chargers were dropped Cara Murphy said “I guess I’m sorry for all that happened. I am glad the charges got dropped though.” Murphy didn’t even want to apologize to her but attorney made her say I’m sorry. She goes from facing 15 years to life in prison to being let go with all the charges
