On March 30, 2008, eight teenagers attacked a sixteen year old cheerleader, Victoria Lindsay. This attack took place in Lakeland, Florida around 8:30 pm. This girl fight seen around the world would become known as the Mulberry Eight. This attack all started because Victoria Lindsay was trash talking on her MySpace page. The other cheerleaders got mad and decided to post a video on YouTube and MySpace page of them beating her up. According to Lindsay’s mother it was someone else that hacked into her MySpace page and did all the trash talking. Victoria was beaten so badly that she lost consciousness. Once the sixteen year old regained consciousness, she was beaten once again by the same classmates. The beatings did not stop there. It was said there were five beatings in all. Victoria suffered massive injuries during the beating. She had a concussion, eye and ear damage, and bruises. Victoria had nightmares about the severe beating. The bad thing is that the classmates recorded this three minute video so the beating could be put on YouTube. The three people that had all the charges dropped were Cara Murphy who was sixteen years old, Zachary Ashley who was seventeen years old, and Stephen Schumaker who was eighteen years old. Crime experts were much divided in the reactions to the video. They were also divided on the courts handling of the assault. The two boys and six girls’ ages ranged from 14 to 18. They were charged with battery and kidnapping that held adult charges. The kidnapping charges are first degree felonies that carries a life sentence. Battery charges carry a maximum sentence of one year in jail. After everything thing that happened, not a single attacker from this beating got any jail time, not a single one of them. Usually prosecuting attorneys strike deals so that defendants will testify against other defendants. It is unknown whether any deals were made, although it sure looks like there must have been. After the chargers were dropped Cara Murphy said “I guess I’m sorry for all that happened. I am glad the charges got dropped though.” Murphy didn’t even want to apologize to her but attorney made her say I’m sorry. She goes from facing 15 years to life in prison to being let go with all the charges

These students wanted what local white high schools had. Local white high schools had books with no pages ripped out, new sports equipment, a large gym, and more.
I believe the biggest misconception I had about school shooters is their feelings, or what I assumed is a lack of. What I have learned about the feelings of school shooters is that there is typically a guiding factor or initial issue that festers in someone. Said issue causes this person or group of people to act out. From what I have observed, these students typically have the brightest futures yet remain the most misunderstood of all students. Most of these students who carry out shootings killing themselves in the end, giving them a lifetime worth of attention they were clearly seeking without any repercussions for their actions.
