Volunteering is when you freely offer to do something without pay. In a person’s life, they have at least participated in community service one time. Whether it be working the concession stand at a ball game, picking up the mail for an elder, or even babysitting. For some people, volunteering helps them feel like they play an essential role while they are giving back to their community. Although volunteering is purely an act of kindness, it can also be very helpful in some people’s lives, such as making them feel like they are the difference makers. Volunteering teaches valuable lessons that can be applied to real, everyday life, which makes volunteering beneficial for all ages. In adolescents, volunteering is very beneficial to their overall life. One article states, “Random effects analyses, based on 49 studies (24,477 participants, 12-20 years old) revealed that community service had positive effects on academic, personal, social, and civic outcomes” (Goethem 2114). As a result, the studies show that adolescents’ who volunteered had a more positive outlook on life and were able to use the skills learned from volunteering in their everyday life. Mandatory service in the United States would be met with complications. If there is one thing Americans value, it is our freedom. Our country was founded on it. If that freedom is taken, even for a brief period of time, there would be an uproar. Making community service something that people are forced to do undermines its purpose and value.
In today 's society, people have a choice whether or not they want to be an organ donor, but many people die each day waiting for a perfect match. Though death is a tragic event, many people can benefit from it. Organ Donation should be required because an increase in donations can save a numerous amount of lives, inform the public about the science, and lower the statistical numbers in America. Increasing Organ Donation will be highly appreciated by the people, along with saving more lives each and everyday. By choosing to donate, the recipients are giving the suffering a second chance at life.
Nearly 3.4 million people volunteered with their organization in 2012, but they are in constant need for more. A way to discover what is going on in one’s community is to use Volunteer
By volunteering, I was able to get more insight into the principles of servant leadership and practice my leadership skills. The experience has taught me a valuable lesson in leadership that people like leaders who lead them rather than leaders who manage
Society dictates which actions are accepted and which are not. An example of socially accepted behaviour like volunteering is encouraged, while doing drugs is frowned upon. However, this might change over time, like the selling of slaves, drinking alcohol (in the United States), or smoking marihuana. But why do these habits change? And what are the consequences?
My reasons for wanting to serve Peace Corps Volunteer are personal and intellectual. First of all, I want to share the knowledge I have acquired throughout my life by making myself available and becoming part of something bigger. I’ve had the opportunity to attend school and I recently completed a graduate degree; this has been a great accomplishment not only for me, but for my family as well. Therefore serving as a PCV would be a rewarding experience not only for me but for those who have supported me throughout my life, since I will contribute towards a bigger cause by helping to improve the lifestyle of less fortunate people. After successfully receiving a graduate degree, it is expected that I find a permanent job related to my field of
Volunteering is an opportunity to make a lasting contribution in the community. Through this rewarding experience, I not only gained my service hours, but I also was able to contribute a connection with the faculty. I could always go back to them for additional support or advice. Interacting with them enhanced my communication skills. Despite all of this, I noticed how much I enjoyed interacting with children and the faculty.
The primary aim of mandatory volunteering is to encourage teenagers to be decent and caring citizens. By this way, high school students are to complete 30 to 40 hours unpaid service in their communities in order to graduate. Some people claim that having mandatory volunteering in the school program is extracurricular and affects students’ activity in the class. However, I strongly believe that it would be beneficial for their future states in a number of ways. First reason that I believe mandatory volunteering is beneficial is that it involves a great number of people from young age to serve in community.
As a kid, I spent a lot of time in youth group with local members of the community while learning about morals and ethics. However, I never quite understood the impact of a community reaching out and helping others. I only had heard things such as “it builds character” and “a little effort goes a long way.” To be honest, at the time I was a lot more focused on getting good grades and doing well in athletics, rather than doing volunteer work. That is until high school started.
It 's a hot a sunny day and also the first day of high school for 14 year old Audrey Wells. She walks past the local soup kitchen and sees volunteers inside laughing and having fun, wishing she had something like that she continued on her walk to school. As she enters her class her teacher says that he requires 10 community service hours per quarter to get a passing grade. He also says that there are many benefits to community service such as, getting teens out of their homes, giving adolescence a feel of the real world and, and providing students with chances to meet people outside of school that would get to personally know us. In the future all these things will be very beneficial to these students everyday lives.
During my entire school year starting from freshman year and ending it now at senior year; I have always enjoyed helping others. When I volunteer, I go out my way to help out others who are involved in organization or even the ones who are doing everyday things. Many of my friends may see it as uncool or wack, but I see it as building character and work ethic up. If there is a person in need of assistance with their groceries, cleaning, crossing the street, or more; I will be their to help that person out. This will help me out in the long run with college and everyday life.
So with volunteering it 's our job to get an insight on their life or what these kids are thinking. Youth of today an our community, aiming toward kids early could help out alot with the community. KIds of today are so wrapped up in violence an t.v. that they forget about the trouble path there going down and the effect it has on the community. With volunteering with the community we can prevent kids from going to Juvenile early. The community has to come together as one to show kids that we’re here for you.
Community service does not only have a profound impact on our community, but the impact it has on the individual people is even greater. The concept of community service has always been something that I grew up with, and now that I am older I better understand how important community service is for society. I have participated in community service activities. Starting in elementary school, I helped feed the homeless and rescue animals. Even with my wide range of volunteer experience, it was difficult to find an activity that would be meaningful and fulfill my thirty-hour obligation for my senior project.
Have you ever volunteered in your community? Maybe you helped at a dog shelter or picked up trash alongside the road. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, “Teenagers (16- to 19-year olds) continued to have a relatively high volunteer rate, at 26.4 percent.” Volunteering helps build character. Volunteering in high school benefits students in the future, for instance job hiring and college scholarships.
