I firmly believe that such memorials are extremely valuable to veterans. It has been said of veterans that they seldom talk about their military experiences; however, in my thinking, that is not an accurate appraisal. We think about those times; nonetheless, it’s difficult to find, even among loved ones, those with whom one feels at ease to share those memories and feelings. In order for a place to be considered a national monument it must be historically significant in the United States of America. Once this is determined by the national government it will then be made available and kept up to par for any people who wish to visit it. The President Lincoln and Soldiers Home is considered a national monument because of its popularity amongst the Presidents, specifically President Abraham Lincoln, throughout the years and because it is one of the first places to be considered a home and provide services to veterans who have served for our country. Given its importance in the history of our country it is essential that one be informed of the reasons it became considered a national monument in the year 2000.

I have driven by the Makawao Veterans Cemetery but have never stop and paid my respects. I respect those like your friend’s grandfather and your own grandfather for serving their country in order for us to have our own freedom. I thought it was so sweet that your friend’s grandmother shared stories about the love she had for her husband. There is something I like about how the military cemeteries are mad and organize. They are so put together and nicely maintained and with the American flags these cemeteries just command respect.

Did you know that there is a cemetery that holds every found soldier that ever fought in World War 1, World War 2, and The Korean war? Well yes, the Arlington National Cemetery holds more than four hundred thousand people over six hundred acres of land. It is the world's most important cemetery. You may wonder how the government found this land, and said,”Hey lets use this land as a cemetery.”

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery stands on top of a hill overlooking Washington, DC. Although the soldiers are unknown, they brought great honor to our country by their sacrifices for our freedom. Hanging the wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier would be a great honor because I highly appreciate the opportunity to pay respect to the fallen heroes who were not given the chance to receive the recognition they so deserved. Putting the wreath on the tomb would also remind me of my family members who have served and fought for my freedom and that of all Americans.

Why a push to remove Confederate monuments create violence, protests, and controversy. Removing monuments can be difficult because people will agree or disagree, because to some people its showing appreciation, and to other its showing lack of respect. A white supremacist drove his car into the counter- protesters killing one and injuring 19 others. Despite the chaos the city still plans to remove the Lee statue thought opponents have filled a lawsuit to stop the removal.

We have memorial day to remember all the people who died for our country freedom. It was officially was declared on may 5, 1886 by General John Logan. On the first decoration day General James Garfield made a speech at Arlington National cemetery, and 5,000 participants decorated the graves of 20,000 union and confederate soldiers buried there. Memorial day also became more popular after World War I and World War II. There were more American lives lost during the Civil War then the two World Wars combined.

Green Acres Cemetery really surprised me with all of the different types of memorials they had there. While most of the grave markers were traditional-looking headstones, there were also several giant and elaborate memorials. There was one memorial in particular towards the back of the cemetery that had a concrete divider around the whole plot and it contained a whole family. There was a very large memorial in a tombstone shape at the head of the plot that had a picture of the husband, wife, and daughter-who was holding her puppy, and one single date of death for all three of them engraved into it. The memorial had steps coming down from it, and a bench attached as well and all appeared to be made out

Thank you Veterans Veterans do a lot for us by defending our country and our home. We thank them by having a full day dedicated to our veterans. Three reasons that I think veterans should be thanked for are; going out to defend our country when no ones else does, I also want to thank you for demonstrating a great work ethic and doing all of this work for people you don’t even know. The first thing I want to thank you for was for defending our country.
