Was The French Revolution Preventable?

The French Revolution was a drastic time for the people of France. In 1789, the majority of people were living in poverty and dealing with terrible conditions. People were split into three estates: the first, second, and third, the first being the wealthiest. Political, economic, and social situations were what contributed to people’s desire for change. The three main, or biggest causes of the French Revolution, were taxes, inequality, and lack of reform.

Summary- Harry Sandwith is a 16 year old English boy. He is sent to live in France with the Marquis de St. Caux who is the brother of a man his father knew. The marquis believes with Harry’s schooling history he can influence and become friends with his two sons. Harry thinks he will get bigger opportunities when he moves to France and joins the British army.

French Revolution was a major revolt of French citizens turning against the traditional values of the monarchy. People realized the unfairness of the state of France and demanded change causing a major disagreement between the people of France and their leaders, the clergy and the nobility. The people of France found this unfairness in multiple way those being politically, socially, and economically. They saw the power imbalance, unequal taxing, and terrible quality of life and wanted change.

The Revolution was caused by the British and their taxes. The british just taxed the colonists to gain more wealth, and it wasn’t because they really needed the money for important things. The colonists were tired of the british making them spend extra money on things that they had felt were essential for life such as paper and tea. Because of this, they revolted. French overthrew their internal government, while Haiti overthrew their external government. The French revolution was the start of enlightenment ideas coming into place in Europe. The french were in debt The French monarchs had unlimited power and also declared themselves as representatives of god. This revolution stirred  among the French leading to the rise of Napoleon. The Haitian Revolution influenced slave rebellions in the United States and the British Colonies.

The French Revolution was one of the most significant wars that changed France’s history. The Revolution started in 1789 and ended in 1799 and was mainly initiated by the conditions affecting the Third Estate. Louis XVI was predominately the king during this time period but little did he know that an uprising among the peasants was happening. The French Revolution was caused by the Enlightenment ideas because of the American Revolution, the knowledge of rights, and the questioning of France’s government. The American Revolution was basically the “fire” that ignited the change the Third Estate wanted to see in their country.

French Revolution, starting in the year 1789, was the movement that shook France between the years 1787 and 1799. The French Revolution had many causes. There were many easy fixes the government could have done, if they had fixed them, it could have prevented the revolution. Some of the most important causes were unfair taxes, social classes and last but not least the bankrupt state. I believe one of the biggest causes was the unfair taxes.

The American and French revolutions were two major events of Western civilization. While the timing and end results of the French and American Revolutions were different, the two were much more similar in many ways. They both broke free from oppressive government systems. Both were influenced by Enlightenment ideals when recreating their governments. They both inspired other countries to start their own revolutions to rid of monarchy and to create a republic government.

The current western political philosophies in France is the result of the French Revolution which introduced the principles of civic equality and popular sovereignty that challenged the historical Three Estates. Following many European reform trends, France in 1789 began their own major reform that lasted nearly a decade.

Other historians on the French revolution have a different view on what may have caused the French revolution. George Lefebvre is one of those historians, he believes aristocracy revolting is what started the revolution. In 1789, France was precariously balanced on the edge of chaos. King Louis XVI was ruling monarch of France. King Louis’ youth depicted him as reckless, thoughtless, and unwise. A series of bad financial and political decisions, lead to his unpopularity among the people of France. King Louis was young, distracted and misguided.

This enormous massacre of people went against Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity, all of which the national assembly declared were every man 's right. Much of the killing can be blamed on Robespierre and King Louis XVI. Although it was mostly a failure, some achievements can be seen through the Revolution. The French Revolution helped the French people become a more equal and socialist state. This showed Europe that the French were capable of revolting and they were not afraid to stand up for what they believed.

The French Revolution all began after people in France decided it was time to fight for their rights and freedom and escape the tyranny that took place and give the people more power. At the time King Louis XVI was the French king and had power from 1774 to 1792 and was later executed in 1793. In France, the people were divided into three separate social estates, clergy, nobility, and the commoner as the lowest and the highest above all of course would be the king. The Enlightenment was a movement by intellectuals who promoted reason and science, and they began to question the system in place at the time in France and they began to spread revolutionary ideas that got people thinking about change. The French revolution is considered to be the most significant and effective event in the history. It changed the lives of many peoples and changed the future. Since people of France were under the control of the King they wanted to get rid of French government to eliminate power of the king. There were numerous other factors that also lead the French to the revolution. There were also many social unfairness among the taxes between the estates.
