The American Civil War took place between the years of 1861 and 1865 during this time Abraham Lincoln was president. The south was upset with the North and it was vice versa. South felt under represented now that Lincoln was president they felt they had no voice. But the main reason for succession was because they wanted to continue expanding slavery. When Lincoln was declared president the South seceded from the Union which would lead to the Civil War. War was waged, lines were drawn, and battles were fought some of the bloodiest battles in American history where during the Civil War. All in all the Union stood tall when the dust cleared. And the states that succeeded had no choice but to join back up with the rest of America. Each side has its advantages …show more content…
The war took so long for many reasons although the Union had more manpower and advanced military weaponry the South had cunning generals and men who believed in death before dishonor. Lincoln went through four generals before he found the general Ulysses S Grant who would give him unnecessary victories to win the Civil War. also the north was fighting an uphill battle the South's plan was only to preserve and it would be easy for them because they were fighting a defensive war. also one of the goals of the Union was to reunify the states with as little damage as possible. Then one of the major things probably the most important reasons as to why the war continues so long was Robert E Lee. The strategical ability of this man where genius. The way he could control the battlefield and strategize led to many southern victories.
All in all the North came out victorious in the Civil War. The North had more advantages than the South did although the south had expert generals and an undying will it was not enough to beat the industrialized north and its overhaul of
After the Civil War conditions were really bad because a lot of homes and personal properties were destroyed. Because of the War the Union lost 370,000 troop members and the Confederacy lost 260,000. Total 375,000 troop members were injured. Many civilians in the South died because of access to food was infrequent. I believe Reconstruction was necessary because after four long years of war they should move on from it and reunite as one.
The Civil War was a battle of great importance to our history of the United States. On April 12th, 1861 this battle broke out between the Union States, North, and the Confederate States, such as the South. The Civil War took place all throughout the United states, and did not come to an end until the Union won the war on May 9, 1856. So, our question of “What caused the Civil War”, comes with three important answers. The three main causes of the Civil War between the North and the South were Economic, Social, and Political differences.
The North had a huge army far too big for the south to defeat and both sides knew that the North had all the supplies and resources necessary to win the war and end slavery. The Northern people knew they would win the war and talked about how life would change for the better, before the war ever ended. For example the passage “Fredrick Douglass” states, “When the war is over, the country is saved, peace is established, and the black man's rights are secured, as they will be, history With an impartial hand will dispose of that and sundry other questions”(Douglass, 481). Therefore the confidence the North had may have helped them win the
Uncompromising differences between the South (Confederacy) and the North (Union) created a civil war that lasted five years. During this war, Abraham Lincoln was president. His election led to the secession of many Southern states. After refusing to recognize the Confederacy as its own nation, the American Civil War commenced in 1861. The three main causes of the Civil War between the North and the South were industrial and agricultural economies, politics, and slavery.
Civil War The Civil War was from 1861-1865 . During the Civil War Abraham Lincoin was the president of the United States of America . In the South the president was Jefferson Davis not of the U.S.A but of the Confederate States of America . The North won the Civil War because they had more guns , men , and more ammo .
Why the North Won the Civil War When the first shots were fired on April 12, 1861, at Fort Sumter in South Carolina, both the Northern and the Southern sides expected the American Civil War to be short and sweet. When the war did not end until spring of 1865, four long years later, with a victory for the Union, many Americans were shocked. The Civil War came about primarily because of economic differences between the North and the South. The North and South had very different economies, moral beliefs, and cultural differences. While the Union had many advantages, such as manpower, industry and political structure, the Confederacy was able to compensate for most of these with their own strategic advantages, such as military leadership, control
During the 1800s the country was torn into two over whether to allow slavery to be legal or not and the North wanted to keep the country as one that did not allow slavery. So Finally, In the year 1860 the Civil war between the North and the South broke out. the civil war first broke out when the Confederate South attacked the North at Fort Sumter. Then in 1865 the confederate south finally had no choice but to surrender to the North ending the Civil War with the North on top. However, the Civil war was not an easy battle to win for the north, and many causalities occurred.
It was 4:30 on April 12, 1861 when Confederate forces surrounded the Union base, Fort Sumter, and opened fire. Little did the Confederates know this would lead to a long and bloody war against the Union. What caused the war to occur? It certainly wasn’t only Fort Sumter, but it was many events that continually made the north and south separate more and more. One cause would be the Lincoln-Douglas debates.
Their military advantage was the way that they had skills that made them great soldiers and solid military convention, this implied they battled a cautious war. Their trained soldiers had hunting skills and went to military school. The confederates knew the domain they were fighting on unlike the North. The North's fundamental disadvantage was that they were attacking unfamiliar land with few prepared soldiers, which implied they were left going into obscure domains attempting to conquer an large area to bring the South over into the Union. In some ways it appeared like an unjustifiable fight since the North had a long way to transport troops and supplies, however they had advantages, as well.
For example, the North had a larger population and an industrialized society. On the other hand, the South had better generals, the advantage of knowing the fighting terrain, and only needed to fight defensively. All of these advantages played a major role in the eventual outcome of the war. Likewise, the North’s railroad system and industry gave them better equipment and transportation.
The Confederacy was like a fire. The north tried to smother it, but there was still a flame left. At that point all you could do was wait for it to burn out. The Civil war brought about a lot of hate and sectionalism between the North and South. Even after the war the flame of the Confederacy still burned.
Important Women and their Role in the Civil War The American Civil war lasted for four years from 1861-1865. The war occurred because of a controversy on differences of beliefs, with the primary reason being slavery and state’s rights. The war resulted in the killing of over 600,000 soldiers. The war had a lot of advances in American culture.
After four long years, the Unions won the war which saw to it that both parties ended up as a united nation once again. The North overpowered and defeated the South due to a number of reasons as illustrate below. To begin with, the fact that the South majored in agriculture made them to be left behind in terms of industrialization, an important factor during the civil war since fabricated merchandise was highly regarded than agricultural products. The North was therefore privileged to be in a better position in production of armory since it was able to host firms that manufactured ammunitions and war locomotives. The South was poorer, since cotton was no longer making ready income and they only had a few manufacturing origins.
The last main cause of the Civil War was the presidential election of 1860. Abraham Lincoln and John C. Breckinridge were the candidates. Lincoln won the election with more than half of the electoral votes. This caused major controversy. Nobody in the South supported Lincoln and were outraged when he was elected.
The North had an excellent Navy that had the ability to blockade things that were headed to the Southern states. The South desperately needed food, weapons, and ammunition but weren’t able to get their supplies because the North had blockades that stopped the supplies they needed. The North also had gun factories, shipyards, and coal readily available at anytime which puts them at a huge advantage over the South. They had more money and were just more advanced in their industry, which helped them win the civil war.
