In William Shakespeare, The Tragedy of Hamlet, Ophelia is a loving character. Her caring personality leads her to have no personal will of her own. She spends her life obeying commands of the people she loves dearly. Ophelia is the lover of Hamlet, daughter of Polonius and the sister of Laertes. In Hamlet, Ophelia is a caring character, who is forced to be loyal because of her defenseless position in the upper-class family. Right after Polonius' death, Hamlet is sent to England. As mentioned before, Ophelia is clueless regarding on the reasons why Hamlet is sent to England. Later on, she figures out the man she loves is the same man that killed her father, Polonius. When Ophelia hears this news, she is majorly shocked. Now, she completely lost it because she loses both of the most important people in her lives. Hamlet kills Polonius and Hamlet takes his leave to England. Introduction At this point in Shakespeare’s Hamlet, he uses insanity to express one’s feelings when they’re in distress. Ophelia shows the most insanity throughout the play. In this scene, she is expressing her sadness to the Queen and King after her father just died. The Queen isn’t looking forward to speaking with Ophelia after Polonius. Ophelia’s opinion is overlooked and they don’t take it into consideration.
