What Was The World Like In The 1800's

The late 19th century was a period of greed and deceit. Everyone was out for themselves to earn a living regardless of how they obtained it. Businesses as well as people were practicing dishonest business deals, lying, stealing, cheating, killing and whatever else they had to do to persevere. (rbhayes) Basically everyone went crazy and was out for themselves.

Among the 1820’s and 30’s the Social Reform Era took charge throughout the nation. This era declared change for women, Native Americans and African Americans (Document K) since free white males had conquered political suffrage for themselves. The rest of America’s population was left ignored and neglected. To avoid this unwanted discrimination, the Abolition and Women’s Rights Movements were created.

In the mid-1800s, many Americans had concerns about the issues occurring and the impact they made on the United States. To put an end to these numerous issues, many Americans decided to form groups, organizations, and also individuals. They would come up with a variety of strategies to make a change. One of the many issues was women rights. In the mid-1800s, women had a hard time being a woman back then.

A Muslin friend and I were discussing the fear that some Americans feel when they encounter him. He was born in America and considers himself a good citizen. I have known him for years. After 9-11 he was not allowed to play outside when we were kids. His parents were afraid that he would be bullied or even assaulted because of the attack on the Twin Towers in New York, the Pentagon in Virginia, and the crashed airplane in Pennsylvania.

The early 1900’s was the start of industrialization and urbanization in America and society changed into social Darwinism. During this time Americans hopes were to be able to live a stable life and become wealthy. Personal possessions meant a lot to americans which hasn't changed that much in over a century and Americans valuing products that will show off their wealth or make them look good. With the rise of urbanization and jobs coming in the city, more Americans started to become middle class hard workers. This later develop to a social class society trying to be the wealthy class in society.

During the nineteenth century, the abolition of slavery did not lead to many positive changes for former slaves. This was due the fact that a majority of newly freed slaves did not achieve anything close to political equality. An example can be seen in the period of “radical reconstruction” in the southern of United States, where freed blacks were able to gain full political rights and power but it came with the harsh price of segregation laws, virulent racism, denial of voting rights along with a wave of lynching that continued into the twentieth century. The economic lives of slaves also did not improve dramatically either. With the rise of the highly dependent labor like sharecropping, it had soon replace slavery and the reluctance

I believe in the 19th century that the American history was vindictive. Back then they denied the rights to black folk and they also attempt to use education to destroy the Native American culture. Also, in the 19th century, a major event in American history was the quest for democracy and equality. They were lynching and beating African American during Reconstruction and segregation period in the south. By reading this I understand how we have it easy than back then.

During the late nineteenth century, inequality was at its finest. Disagreements from unrightful decisions made by the government set off strikes, reforms and protests, which accelerated changes, all over the country. Oppression of farmers and wage workers hit hardest, as government decisions and how the country was running seemed to affect them the most. Gilded age farmers and workers demanded correct wages, the expansion of power of the government, and to nationalize various systems in the best interests of the people. Various interest groups were created, and aimed to gain popularity but were not successful enough to make a change.

Many new occurrences happened during the mid to late 18th century, the time period from 1861–1900, specifically. America went through many changes and the people had many conflicting ideals, one being the Civil War from 1861–1865. As seen in America’s history, ethical issues seem to always arise, including the time known as the Gilded Age, which occurred 5 years after the Civil War. This era was soon seen as a time of exponential prosperity and economic boom bringing advancements in technology, extensive population growth, and jobs. Although this seemed to be a time of enlightenment, discrimination, poor working conditions, and low pay accompanied it.

The most crucial change that occurred in the 1920s was the passing of the 19th Amendment. The 19th Amendment gave women the right to vote. Continuing the chain reaction, women found more opportunities for employment. For example, advertisers exploited sexual allure to sell everything, which many “old-timers” regarded as a veritable errotic eruption. Although a women’s lifestyle took a giant leap forward, African Americans were still in the same spot.

Everything is available for them to use, buy, and experience. Being able to have option I think made a big difference in peoples vision, during the 19th century. The lower class didn’t

A major continuity over time will always be shown in the world, even if an event took place years ago. In this standard many dates and time periods were stated. Wars broke out, new presidents took the stand, and a handful of laws were brought into place but were changed as time moved on. Even though these events were dated so long ago, they played a major role in the shaping of our nation. With the past events that occurred, these events are still practiced and used today.

Throughout history discrimination has had a negative impact on people and has cause certain groups of people to suffer. Discrimination can be against people of different race, religion, gender and sexuality and in the late 1800’s women were one of the groups that were discriminated. Women had to fight hard to obtain the rights they now have in the 21st century and many of the women who fought for equal rights didn’t get to experience those rights since laws in their favor weren’t passed until years and years of fighting. In the late 1800’s American women were discriminated because they were not granted the same rights as men in the workforce, women had to be obedient to their husbands in their marriage and society had certain norms that women

The progressive era which lasted from 1890-1920 in American society was the institution of radical reforms brought about by the millions of Americans involved in volunteer organizations across the country. During this time Americans worked to create solutions to the problems caused by the rapid industrialization and urbanization of the country. The progressive era was not a single movement, but rather a collection of movements all of which were intended to improve the lives of Americans. This was a truly remarkable time for women and the end of the era would see almost universal women’s suffrage with the passing of the nineteenth amendment in 1920.

Life in the 1930’s was a highly difficult time for many people around America . Many issues formed and began to get worse feeling in the events that happened in the 1930’s. In the novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” Harper Lee discusses the many issues of life in the 1930’s . Harper Lee references many parts of history using her fictional novel .
