President Become So Complex

The United States Government is a government formed and influenced off of other successful governments, the Roman Republic being one of them. While the Roman Republic and our current United States Government have many similarities, they also have many differences. One example of a similarity is how the government was divided. Just like the Roman government, the United States government is divided into three parts: the executive branch, the legislative branch, and the judicial branch. Even though they were not called these names in Rome, they are almost the same thing.

Article 1 Section 8 of the Articles of Confederation declares that Congress has the sole power to declare War while Article 2 Section 2 gives the President the power to wage war and states that “The President shall be Commander in Chief” (p.A17). These powers are specifically delegated in order to dictate where the legislative power ends and where the president’s power begins. In James Madison’s letter to Thomas Jefferson he implies that those two articles were possibly the most important by suggesting that because history had shown that the executive branch is “the most interested and most prone to [waging war]”, then it should be a power reserved for the legislative branch (press-pubs.uchicago.edu). The media is a major source of information for voters. Voters depend on the media to make their decision on who to support and vote for. As much trouble as the media causes, they play a major role in our political system. The American President accurately depicts the political process.

In the United States our government is broken up into many different parts. The biggest is of course the national government. The national government is comprised of the Executive branch, Legislative branch, and Judicial branch. These three compartments of government work together to approve the laws, make the laws, and enforce the law. After that power is trickled down to the state and local government.

It is being said that the president is stripping power away from other branches of the government which in turn creates democratic weaknesses. The Roman government was a republic and the United States government is a democratic republic. In the Roman republic, there were three branches of government which were very similar to the three branches of the United States democracy. Ancient Rome had two social classes, the plebeian class which was the lower class and the patrician class which was the upper class. Both the ancient Roman republic and the United States democracy have one document that spells out all of the laws of the area. A president´s responsibility is to be able to critically make decisions in various ways that will benefit and impact society. When a society is built upon democracy, it is important to choose a leader who will be able to overcome problems and present solutions that the majority will agree with. An example of influential leaders who used methods to reach out to the community to inform and persuade individuals on different, but significant issues in their speeches were Franklin D. The power of the government is under the control of the parliament. They give power and take power from local governments as deemed necessary to run the government as efficiently as possible according to the needs of the government in general. Our form of government here in the United States is a federal system. In this federal system, all of the power is given to the government via the United States Constitution. With that being said our modern presidents have been given more power than they need and more than they know what to do with causing issues throughout the country and the world. The Legislative, Executive, and Judicial branches of government are all powerful at different times and different situations. The legislative branch is made up of the two houses of Congress: The Senate and the House of Representatives. There are 100 senators in the Senate, two from each state and there are 435 representatives in the House of Representative, based on each state population.

William Henry Harrison’s speech left the idea that the president should protect the nation through the power that the president receives. For instance, President Harrison stated, “ A person elected to that high office..., must consider himself bound by the most solemn sanctions to guard, protect, and defend the rights of all and of every portion, great or small, from the injustice and oppression of the rest” (Inaugural Speech). In other words, Harrison’s words left the impression to the public that they can feel safe by President Harrison because he believed, since he has the power, the obvious way to use that power is to protect and defend everyone no matter who the individual

The president plays an important part in the government. He or she functions as the chief of state and the head of the government. The president has several powers, such as the executive power, the power of appointment, the removal power, and the power to pardon. He or she can give orders as needed and ensure they are followed. The president selects ambassadors, judges, and other officials and can remove individuals from “purely executive offices”.

In order to compare and contrast varying types of government within two or more countries, one must have a clear definition of Government and know the purposes it serves. Therefore, I did some research and I have established that Government is a group that exercises dominant power over a nation, state, society or other body of people. Governments are commonly responsible for constructing and implementing laws, handling money, and defending the general population from external threats, and may have other obligations or privileges. All over the world, there are many different types of government within countries. Each kind has its advantages as well as disadvantages regarding the general well-being of its peoples and economy.
