Under the guidelines of the criminal code, corporal punishment is allowed however with reasonable limits. This becomes problematic because, the code does not define what is reasonable and what isn’t. To conclude, corporal should remain legal however it needs to be more specific with their “reasonable limits” by defining what is discipline and what is abuse. It should also include that parents are not allowed to use tools when physically disciplining their children, and not harm the child that results into marks on their bodies or hospitalization. Corporal punishment, also known as paddling, began back in the 1800s for the disobedience of kids. Paddlings now only occur in 19 states across the country. If school paddlings still existed in all schools the punishment could get rid of the disobedience that is taking place. Disobedience is taking place in children and even young adults everywhere across the country. It’s in schools, daycares, and even right there at home right before our eyes!
