Everyone has a responsibility to do. However, for working student like me that having a part-time job while taking college courses is a big responsibility. I decided to go to school full-time and work part-time to learn to become independent. In the essay “Working at Wendy’s” by Joey Franklin, he makes a case for setting aside pride to provide the daily needs of a family. On the other hand, I think it was great to have the experience as long as it made me more money. In the beginning, I started working when I was 17 years old. I worked at a retail store in Bloomfield, New Jersey after school and on the weekend. I began working at an early age because I want to stand on my own feet and I do not want to rely on my family. In the essay “Working at Wendy’s,” Joey Franklin states, “I only applied here because I knew I would get hired, says Sara the first night I work with her.” This situation related to my experience when I am hunting the job. In that time, I do not care what my job is as long as I realized that I need to help my family to pay my tuition fees and to other expenses. However, on the first day of my job I am not sure how to associate with another employee and to communicate to the customer because I am …show more content…
However, in the essay “Working at Wendy’s”, Joey Franklin states, “I want to tell him I’m in the top 5 percent of the students at my college, that I am two semesters away from graduating, and that I’m on my way grad school to get a Ph.D. in English literature.” In this issue, they show some discrimination. In fact, it always happened to me that situation. When I am on duty, I was uncomfortable because some people think why I am working in a retail store and not to go to school instead. I always stick to my mind that it does not matter what my job is and realize to myself this is the beginning of my

“C: What time did you begin work at the factory? B: When I was six years old” (Document 7). Starting work at that young of an age isn’t good. In modern time, a child would be starting school around six years old. When kids are young they need to develop their brains, not their working skills.
The style of this essay seemed to be very informal from essays I previously had read. Yet, author John DeVore gave it his personal touch. For instance, “Unless we’re talking Taco Bell. Which I will talk about, at length, even if you haven’t asked a question that has anything to do with Taco Bell.” After reading that quote I knew that in his essay he would bring forth his personality.
The minimum age to work was nine. They were able to work nine hours instead of twelve but they still had to attend school. Then the Factory Act of 1844 was passed. The children worked half of the day and went to school half of the day. The next act that was passed was the Factory Act of 1847.
Colleges provide part-time jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay education expenses. It encourages community service work and work related to the student’s course of study. Also, the student can either work on or off campus. If they work on campus, the work is usually for the school and the off campus work, the employer will usually be a private nonprofit organization and the work is performed for the public interest. Payment is through the school and they must pay directly to the student or the student can request them to send the payments directly to their bank account or use the money to pay for their education-related charges.
The jobs they believe they’ll have are such as hair dressing, jobs in factories, or as a seamstress all because they believe to be ghetto. In the essay “Still Separate, Still Unequal,”, after a student said she wanted to take AP college classes, one student named Fortino, said, “Listen to me, the owners of the sewing factories need laborers” (216). Fortino was implying that his classmates don’t belong in colleges, he believes such thing because he repeatedly said that they were ghetto. Working class students believe that they aren’t good enough to actually earn a college degree. They believe such thing because of what they have been surrounded by, and the courses they take due to the lack of AP classes, or any sort of ROP classes.
In his chapter “The working life of a waitress” describing the experiences of his mother and six other waitresses, Rose (2004) argues that the position of a waitress requires a larger spectrum of intellectual abilities than one would perceive (p.2). Rose’s argumentation is based on four criteria; the ability to understand and navigate through a structured environment (p.6); the necessity of having a good memory to recollect routines, menu items and customer’s requests (p.10); the cognitive abilities required to perform effectively, in order to satisfy every customer (p.13); and the social and emotional skills needed to successfully please each customer accordingly (p.19). Firstly, Rose states that a restaurant has a “structured environment”,
My Worst Job When I was sixteen, one of my middle school friends named Jessica was a shift leader at dunkin she wanted me to work with her for the summer to have some extra money. It seemed like a lot of fun for the first week or so, but it turned out to be the worst job of my life. My job was the front cash register. This was fun I actually enjoyed it
A lot of colleges students work part time jobs to help cover the cost of college tuition. Though many schools offer scholarships and financial aid is available it is still hard to cover the full cost of college without taking out student loans. My friend from college has to work a part time job to help cover the cost of school, but unfortunately he just recently lost his job. The loss of his job has caused him a great deal of stress and he doesn’t know how to handle it.
“Do What you Love” is a bad choice Almost every high school and college student is told to do what they love when they are older because they will be happier. Not all of that is true. If you do what you love, you might be happy while at work, but if you aren’t getting paid enough, then you may not be the happiest. You may not have nice clothes, a nice house, or any healthy food. While those things may not be necessities in a person's life they do bring people comfort and happiness as well.
Education in our society is not necessarily followed by employment (Green, 2010). However, we are still expected to study in order to increase our chances for employment. My parents worked hard in order to be able to provide for us and to give us the ability get an education in order to get a well-paid job, so we would not struggle later in life. In my family, we were all expected to study. That in a way put pressure on me to meet the expectations my family and society had.
My First Car The first I ever had was an old model of the brand Toyota. It was color blue and was second-hand so I got it at a cheaper price. For a second-hand car, it was in a really good condition.
McDonald’s is the largest fast food restaurant chain in the United States and represent the largest restaurant company in the world, both in terms of customer served and revenue generated. In 2014 IBISWorld market research estimated MCD held an 18.6 % of market share of the entire global fast food industry; Burger King in at just 4.6%. Under franchising visionary Ray Kroc, McDonald 's became the world 's premier food brand by selling the rights to operate a McDonald 's store. With this model, MCD keeps overhead costs down and lets local owners deal with individual units, while food costs remain low and service remains fast for a culture increasingly on the go.
