Zeus was not satisfied by punishing mankind. He desired to punish the one who had introduced fire to humans, Prometheus. He sent his servants, Force and Violence, to capture Prometheus and take him to the Caucasus Mountains where he was tied with unbreakable chains. One of Greek Mythology's first written records, Homer's “Iliad”, was written 1000 years before the start of Roman Mythology. In addition, the Greek gods are also the Roman gods but with different names. The Greek gods had unique human traits that determined the decisions they would make in the future. Unlike the Roman gods, the Greek gods were usually displayed with a muscular physique, gorgeous hair, and dazzling eyes. What greatly distinguished the Greek culture from other cultures was that its authentic stories were not derived from the mythology of other cultures. The universal myths that constantly appear in different cultures such as the creation, the flood, and the hero stories are believed to have been passed by oral tradition, but the true stories behind the myths remain a mystery. The truth on whether Greek Mythology was inspired by true events or by pure imagination was left interred somewhere in the
His punishment was to be eternally bound to a mountain while an eagle fed on his liver daily. Another punishment was the creation of a woman named Pandora who was to be married to Prometheus’s brother. As a wedding gift, she was given a box and told not to open it, which of course, curiously, she did, releasing all the evils in the world today. As she closed the box, only hope remained, locked

The Myth of Prometheus follows a conflict between Zeus, who is selfish, and does not want to gift fire to the people because it would give them a better chance of becoming as powerful as Gods, and Prometheus, who sees the value of all of the learning and growth fire could inspire for the people. He understood that assisting others could be beneficial, and as a god it did not always need to be about remaining so superior to mortals. In the end Prometheus gives the people fire, and sees the great benefit it has for them. “It was not long until they learned to cook their food and so to eat like men instead of like beasts. They began at once to leave off their wild and savage habits; … and were glad because life had been given to them.”

Greek Mythology and its Influences on Modern Society By Jenna Marie A. Macalawa, Lyceum of the Philippines University – Cavite Campus 2014 Myths are not dissimilar to fairy tales, legends, and sagas, but its period is distinctly different from usual existential time. It is considered as an expression of childhood experiences, and it also explains the origin and meaning of the world. According to Long (1994), “The term mythology may describe a certain body of myths, for example, Greek, African, or Scandinavian, or it may refer to the study of myths” (p.694). These collections of narratives are superior when it comes to influencing different areas of knowledge. There are numerous types of mythology, but Ancient Greece is the one that has given an immense influence on modern society.
Deception and lies both play large roles in Greek mythology. Even Zeus, who is said to punish liars, frequently tricks both mortals and immortals. Although it always has a prominent role in myths, deceit is a powerful factor in the myths of Prometheus, Nessus, and Zeus. Prometheus was the wisest of the Titans, and the most dedicated fighter on behalf of humanity. Prometheus was the Titan who brought fire to mortals, even against Zeus’s will.

Ancient Greeks valued these qualities based on certain achievements or on a performances in war or even inside the city walls making substantial decisions. The Iliad is a epic novel by the Greek poet Homer. The Iliad is based off of the Trojan war between the Achaeans led by King Agamemnon and the Trojans led by King Priam of Troy. Sacrificing something you love for lent, or fasting during Ramadan can be quite difficult, but it shows your loyalty and love towards your religion. However, imagine sacrificing many things or even killing an animal for your “Gods.” Even though Christianity and Islam are both monotheistic religions, and sacrificing or killing an animal would not be pleasant, it was a ritual in Ancient Greece. In the Ancient Greek world, religion was present in all areas, and it played an important role in their everyday lives. Ancient Greeks worshipped many Gods that had superhuman strengths or ageless beauty but appeared in the human form.
For human’s deities are omnipotent, authoritative, dominant and immortal. If there is a need for supplication due to conflict or complication, humans turn towards the divine. Within the Iliad there are various gods who scheme a very significant role in the war of Trojan. The gods are very present, always observing, influencing guiding and most importantly, interfering in the actions of the humans. Athena, Apollo, and Zeus are three very influential divines and their interactions with human characters, along with interference towards the warfare is seen throughout the Iliad.
In the story, we can see that Prometheus knew how to steal fire from Hephaestus’s forge. He was wise since he was able to collaborate with Zeus so that he could avoid punishment together with other titans. He is also seen as a wise man since he could warn his brother not to accept gifts from the gods during the Pandora’s Box legend. He knew Zeus would be angry. Also, Prometheus was a pillar of hope to the Greek revolutionaries.
