Explain The Factors Which May Affect Children And Young People's Development

Aparna after each session spent supporting with the children, Aparna reports to the teacher which includes information about how the children behaved whilst working. If Aparna have had to use any sanctions, Aparna informs to the teacher. , if children have behaved and participated well, or produced some good work, I also include the rewards I have given them e.g. stickers, showing their work to the head teacher and five minutes playing outside, similarly informing that child that she/he would have to go back to his classroom instead of joining in with the planned activity if continued to behave in a negative way.

Where children live and the way they are brought up by their parents/carers has an effect on whom they are as a person and how they will develop. For instance if parents are rich or poor, live in good or bad housing, if they are capable loving carers or struggle with parenthood and/or their own (mental) health, or if there is abuse or lack of interest in the family unit, all these circumstances will make a difference to a child’s life and their physical and emotional health might be affected by these different scenarios. A child’s family and their home should be their safe haven and if it is not, then it can have a serious affect on them emotionally. Some children might be negatively affected by situations in their live and they might be in need of help but unable to ask for- or obtain it, for instance respite care to help caring for a sick parent.

During this developmental interview, I chose to conduct an observation/interview study with my one of my cousin’s child. This child is a 4 year old girl and will be identified as “child K” in relation to her first name. Her parents had no problem letting me interview her, but I had them stay in the same room as us. The purpose of this interview was to observe the child’s physical, cognitive, and socioemotional development. I observed her behavior and gave her several tests to show how well she has progressed.

Explain the reasons why children and young people’s development may not follow the expected pattern: The reasons why children and young people’s development may not follow the expected patters is due to them maybe having a disability, emotional influences, physical influences, environmental influences, cultural influences, social influences, learning needs and communication skills. Children with disabilities require a lot more support than those without a disability in order to help them develop their skills and become more independent. Disabilities can affect more than one area of a child’s development depending on what disability they have and what support is available in order to help improve the child’s needs etc. Emotionally children are affected due to them maybe having signs of depression where they are quiet than the rest of the children and they shy away from joining in with different activities and getting involved with other children.

This is important to ensure that a child is being supported to meet their set targets and they reach their full potential. Also any strengths or weaknesses can be identified during this process. A support plan is usually completed with a child as this helps to identify their needs, the plan can then be tailored specifically for them and adapted if necessary, this is then reviewed at intervals to monitor the progress made. We currently have a placement plan at our home that we use with the young mothers. This helps to identify their support needs and what areas they feel they may need extra support with.

Explain the importance to children’s holistic development of Speech, language and communication This development is important for children’s holistic development as this will help the children to socialise and help them express what they like and need, this will get them to have more sense about the world. If the child can communicate this will help them with their confident and self-esteem levels as they can talk about how they feel.it is important for children to use their own language skills and not to listen to other all the time and this could put their development back. Adults should praise children a lot so they have the encouragement try new things but it is important you adults to give them feedback so that they can learn from right and wrong.

It starts with infancy and continues to adulthood. By gaining knowledge about child development, a synopsis of what children can do at various ages can be formed. Following are the three theoretical perspectives of child development: i. Maturationist’s View of Child Development : Maturationism is a premature childhood educational philosophy emphasizing the child as a growing individual in which knowledge exists. Based on Arnold Gessell’s work, maturationists suggest that “genetic factors play a bigger role in development than environmental ones” [8].

Child development is an area of significant interest to professionals who deal with children on a daily basis. It is through child development theorists and their theories that we begin to form an understanding of how children develop emotionally and socially to become fully grown adults in society with a moral and emotional compass/. Teachers need to study child development in order to provide developmentally appropriate educational experiences for children. Health professionals also need to understand this area to support children in their physical, social, emotional and cognitive journey to becoming functioning adults in society. Childhood is a concept that is affected by social context and also by history. Here in the West childhood was not always considered to be a fundamental developmental phase in life with children in Victorian times working from as early as the age of four.

When it comes to development, maintenance, and treatment of substance use and addictive disorders, social and cultural factors play a huge role on each of these things. Social factors play a big part in developing the substance use. For example, if you are in a social group and those peers partake in deviant behavior, it is more likely that child will also take part in that behavior. The child will start the substance abuse and their peers will reinforce the behavior. When it comes to maintenance and treat of substance use and addictive disorders, peers still play a large part in it.

Practitioners can implement this into practice through a number of ways such as both observing and understanding the development and learning of each individual child, before assessing any learning progress and planning the next course of action. The idea that children’s learning and development should be closely observed and assessed can be linked to Plato (427 B.C–346 B.C). Plato believed that it is observation that allows practitioners an insight into what children are interested in, what they are good at, and where they may need additional support; from this they are then able to plan any next steps. A Unique child also states that both children and their family should be respected and value, this belief was shared by Robert Owen (1771-1858.) Robert Owen opened a school for the children of his factory workers in order to provide the workers with childcare, and the children with education.

In the contemporary times, great importance is given to the significance of early years of a child’s life. It is widely acknowledged now-a-days that the early childhood years are a predominantly receptive phase in the developmental process. This stage is responsible to lay a foundation in early days and later years for cognitive functioning, learning process, physical wellbeing, and self-regulatory capacities in both personal and social lives. In simple words, “the period from birth to age 5 is one of opportunity and vulnerability for healthy physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development” (Karoly, Kilburn & Cannon, 2005). However, it is also a fact that many children go through several stressors during their developmental years due to which their healthy development may be impaired.

Newborns communicate with hand gestures and sounds. With toddlers, they gain social skills and can move on to communicating with words and sentences. Supporting language development with a child can be done by having conversations with them and allowing them enough time after to process what you said and get a reply. In the video Bottomless Boxes, I noticed that the children were having a conversation with each other. The children were interacting with each other and showed one another how to climb through the boxes.

Researching infants and children is a crucial area of research in lifespan development psychology. It provides important insights into the early stages of growth and development. As important as researching infants and children is there are many ethical implications that psychology researchers must consider when studying such a vulnerable population. Researching infants and children offers an opportunity to try and understand the complex processes that underlie early human development. Infancy and childhood are crucial periods of rapid growth for the brain.
