For this extended assignment I am going to focus on play and the importance of play is for children and young people. I am going to focus on children up to age of 6. “Play is a spontaneous and active process in which thinking, feeling and doing can flourish.” (http://www.playwales.org.uk/ ). Play is Important for children and young people’s as it can help children to build their confidence. Also, play helps children to develop their physical, mental, social and emotionally. It is important that when practitioners create the indoor environment they take into account of the children and young people’s interest, age and their individual needs. This will help the child to feel valued when going into the setting. The practitioner can plan activities within the environment as this can help a child to learn new skills. A practitioner can do this by using the indoor or outdoor environment, this could be by allowing the child to go on bikes. This will help the child to develop their physical development without them knowing and using play. Another example is allowing the child to explore the outdoor setting by hiding different objects. This will allow the child to play and learn at the same time. It is important that in the setting the environment. There are some strengths and weaknesses of using the Foundation Phase within the environment. One strength as it can help practitioners to provide different activities while using the space. However, if the practitioner does this every day then it can be time consuming as practitioners will have to provide activities to meet the individual needs of the
