Reconstruction Scandals tweed ring William "Boss" Tweed began his rise to influence in the late 1840s as a volunteer fireman in New York City. From this inauspicious beginning, Tweed managed to build a power base in his ward. He served as an alderman in 1852-53 and then was elected to a term in the U.S. House of Representatives, 1853-55. State and local affairs were his prime concern and he remained active in Tammany Hall, the organizational force of the Democratic Party in New York. Tweed emerged as the focal point of patronage decisions, giving him immense power.

The election of 1828 was like no other before for many reasons. The election was different partly because of changes in social and campaign practices. More people were starting to pick a political part and vote for that party’s candidate only. People not only picked party’s and stood by them but they also started to show support for their candidate in new ways such as parades newspapers and any way they could spread and show their support for their candidate. The makeup of the electorate played a big role in the election of 1828.

In election of 1800 it was John Adams vs Thomas Jefferson for the race to become the second president. The slogan is Are you going to vote for Britain again?. John Adams is a Federalist which is a person that believes that the government should be in control. Britain had monarchy system which is what Adam as it is seems to think is the perfect system because he thinks that the government should be in charge and the people shouldn 't get a say in what is happening. The politicians of the 1800 's were a whole new breed of men because a centralized government was no longer a threat as the previous generation had experienced (Schultz, Mays, Winfree, 2010). The Democratic-Republican Party, led by Henry Clay and John C. Calhoun, now favored policies that would encourage economic growth other than the agricultural policies of the Jefferson era. The party now wanted to recreate the national banking system, make a national internal improvement, and to raise tariffs on imported goods. He was known for his populist views and famous speeches. These factors led to Bryan being widely regarded as one of the most influential political figures of his time. The United States Presidential election that took place in the year 2000 was between George Bush and Al Gore. The vote was very close and it ended up all coming down to Florida. Once the votes were counted and it was revealed that Bush had won, Gore wanted a recount of the votes. The matter was taken to the Florida supreme court and Gore ended up winning the case.

The penny has not always had Abraham Lincoln on it, but it has always had the word “liberty’’ on the front.(Source G). The United States is known for being a place of “liberty and justice for all’’,and when Lincoln graced the face of the coin in 1909 the symbolism of the penny only grew stronger.
