Soon after the election, Adams was accused of making a ''corrupt bargain'', which was when Henry Clay convinced congress to elect Adams to assure his victory.

I have feel a bit better than before in the beginning of the History 7A from writing the essay. This time my focus was on the different of political parties on their successes and weakness. I have more on their successes than on their failures. I talk more on Andrew Jackson since he was an important candidate that started the Jacksonian Democrats. He created the Corrupt Bargain that say John Quincy Adams and Henry Clay made a deal among each other and made it impossible for Jackson to win the election.

The role of the President of the United States of America is defined by those who have held the office. The vagueness of the Constitution has allowed the power of the office to grow and shrink with the personal differences of the men who have held the position. The presidency is not just effected by those who hold the position, the institutional environment and the society of the time also take a massive role in determining the power and effectiveness of the presidency. Theodore Roosevelt and Andrew Jackson are two of the most influential presidents because they were adored by the people. Roosevelt and Jackson both stretched the power of the presidency in ways that were never envisioned by the framers of the constitution.

The leader of an entire nation and its military forces needs to have a certain intuition and connection with its country. Without this, the leader would seem more like a ruler, which is why electing a president is a more appealing choice to most Americans. In the election of 1864, the fate of our whole country was indirectly affected by the outcome. 3 years into the Civil war, the union was electing, or reelecting, its new president. Abraham Lincoln and George McClellan both ran for president in 1864, but Lincoln came out on top after a very long fight to win for the presidency.

The candidates in the presidential campaign of the year 1868 included two men, Ulysses S. Grant and Horatio Seymour. During these times, there was only two political parties: the Democratic and Republican party. Ulysses S. Grant represented the republican party and Horatio Seymour represented the democrat party. After Roosevelt’s two terms, William H. Taft came as his successor. Roosevelt had put his trust into Taft that he would carry on with all the policies Roosevelt had yet been able to put into action before his time was up, but Taft had done exactly the opposite. Taft reversed many of Roosevelt’s policies which could be called a battle won on the conservatives end, but soon after Taft began to try and lower tariffs. Taft ended up splitting the Republican party up which helped the Democratic party greatly in the election of 1912 when Woodrow Wilson won the presidency. Wilson was a great asset to the progressive cause, fighting against the four privileges: wealth, banks, tariffs, and trusts.

Despite being the only major political party the Democrats experienced a lot of conflict among themselves Eventfully a party known as the Whigs developed. Both the Democrats and Whigs wanted to expand the numbers of voters. They accomplished this by eliminating several voting restrictions put on white males. Like the Federalist the Whigs supported northern merchants. Besides supporting merchants, the only thing members of the Whig party really had in common was there opposition to the Democratic party.

The article Hillary’s Popular Vote Holdouts on Collision Course with History was very interesting, in my opinion. In the beginning, the author spoke about how the popular vote has basically no meaning behind it, the candidate can win the popular vote and still be far from winning the election due to the votes in the electoral college. I do not believe that this is how elections should be run. Candidates should win based on the entire population that voted and the government that they want to live under, not a few government officials. Elections have now turned into a competition where the candidates are not running to please the people anymore, but please the government.

The Constitution of 1876 came from the result of the 1869 destruction Constitution. Edmund Davis a former union general, a Republican associated with the drastic faction of the party had governed under this Constitution. This Constitution had a reduced local government control giving the executive centralized power. What was believed to be a corrupt exorbitant administration led by Davis in everything you maintain this power and control of governor. Davis manipulated the Supreme Court to invalidate the new elected governor Richard Coke.

Unlike William Jennings Bryan, William McKinley welcomes visitors into his home. In contrast the Republican campaign had over 3.5 million dollars donated. In November, Republican McKinley won the election. I believe the traditional ”front porch campaign” propaganda led to his success.

The election of 1800, involved two parties. The Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans. John Adams and Charles C. Pinckney represented the Federalists and Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr represented the Democratic-Republicans. In the election of 1800, the candidates’ supporters wrote letters and articles to make their arguments against the opposing party. They didn’t travel around and give speeches like today.

Republicans vs. Democrats When the United States of America was founded, George Washington warned against the formation of political parties. By the time the second election came around there were already two political parties, the Federalist and Democratic-Republicans. These parties eventually turned into the Republican and Democratic parties we have today. While these parties have shifted to become almost polar opposites politically, they still share some common goals.

Many people believe that the election plays the most important role in democracy. Because a free and fair election holds the government responsible and forces it to behave on voter's interest. However, some scholars find evidence that election itself is not enough to hold politicians responsible if the institutions are not shaping incentives in a correct way. In other words, the role of the election on democracy, whether it helps to serve the interest of the public or specific groups, depends on other political institutions. I
