Once, in a very distant country, an old man lived. He had a wonderful childhood full of adventure. He often watched the pictures in the albums he had made as a child. But from one album he kept his whole life away. Although, it was the first album he had ever made, he did not like what the album contained. But that day he told himself it had to stop. He sat down at his old desk where he had been sitting when he had looked through the albums. As soon as he opened the first page, he remembered the story. It was as if all of that was happening all over again. That had happened more than 40 years ago when he was still a child. He, his friend Taylor, a bear, a squirrel and a rabbit, loved exploring the world that they lived in. One day they had …show more content…

It was hard, but they made it to the Giant. It was easy climbing the mountain for the boy and his friend Taylor. It was a bit harder for their friends, but they made it to the top. There was a smell spreading from a huge cave. They got inside, but on their surprise, the mad scientist had allready been there standing right in front of them. In his hands, he had, what seemd to be a glass bottle. He was looking, first at the bottle and then at the children. His smile was small, but very loud. Then, with no regrets, he just dropped the glass on the floor. Meghan screamed with agony in her voice, while others did not realize why was she screaming. When she stopped dreaming, she told them tham that bottle contained the potion. The scientist was still laughing at them. He said that he knew that they would come. He started walking in their direction and got out of the cave. They were looking at each others, saying nothing. Sad and desperate, they came closer to the broken glass bottle. Taylor slipped on the potion and started to slide to a small

Many know about the idea of the "monomyth," or the hero's journey as an outline for many of our modern books, movies, t.v. series, etc. Joseph Campbell's definition for the hero's journey is, "the quintessential (or best example) of an archetypal myth. " The Disney film Hercules is one of the best examples of Joseph Campbell's monomyth. For instance step one of the hero's journey outline is the Ordinary world. Hercules was born the son to Zeus and Hero.
She entered the cave with no hesitation as if it was pulling her towards it. A faint glow could be seen at the far end of the cave. She slowly walked towards the glow as she heard a whisper fill the room. “Climb to the top of the mountain and water the cactus.” Of course this made absolutely no sense because water was nowhere to be found.
Joseph Campbell was an American mythologist and philosopher. He wrote works such as “The Hero With a Thousand Faces”, “The Hero’s Journey”, and “The Power of the Myth”. Also, because this is interesting, he was one of the fastest half mile runners in the world at one point (The Hero's Journey Summary.). CHAPTER 3 When I was ten years old. I had a dream of a plane crashing and a girl looking at me through fire. I had that dream for weeks at a time, and I would wake up screaming. I remember a time when my mom was at church, but I was at home, sick, and my father was taking care of me.
Famine struck our resources which resulted in our nations exploration voyages. Eventually, the Kingdom received word of a new land that our Heavenly Father blessed upon us. The returning sailors would tell the townspeople that they followed the beam of the Sun shining through the crevice of thick ominous clouds while noticing an acclivity below it in the distant waters. They continued sailing until it amassed into an expanse of their entire field of vision. What they described was a divine and fruitful sight sent by God himself, and they swore that whoever goes there would forget all their woes.
Darkness. That was all I saw when I awoke. Where I laid was absent of all heat, sending multiple shivers down my spine. I tried to move, but it proved to be unsuccessful, for I could barely move a finger. I had no memory.
The Epic of Gilgamesh is an ancient tale that tells the story of a man; two thirds god, one third man who struggles with his destiny and mortality throughout his journey, finally making peace with his destiny as a mortal. Gilgamesh does not fit the model of a hero in this tale, particularly the definition set by Brian Robb, as “his arrogance has no bounds by day or night. No son is left with his father… his lust leaves no virgin to her lover” (62). While he does not fit the model of a hero, this term is irrelevant in this case as his story still follows the model of the Hero’s Journey set out by Campbell and by emitting both negative and eventual good values he becomes more approachable to reader who can be more empathic to his struggles. The concept of the Hero’s journey is arguable a popular storyline for many stories ranging from Epic of Gilgamesh to modern day Harry Potter and is frequently seen in other literature and media illustrating that the concept of hero and a hero’s journey is not a new one however is still very prominent today.

The Heroes Journey, identified by American scholar Joseph Campbell, is a pattern of narrative that describes the typical adventure of the main hero, whether that be a fiction or nonfiction hero. The first step is the call to adventure, where something shakes up the hero’s current situation and the hero starts experiencing change. Consequently, this theory is also applied to the fictional hero Odysseus in The Odyssey and the real-life hero Martin Luther King Jr., a civil rights activist. In The Odyssey, Odysseus embarks on a 10-year voyage from Troy to Ithaca and encounters many monsters along the way including a gigantic Cyclops described as “…a brute so huge, he seemed no man at all…” (9 89-90).
As they got closer, they pulled out their licorice whips. Their hearts were pounding away. They stepped behind the figure, who was nibbling on Lance Armstrong, and threw the
Mythology for many years has been seen as folktales and stories that help entertain people. In the modern world the influence of ancient mythology has been very impactful on the entertainment world, as it has allowed for the creation of fictional characters and films that have brightened millions of people's lives. The influence of these stories in ancient times may rival those of the modern world because of their vast influence on the world as it has affected many parts of it. The understanding of these topics is greatly led by the study of mythology which has given insight into human nature , and emotions of people as they often depict human experiences.
Movies from the past and present, maybe even the future, all have the hero of the story follow a 12 step journey to reach their end result. This twelve step process is called the Hero’s Journey, invented by Joseph Campbell. It allows the hero to start at a status quo, go from an ordinary world to an imaginary world and then come out full form. The hero 's journey allows to compare characters paths and the lesson that they learned . In the book Odyssey, written in the 8th Century BC by Homer, Odysseus follows a similar journey to a more modern heroine, Moana in the movie Moana, directed by Ron Clements and John Musker.
