In Cold Blood I read a non-fiction novel entitled In Cold Blood written in 1966 by Truman Capote. One of the many reasons I enjoyed reading In Cold Blood is the use of many effective metaphors, my favorite being the title, In Cold Blood, a metaphor used to describe how the Clutter family was tortured and gruesomely murdered. Another literary device that captivated my mind was how Capote used repetition to vividly describe setting in a way that scintillatingly incorporated visual imagery. Another rhetorical device that Capote employs is dramatic irony, this complements all of the other devices that Capote uses because in each section of the book he uses imagery to describe the setting or situation. In Cold Blood is a profound masterpiece, simply because the author is able to create an atmosphere using his words. …show more content…

The Clutter family was an ordinary working class, well respected American family who did not know that they would be murdered repugnantly by someone they had never meet before. The term cold is defined as a relatively low temperature or to lack affection or emotion. This definition perfectly describes Perry and Dick, uncaring towards the welfare of other living things. Furthermore the definition of cold, in its tradition sense, a low temperature, literally describes the Clutter family after they were killed because the human blood decreases in temperature 34.7°F every hour that it sits without blood circulation. Therefore, the title, In Cold Blood accurately describe the fate and the condition of the Clutter
