With enhancement in technology, the distraction of the media, and the lack of discipline of oneself has made students think of easier solutions to their problems. Instead of studying for long hours as our ancestors have done, we choose to satisfy ourselves with social entertainment and other fun activities then look for easy ways out when it comes to tests or final exams by taking drugs. On the other hand the fast lifestyle we have in today’s society also impacts our way of learning with limited number of hours to focus on school which are taken by work, family, and other personal issues. Students do not have much time to study the large quantity of materials that’s presented by difficult courses which causes frustration and impatience. The demand on need of different solutions is increasing and supply of that demand is pointed in the same

Stimulants like these are used by students because of the effects it has on the user. Adderall makes the user stay awake and feel alert and focused, this makes it the perfect drug for a college student looking to stay up all night to study. College students are the ones most commonly taking Adderall without a prescription because its effects can help students stay awake to cram for tests, Amy Laskowski in “The other side of Adderall” claims: “A fall 2007 American College Health Association study found that over 90 percent of college students felt overwhelmed by all that they had to do” (1). It is not a surprise when it comes to college students using these illegal prescription drugs to boost abilities and to study harder and longer.
Hi Noshaba, Thank you for your presentation. You have a very profound question as to the role of physical therapists in opioid addiction. It reminded me of the very inspiring words of the APTA president, Dr. Sharon Dunn (American Physical Therapy Association [APTA], 2015). I would like to quote what she said: “Physical therapists can help individuals manage pain, and greater use of physical therapy could make a real impact on the tragic levels of drug abuse in this country- abuse that often begins with a prescription for pain medication. Efforts like these are at the heart of what we mean when we talk about the transformative power of physical therapy.”

There 's plenty of drugs the world may think is fine to use only because it 's given to you by a doctor. All prescribed drugs are made to help someone in some kind of way; some drugs are being issued without having the focus on how it can affect the patient in a harmful way. In most cases, these drugs are free based on the patient health insurance, which may cause some to take advantage of the treatments. In that case, both the doctor and patient should be aware of the uses, abuses and side effects of these drugs such as Adderall. Adderall is a commonly prescribed drug that is known for treating mostly kids.
According to the 2013 National College Health Assessment study, almost half of students surveyed stated they felt overwhelmed with anxiety in the last year (Novotney, 2014). These numbers continue to rise among high school students and college students around the country. It’s no question why the percentage of Adderall use among college students is also rising. Adderall is a drug commonly prescribed to treat ADHD and its symptoms; however, its use among students without the ailment is rising. The drug heightens students’ motivation, focus, and concentration (Student Health, 2016).
A couple fellow classmates in high school and college were always taking some kind of pills. Myself not knowing much about drugs, I thought they were prescribed. Later, I found out that they weren’t prescribed. My classmates were using them for themselves and also distributing to other students. I never spoke up about it, since I never witnessed the distribution but rumors go around.
The lack of knowledge concerning the effects Adderall has on one’s health and the misuse of the drug has led many students to believe that there are no negative side effects of the drug. The negative effects of Adderall on the human body outweigh the positive effects that are better known by college students. Ninety-five percent of the articles in media reports “mentioned at least one possible benefit of using prescription drugs for neuro-enhancement, but only fifty-eight percent mentioned any risks or side effects” (Lakhan). Since the negative effects of Adderall are not talked about much by the media not many college students are aware of what they are taking and what could happen. Negative side effects of Adderall and drugs similar to it
What most college students perceive to be performance enhancement is actually drug abuse. Adderall is a medical drug that is prescribed to patients with sleeping problems, attention and behavior problems. Being a sufferer of severe Narcolepsy, I have had years of personal experience with this medication. The medication is very potent with highly addictive properties and is directly connected the body’s “reward” system. There is a fine line between recreational drug use and drug abuse.
Shokran for updating us on your situation with your mother-in-law. It sounds as if she is continuing to overstep boundaries and has not calmed down with her insensitive remarks. The comment about the medication being being methadone is certainly a strange way to try to be humorous. I think at that point sister I would have also been shocked and ask her why would she say that. Often times people have strange senses of humor, depending on the lives they have lived, experiences they went through and how they were raised as well.
In “College Pressures” by William Zinsser, leader of one of the residential colleges at Yale University, the author describes the different amount of pressures that students struggle with in college. Because of his position at the university, he constantly noticed the students around him and the anxiety that was radiating off them. He believes that economic pressures cause students to feel anxious about paying back student loans after college. However, parental pressure leads students to make decisions that their parents would be happy with because of the feeling of guilt and wanting to please them.
Rationale From observation majority of the students are faced with social, personal and academic challenges. They are at the stage Identity
