The Civil War was a long and hard-fought war and considered the deadliest war in U.S. history. The war was between the Union and the Confederacy over disagreements between the two sides. With the Union winning in the end, these are the three most significant reasons the Union won and had the biggest advantage in the war are that they had a much larger population, they had a much more optimal economy for war as well as more advanced technology and transportation. The first reason the North won and had the advantage in the war is because of their population size. With the North having 18.5 million people and the South only having 5.5 million people it creates a big disadvantage for the South. This heavily benefits the North because in any war …show more content…
As the North was a much more industrialized area with many factories to make everything needed for war. While on the other hand, the South is a much more agricultural-based economy but the North still had more farmland that could operate without slave labor because they had small farms rather than large plantations. The North also had natural resources such as iron, coal, copper, and gold that were much more abundant there than in the South. A few examples of the comparative advantage of the North’s manufacturing is that the North produced 17 times more cotton and woolen textiles than the South, 30 times more leather goods, 20 times more pig iron, and 32 times more firearms. The North produced 3,200 firearms to every 100 produced in the South. The final reason the Union won the war over the confederacy is they had much more advanced techology and better thansportation. Since railroads became such an important new technology in the war the Union having a massive railroad to transport troops, medical supplies, and food made it a huge advantage compared to the small railroad the confederacy had. The North also had the telegraph, which was another technological advantage over the South. Some ways the Union used this was that military leaders were able to communicate in real time using the telegraph. They had updated information on enemy troop strengths and
The American Civil War drastically intensified problems between the North and South, as well as disagreements among the citizens of those regions. The North had numerous advantages over the South during the war. They had a larger population which contributed to the amount of people serving and supporting the army. The majority of America’s profitable industries were within the Northern borders which helped the Union support and supply the army and residents. Due to the North having a far larger and better army and navy they were able to besiege the South.
The North had many advantages over the South in the Civil War. They were able to move food and supplies at a more efficient rate, due to their advancements in the Market Revolution. The military demands greatly benefited the industries such as arms and clothing. The railroad industry prospered as well, carrying troops and supplies to the front lines. The South on the other hand was shattered.
Now four long years later after the war, the North has won the Civil War, there were many key factors to the resulted to the defeat of the Confederacy they were not fully equipped with the right tools for success and an army that wasn’t properly trained. The confederacy had internal conflict with the slaves, they wanted to have their freedom and not have to fight against the other side that wants to give them rights. The Confederacy had 1/3 the population of slaves who wanted to be free and not have to keep being treated badly. There were many ways that the Union army had the confederates at an advantage. The key factors that led to the Union is they were well prepared and had the resources in order to defeat the Confederacy.
The North had beaten the South in the Civil War. The North won the war for many reasons; they had some advantages over the South, a great leader, and the desire to win. The North and South fought many battles before the Civil War ended. Each battle had a different outcome and some encouraging the fight and some ended in despair.
The benefits and drawbacks of the two were antithetical; where one was strong, the other was weak. The Confederacy had a strong morale, its soldiers were equipped with knowledge of the area, many of the most preeminent military officers were from the South, and the South’s soldiers had pre-existing skills that prepared them for war. However, its disadvantages were that the Confederacy had few factories to produce supplies, had few railroads to move troops and supplies, and had a small population able to fight. In contrast, the Union had a copious amount of factories due to its high involvement in industry, had more than 70% of the nation’s railroads, had a larger free population, and had a strong navy.
The Civil War, one of the most important events in history, was a lucky win for the Union as the South and North both had key advantages against one another, but some of the events that led to the North winning were; Battle of Antietam: The Union gained a victory against the South in the single day, bloodiest battle and it boosted war morale, something the North originally lacked. This also led to Britain pulling its military aid from the Confederacy, which hurt the South because they needed foreign help to win the war overall. Transportation Revolution in the North: The Transportation Revolution globalized the use of roads, steamboats, canals, and railroads to transport goods throughout the United States and foreign countries. This helped
The North possessed the majority of iron and steel mills, livestock and packing houses, munitions factories, and other manufacturing locations. This allowed the North to poses a huge technological and industrial advantage over the South. The capitalistic ideas in the North allowed new innovations such as the gatling gun to thrive and speed up the war. In contrast, the South’s economy focused almost exclusively on agriculture (remember, cotton is king) and a socialist and racist plantation system.
The north had a larger population. The north had a 22 million population while the south only had 9 million. Without even knowing the downfalls of the south, you can already predict that it won’t work out well for them. How are you supposed to fight a war against a location that has over 11 million more civilians than you do? It sounds nearly impossible.
The Civil War was very complicated and deadly, it caused a lot of damage, but for a greater step that had to be taken, slavery had to end, and so came the Civil War. The North, or the Union, won the war for many reasons, but mainly for their great advantages such as more resources and money provided, basically a more stable economy, their army with more helpers and soldiers than the South and not only having the president’s support but also having the higher ground in many battles. During the 1800’s the U.S divided itself between North and South, the South's economy being overtaken by agriculture, the North slowly evolved into a more industrialized society. Along the years, the North had more factories, railroads, banks and with all that of
The Civil War was an outstanding victory for the North. There were many reasons to believe the North had this war in the bag the whole time. They had several advantages to the South like their Naval strength, access to railroads, larger population, and their thriving yet better economy. The North used all of these advantages to its fullest. Their Navy forces were used to blockade the south, causing the South to be deprived on any goods being brought in from other countries.
During the Civil War, both the North and South had several advantages over each other. One advantage the North had over the South was their large population. Because of the North’s large population in allowed the Union to outnumber and outstand the South in major fights, as they could suffer from more casualties than the South could withstand. Another leverage the North had over the South was an industrial advantage. Since the North produced 97 percent of the firearms and had a crucial military asset with their advanced naval ships, it allowed them to easily access the center of the Confederacy through the Mississippi River.
The Unions Advantages The Civil War was a war between the Union and the Confederacy with the North named the Union also known as the Yankees or Yanks for short. The Union had many advantages including a bigger population included nearly 21 million people. Secondly, the Union also had an industrial advantage at the time as it produced 97 percent of the country’s firearms, 96 percent of its railroad locomotives, 94 percent of its cloth, 93 percent of its pig iron, and over 90 percent of its boots and shoes. Thirdly, the Union Controlled the seas and they also had well-developed railroads including 21,000 miles of railroad track which provided fresh supplies of arms, men, equipment, horses, and medical supplies on direct routes to the army's camping
After four long years, the Unions won the war which saw to it that both parties ended up as a united nation once again. The North overpowered and defeated the South due to a number of reasons as illustrate below. To begin with, the fact that the South majored in agriculture made them to be left behind in terms of industrialization, an important factor during the civil war since fabricated merchandise was highly regarded than agricultural products. The North was therefore privileged to be in a better position in production of armory since it was able to host firms that manufactured ammunitions and war locomotives. The South was poorer, since cotton was no longer making ready income and they only had a few manufacturing origins.
The North had many advantages over the South the helped them win the civil war. These reasons included a central leadership, more resources, and recruiting black men for their armies. These reasons helped the North win the civil war and play a big part in how successful they would be. With having advantages, better tactics when fighting, and also a higher population, the North would use strategic planning to fight the South and ultimately win the civil war.
The Civil War was a monumental bloodshed, which was fought between the United States of America and the Confederate States, from 1861 to 1865. The primary cause of the war was the Southern states' desire to preserve the institution of slavery, which did not please the beliefs of the North. At the beginning of the Civil War, twenty-two million people lived in the North and 9 million people, which included four million of whom were slaves, lived in the South. The North, led by President Abraham Lincoln and his trusted generals, had more money, more factories, more horses, more railroads, and more food than the south. These advantages made the United States much more powerful than the Confederate States, which ultimately led to Northern victory.
