America During The Gilded Age

North and south civil war While both sides fought the civil war over the issue of slavery, the North had fought for more moral reasons, while the South fought to preserve its own institutions. I will be writing about this as my topic and explain how it started, who were involved and what were the reasons,etc. The civil war was the most historical event in all of the world and at a site I found and used it says “While the Revolution of 1776-1783 created the United States, the Civil War of 1861-1865 determined what kind of nation it would be.” Meaning that the civil war was the changing point in the country in this era. It was the north and the south fighting over slavery and institutional reasons too.

The Civil War of 1861-65 established what kind of nation the United States would be and it is the center of attention when it comes to conversations about Americas many historical events. The four year war was between the North that was free and the South that supported slavery, all the conflict erupted after president Abraham Lincoln was elected into office in the 1860’s. The civil war started because of the conflict that was happening between these states and the different ways the people were going through life. The reason this war started was because there was so many differences between the free and slave states on who should have the power to prohibit slavery in the territories that hadn’t became states yet. Abraham Lincoln wanted to keep the slavery out of these new territories, but the South disagreed, so instead many of the slave states down south got together and formed their own nation.

January 1st 1863 President Abraham Lincoln Signed the Emancipation Proclamation. December 6th the Thirteenth amendment was passed. Brother fought brother and father fought son to end slavery.

The President at the time, Roosevelt, summoned a meeting with Sinclair, in which they discussed what he had written about. A few months later, after inspections of meat producing companies had been done, President Roosevelt established the Meat Inspection Act Of 1906. The Gilded Age was one in which the rich became richer, and the poor became destitute. The middle and lower class were forced into dangerous, labor intensive jobs

There were no major party differences in the Gilded age. Democrats were mainly Lutheran and Catholic. They promoted education and opposed prohibition. Republicans were politically more successful. They believed in social issues like having moral standards and no regulation.

April 12, 1961, marked one of the most historical events that have ever occurred in the United States -the Civil War. This war was fought by the Union (Northern states) and the Confederates (Southern states). Several factors contributed to the clash of both sides, such include: trades, tariffs, states’ rights, and the idea of slavery. After four years of fighting, the Southern states lied under complete destruction. On May 9, 1865, the fighting was over -the Union had won the war.

During the gilded age, the United States of America was going through some tough innovations. Most of the Innovations changed the way people lived and worked. One of the biggest impact on the country was the telephone which was invented by Alexander Graham Bell, the telephone helped people contact each other across thousands of miles across the country without having to wait weeks or months for mail, the impact on this was very life changing to people . Many have called the period of 1865 to 1901 the “Gilded Age”, be-cause it was “shiny and pretty” on the outside but it was “rough and ugly” underneath. The term“Gilded Age” was actually coined by Mark Twain who satired the Gilded Age with a GoldenAge.

There have been many scholars and historians that compare the Gilded Age in America to where we are today. There are multiple similarities between these two times in history. Some of which are that the people in general are moving more towards cities, inequality in wealth, corruption in big business, and labor unions. I do agree with the assessment that current day America is very similar with the Gilded Age.

This essay will examine the reasons why historians have called “The Gilded Age” to the era between 1877 and 1900, in which poverty, massive immigration, racism and corruption were the base metal of a nation that was gilded with industrialization and sudden wealth in order to make it look perfect with a shine finish. During the XIX century, United States suffered an important economic growth that took place after the civil war and the reconstruction era. The end of the war had a very decisive influence in the industrial development of the nation, giving a strong boost to it, causing a strong demand for many goods and a vertical rise in prices. The progress of American industry has had its repercussions to this day.

The loss of life was an estimated amount of 620,000 men. It lasted four years, from April 12, 1861, through May 9, 1865. However, while slavery was a major cause of the American Civil War, there were several other major factors.

The Guilded age was a period of wealth and improvement which was used to cover up poverty and corruption inside the united states. Eventhough there were lots of improvements, not only in technology but also in society, there were lots of problems. Problems such as corruption and poverty. As time went on people started to realise this problems and some got improved, but others didn’t. 　　This gilded age was a problem.
