The Industrial Revolution gave a reason to need imperialism. Europe was in need of the resources that Africa had. One way to obtain the resources necessary was to colonize and trade with the Africans living in the continent. For example, in order for Germany to obtain rubber and cotton from Tanganyika, they colonized the country and began trading. This led to the creation of fabrics, waterproof clothes, and tires from these materials.

Spain, Egland, France, and Portugal capitalized on the Americas in order to gain Imperialist growth. These countries sought imperial growth to gain riches, spread their religious beliefs, and exploit natural resources and natives.(31) A great example of how the Europeans Imperialistic growth benefited their country is Spains conquest in the early 1600's. During which time they used Native labor to mine gold and silver that filled their ships. They also sent priest to spread catholicism to their conquered Natives.

In the nineteenth century and early twentieth century, Industrial Revolution occurred in Africa and Asia. Industrialization was an improvement of technology and factories which led to the need for more materials such as textiles. The existence of factories took away job opportunities from people which forced them to work for the government. Colonial powers did not let anyone trade with anyone in Europe, meaning they were limited to Africa and Asia. Therefore, as materials became more requested, more hard unpaid labor was done in those areas.

This was a modern force that motivated imperialists in the 19th and 20th centuries which was not prevalent during original imperialism. The idea of imperialism tended to be justified by the belief in the superiority of European or white culture and the need to spread their culture to everyone worldwide. Document 7 describes that natives did not have a strong government and that they should adopt a European style of government to succeed (Document 7). As seen in this document, the white person's way of thinking justified imperialism and made it seem like imperialism was necessary. It rationalized the use of force to establish and maintain European control over colonized regions because it was seen as a blessing for natives to be seized.

Perspectives To imperialize is to take control of a culture or a group of colonies and teach them the value of another culture. Historically, Imperialism began in Europe because of Social Darwinism, the desire for humanity to make the best possible traits. Therefore, Europe began the idea that it was their duty to influence other colonies and help civilize them. However, imperialist took control of the power they gained and it later became a controversial topic. Imperialist gained power and control economically, politically and socially over the colonies while the colonized people lost cultural values and wealth.

European imperialism accelerated between 1870 and 1920 because of economic, political, and social forces. The Industrial Revolution stirred ambitions of European nations to follow imperialism. The economic force of the desire for resources, Britain’s “sun never sets”political force, and the social force is known as “the white man’s burden” were most responsible for the new imperialism that began in 1870 and 1920. There were several economic forces that led to a new wave of imperialism between 1870 and 1920. Countries all had a desire for resources.

Throughout the early nineteenth century, the ideas of expansionism swept through the United States The belief in Manifest Destiny, that the United States was destined to spread across the continent of North America, gave reason behind the allocation of new territories and acceptance of new states. However, the debate over the legality of slavery in the national identity, made it difficult to adopt new areas into the control of the United States with ease. During the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, it didn’t matter what political platform you were on, all that mattered was the U.S. expansion to new territories and whether or not the U.S. should have stayed within its boundaries. After the U.S. won the Spanish-American War, attention was placed on new countries, such as the Philippines, and the benefits, or downfalls, of American Imperialism. Imperialism is the policy of extending a country’s power and influence through diplomacy or military force.

Imperialism is the process in which a country extends their power over another. In the 19th century, industrialization occurred, causing specific countries to exploit other countries for their natural resources in order to maximize their profits. Because of this, continents such as Asia and Africa became imperialized. During the 20th century, multiple wars broke out, in which the imperial countries demanded service from the imperialized countries. This played a large factor in the imperialized countries wanting to become self determined.

The Three main forces most responsible for the colonialism and imperialism that occurred throughout the 1500s and early 1900s were economic, social, and nationalism. Economics was essential to every kind of civilization because no matter what, people would always need resources to survive and flourish. New land meant more resources and maybe even new resources. They felt a burden to save the people living in the territories around them, and claimed they had no other choice than to conquer them. Joseph Chamberlain, a British Politician spoke, “ We feel now that our rule over these territories can only be justified if we can show that it adds to the happiness and prosperity of the people, and I maintain that our rule does, and has, brought security and peace and comparative prosperity to countries that never knew shese blessings before. Imperialism is the term used when a country expands its current power and influence through diplomacy or military force throughout other lands and countries that are weaker than their own. Some motives of imperialism is, economic reasons, like industries need resources, and customers to sell to. Another reason would be military factors, and nationalism. Imperialism in the US hasn 't been a failure. The goal was to increase the country 's influence, territory, power, and belief.

They didn’t want to depend on other countries so in times of war, they still have access to all of these materials. Since these imperialist powers own country did not hold many of the necessary raw materials for crafting, they went and colonized other countries in different parts of the world so they could use those countries to obtain the necessary materials. Markets were also a cause of imperialism, as western countries were selling products to other non-industrialized regions in Africa, Asia and Latin America. This would cause the western countries to be able to make a profit, and with more money, comes more power.

There were many reasons and causes of imperialism however these four were by far the most influential of all. Imperialism increased trade, created strategic advantages, spread Christianity and education and increased nationalism. Imperialism was one of the major reasons for great Empires such as Great
