Behavioral Intervention Team

Started the new school year at Triton this fall and I am amazed by the staff and specialists that we have for the children to reach their needs and goals. We have teachers, paraeducators, behaviorists, speech therapists, and occupational therapists. They are all here working together as a team to help these young individuals succeed. Most of the individuals didn’t make it in a traditional school setting because they escape school, get suspended, having erratic behaviors that most teachers can get physically hurt if they are not properly trained. The Ventura County Office of Education provides training and refreshers for CPI training for Nonviolent Crisis Intervention.

Abigail Saxton Ms.Kuester English 12B 2 May 2023 TITLE How does someone become a behavioral technician? What type of education is needed, how long does training take, what the job in the field looks like, how long does a certification last, and what does the salary look like? These are the questions someone might ask if they were to look into the field to be a behavioral technician. The type of training and education needed to become a behavioral technician can take 2-3 days and involves multiple different types of training.

Literature Review This section will examine the history of Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS). Then explain how PBIS is an important addition to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Followed by an in-depth look at what the three tiers of PBIS are and the purpose they serve. Finally the vital role of the school counselor is explored to see whether the counselor would be a good candidate to implement the School Wide Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (SW-PBIS) framework.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION Camila lives with her mother, father, and older sister. Spanish is the primary language spoken in the home. Camila was referred to Trumpet Behavioral Health by Tr-Counties Regional Center in January 2015 for an Early Intervention assessment due to suspected delays in expressive language. She currently receives early intervention support services as indicated on her Individual Family Service Plan, which includes Service Coordination, Specialized Instruction, and Parent Education. The student that I chose to work with has 3 goals that I am monitoring. Each goal has 2 parts, so in reality, I am monitoring 6 things with his goals. Below is each of the goals and a summary of what I am doing with the student and how the student is responding to the interventions. Goal 1: In 36 weeks **** when given instruction and practice, will demonstrate his ability to interact with adults and peers by using appropriate communication skills while expressing his feelings, his needs, and seeking help in a positive fashion 80% of observed times.

My journey began when The Deron School hired me as a paraprofessional. I learned so much about myself in a classroom setting of diverse learners. First, my strong qualities, such as patience, flexibility to change, and positivity, were simply demonstrated for this position. I have witnessed staff members resign due to stress from unpredictable circumstances. However, I can simply understand the rough days which strengthens my performance to find a solution.

I agree, a counselor must be knowledgeable in treating abuse victims. Also, the counselor should be skilled in several techniques, because using only one technique might not be as helpful. In addition, the counselor needs to understand the context, which the abuse occurred, because there might be other deficits (Gladding, 2015). Therefore, by the counselor being skilled and different techniques in treating abuse, will allow them treating other issues. When working with a victim of abuse, the counselor should have a safely plan for the victim.

Carla A behavior intervention plan (BIP) is a plan that’s designed to teach reward positive behaviors. This can help prevent for stop problem behaviors in school. The BIP is based on the results of the FBA. The BIP describes the problem behavior, the reason the behavior occurs and the intervention strategies that will address the problem behavior. A BIP can help a child to learn problem solving skills and find better ways to respond in a situation.

The consultant used the Behavioral Consultation Model (BCM) as a guiding framework to assist the HTC in attaining the desired goals for the organization. The model uses direct behavior-based consultation to provide a remedial and preventive focus to assist consultees in achieving and maintaining their goals. The BCM is based on changing the behavior to bring about the expected outcome. The model looks at specific behaviors that need to be changed for success.

Background Information: Christopher is an energetic and happy little boy who was referred to the ASIP department, at The Carolyn E. Wylie Center by his Inland Regional Center Case Service Coordinator, Elsa Douville. Christopher currently lives at home with his parent(s) Daniel and Gabriela Ibarra and 6 siblings. Christopher currently receives 30 hours of 1:1 intensive behavior modification therapy per month, in a clinic setting. Christopher has been receiving services since December 2015.

Caught in the Action For my behavior modification project, I chose to eliminate the number of times that I would bite my nails. This project was taken over the course of eight continuous days. For the first four days, I tracked and recorded the number of times I was biting my nails during a half-hour time span and what situational factors and stimuli caused me to do this. Following the first four days, the next four days I chose a positive reinforcer that would help me from biting my nails.

Strength of the therapy Behavioral therapy is a treatment that helps to change a positive way to think about a situation. In another way, it also called as behavioral modification or cognitive behavioral therapy. In this therapy, patients can learn some skills for the rest of their lives because it can involve personal thinking, changing their own concepts, and changing the behaviors. Behavior therapy has some advantages in counseling culturally for the different types of clients.

The youth is the future of our society. But with the kind of environment we have now, which is what we call the “techy-world”, would it still be possible, if nowadays they are being associated with different crimes, delinquencies and misbehaviors? Adolescents display different forms of outlandish behavior. They are not just carefree novelty seekers and risk takers, but they are also uniquely vulnerable to anxiety and have a hard time learning to be unafraid of passing dangers (Friedman, 2014).

Behavior therapy has shown its strengths in various aspects. Firstly, behavior therapist consist large range of behavioral techniques at the disposal (Corey, 2013). For behavior therapist, they are subjected to wide variety of methods which could be used to tackle with different clients’ problems, and this also means that behavior therapists are able to help their clients efficiently and effectively. The characteristic of behavior therapy that stresses on “do”, which appose to merely discussing the issues and gaining insight has largely help to increase the efficiency of therapist.
