Stephen Puleo wanted to tell the story of The Great Boston Molasses Flood of 1919, so he did. Puleo is an author, historian, university teacher, public speaker, and a communications professional. Some of his works are the “Boston Italians”, “A City So Grand”, and “Dark Tide”. While I was reading this book, I was amazed of how big and fast the Molasses was moving down the streets of Boston. You wouldn 't think of molasses moving fast.

The title of my book is Lost in the Barrens. It is a fiction book by Farley Mowat that contains 244 pages. The Main Characters are Awasin, Jamie Angus, Alphonse, Denikazi and peetyuk. Awasin is a quite serious and he knows about how to survive in the wilderness and thinks more before he acts. Awasin is good at weaving, making clothing and hunting.

The book “In the lake of the woods”, written by Tim O’Brien, is about a Vietnam veteran and politicians story. The main character, John Wade, is a Vietnam veteran who was involved with a brutal massacre. John was also a politician, and in fear that the massacre he was involved with would affect his political career, John does everything he can to cover up this incident. During this time John's wife mysteriously disappears. John has an ambition throughout the story to cover up what happened to profit his own career.

Have you ever wondered how the Nazis controlled the Jewish populations of Europe so they could murder them during the Holocaust? After reading different stories like Maus, a graphic novel by Art Spiegelman, Shores Beyond Shores by Irene Butter, one can see how the Nazis massacred 6 million Jews during World War II. Three strategies that helped them do this were Law, Redistribution, and Lies. One method that was successful was Law.

Decisions do not change your chance. In Night, a Memior written by Ellie Wiesel in 1958, a young boy by the name Ellie Wiesel suffers through the Holocaust with his father Shlomo Wiesel. Ellie Wiesel first experiences the Nazi party after being evacuated from his house and put in a ghetto. At this time Jewish people did not know the motive of the Nazi party. After being in the ghetto for a few months Ellie, his father, his mother, and sister where forcefully taken from their home and put in concentration camps.

Have you ever tried to fit in for someone else? That is exactly why Susan Caraway did. The novel Stargirl is about a cheerful, free spirited girl. Her name is Susan, but she is referred to as Stargirl throughout the novel. Stargirl is sixteen years old, and has been homeschooled all her life.

Year of Wonders is set in Eyam, an actual village which was located in Derbyshire, England. Also known as the "plague village" for an outbreak of the Bubonic Plague in 1665 and 1666, the story of Year of Wonders is based off of this event. At the beginning of the book, Anna Frith is introduced to the readers as a house maid, mother of two young sons, and the narrator. Although she isn't a historical figure, through her eyes, the readers get to get an insight on what it was like living in the midst of a plague. As the story starts out, Anna is faced with the struggle of watching her friends (Anys and Mem) being accused by mobs of being witches because they are midwives who deliver newborns and use charms and herbs to heal the sick.

The story of The Glass Castle takes you on a journey through childhood from the point of Jeanette Wells. Jeanette lived through a lot of incidents that can be tied into social psychology and how people react to the situations they are put into. While we may not relate to her life of moving and extreme poverty, we can boil down her life situations into concepts that everyone can relate to and has been through. The Glass Castle starts with Jeannette as an adult witnessing her mother rooting through a dumpster in New York City.

Morgan Newton Debbie Kincaid English 12 8 February 2023 Into The Wilderness Into The Wild written by Jon Krakuer in 1997, sheds light on the true story of a twenty four year old man. Christopher McCandless’ 113 day odyssey, which was cut short by a fatal mistake. McCandless’ journey took place in 1992, and his body was discovered after spending approximately four months in the bush. Christopher Mccandless’ journey or even life was full of chance and bad luck, but unfortunately during his odyssey his bad luck outweighed his luck.

Not ever negative situation leads to an unwelcome outcome. Flannery O’Connor introduces how conflict changes a character for the better in her short story “Revelation”. The main character, Mrs. Turpin, likes to categorize the people she meets base on their looks and possessions. She is suddenly attacked by a patient named Mary-Grace, who is then quickly sedated. However, before the medication takes effect Mary-Grace leaves Mrs. Turpin with an insult that leaves a lasting impression that causes the protagonist to think deeply about herself as a person.

Although America is known for being the land of opportunity, a lot of other factors play a role in how successful a person can be. A lot of these factors can be contributed to economic and and social shifts that have been happening in the United States. Some possible solutions include: getting money into hands of low-income families, improving family relations, improving schools, employment, affirmative action. I believe that this article is primarily written for the average American who may not be aware of the issues regarding equal opportunity.

I have friends who never achieve self discovery and never grow, they don't explore their fears or lose trust when it's right. In Celeste Ng's novel “Our Missing Hearts”, Bird's journey to find his mother is not only a physical journey but also a journey of self-discovery.

Out of The Flames Out of The Flames, by Lawrence and Nancy Goldstone, talks about the Protestant Reformation and historical figures, such as Michael Servetus, who stood up against the giant that was the Catholic Church. In the 1500s, the Catholic Church was very powerful and they controlled everything. Rebellious individuals used to come out with books against the Catholic Church. For example, Michael Servetus came out with a book called “The Errors of Trinity” which criticized the ideas of the Catholic Church.

The story “A Long Walk to Water” by Linda Sue Park, tells about the journey of a young boy named Salva, living in a village called Loun-Ariik, located in Southern Sudan. Southern Sudan was in the middle of a war, this is one of the hardships Salva faced, along with lack of water, and lack of food. One day while Salva was in school, he heard a gunshot. He runs to a near bush, and this is what begins his long walk.
