Our daily choices; Do they really affect the way our lives perform? Something we may not think about often while loafing around at the house sunrise-to-sunset, is how much our reactions and responses connect to how your day goes. Essentially, this closely relates to the banning and censorship we see in bookstores and libraries perpetually. I, personally, assuredly believe that the actions of sensitive parents who worry about the content their children read, affects the education and facts that they are learning from literature. A person 's decision impacts others in an utmost way, because they provoke us to behave and act in specific ways, especially when it comes to cautious content in books and the censorship of them.
To illustrate this idea and relate it to a recent event, popular “meme” page admins on a prominent social media website, Facebook, have been boycotting the site due to the sites active use of censorship, according to an article written by Sage Lazzaro from The Observer. The admins and

One of these books that libraries reject due to the movement of parents watchful of explicit content, is titled Two Boys Kissing, written by David Levithan. The story’s plot displays two teenage ex-boyfriends trying to set the Guinness-World Record for the longest kissing session, whilst sorting out their affections for each other. The entire story continues to be portrayed by a Greek Chorus of a generation of gay men who had lost their battle to AIDS, which is an interesting element. The two teenage boys, Harry and Craig, attempt to break this world record for several reasons involving the LGBT community. They want to act as a reflection for young boys who identify as gay. Breaking stereotypes and awful assumptions of homosexuality is another main intention for Harry and Craig. The Los Angeles Times calls Two Boys Kissing “Open, frank and ultimately
A kiss for each one. So what, she said. ”(Cisneros 97) She really hasn’t accepted “Coming of Age” yet. The boys represented the cruel realities of the world because they were the things that she wasn’t okay with. Her friend Sally was fine with the appalling truths of the world.
It wasn’t until the early twentieth century that the laws and legal rights in America regarding the censorship and banning of literature was addressed. The Constitution of the United States of America defines through the First Amendment that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances” (U.S. Constitution). Despite the law specifically outlined here, declaring the freedom of speech for Americans, censorship continues to be a reoccurring theme in our culture. Group that trigger and support censorship range anywhere from the government to small private
By censoring them they deny their ability to freely express themselves as people and create huge controversy in the communities of many citizens. One example is comedian George Carlin who was forced to censor the content in his acts because people believed that it was too profane for his fans and other people in the audience. This, of course, created huge controversy due to the fact that forcing people to censor their words is a violation of their first amendment right to free speech. This was such a big deal because the people of America fought for years for that right. Another example is the riots and killings taking place in Ferguson, Missouri.
Censorship is dangerous, and too much of it can lead to an inevitable destruction of our
By true definition, censorship is the suppression and illegalization of speech, public communication, and other information which may be considered objectionable, harmful, or politically incorrect as determined by the government in authority. The purpose of censorship is perhaps to protect the people, however, negative outcomes typically follow when this route is taken to control a governed people. Censorship directly attack the main characters of Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 and George Orwell’s 1984. Although government censorship was perpetuated to create a whole and perfect society, Fahrenheit 451 and 1984 both demonstrate that censorship brought on by the government negatively controls a community’s thoughts, actions, and their people as a whole.

Humanity needs to change before all information is censored. In “College at Risk,” Andrew Delbanco discusses liberal learning and the “whole person” that may not be developed in college due to a lack of income. Liberal learning develops the “whole person” by teaching the basic ethics and morals a person should have. Anne Applebaum presents examples of censorship in her essay, “The Decline of American Press Freedom.” She uses China and Yale to make the point that differing forms of censorship are doing more harm than good.
Imagine if your life story got banned because it was too graphic and contained excessive coarse language. Well this is the exact situation Jaycee Lee Dugard found herself in with her novel A Stolen Life. Although most believe Dugard should not be in this situation due to the fact that her novel reiterates the ‘stranger danger’ concept, she has a right to tell her story, and the ban keeps her kidnapper’s crime a secret. This novel should be free to read without challenge because it demonstrates the danger of interacting with strangers, it allows Jaycee to reveal her what happened in captivity, and banning it only protects the kidnapper. Censorship is the practice of limiting access to information, ideas or books in order to prevent knowledge or freedom of thought as well
To start off, censorship is a controversial issue which dates back to ancient times, in ancient cultures for a multitude of reasons. However in America recently, older persons have tried to limit, filter, and censor what the youth have had access to. This includes print
In Kiss and Tell, Alain de Botton humorously describes a situation between tactless and socially oblivious parents and their uncomfortable adult daughter, Isabel, who is on a date with her new boyfriend. Using immaturity and a lack of etiquette in the actions of the characters, multiple examples of irony, and the anticipation of Isabel’s father’s actions which all ultimately lead to a comedic effect, de Botton produces a universal experience that brings humor to the audience while commenting on family dynamics. To depict the immaturity and lack of etiquette in the actions of the characters, de Botton uses juxtaposition in the setting, onomatopoeia, and other literary devices. De Botton intentionally sets his story in a theater with an “elegantly
The world gets crueler everyday. There are new crimes being committed daily, and sometimes it can be because of what people are subjected to. In Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, this topic is discussed. In order to create a more positive environment, the world needs censorship. Without it, kids would be surrounded by bad influences, people would always find topics to argue about, and lives can even be ruined without it.
In Derek Bok’s, Protecting Freedom of Expression On The Campus, he brings light to the issue of censorship in universities. He states that students at Harvard University got offended after a few students displayed the confederate flag. There have been many cases in which people have tried to censor offensive material however; the Supreme Court preferred to conserve the freedom of expression. He believes that if censorship starts to take place, it will be difficult to know when to cross the line. In addition, it will not fix the initial problem since the offenders will continue to abuse others using different means.
