Changing Relationships In Night By Elie Wiesel

During the Holocaust many people lost everything, including belongings, family, friends, and even their lives. Even more people lost their identities. In the book Night by Elie Wiesel, Elie loses his identity because of the Germans. They took all of his possessions and his family. They even replaced his name with a number.

The story Night is a work by Elie Wiesel about his experience with his father in the Nazi German concentration camps at Auschwitz and Buchenwald in 1944–1945, at the height of the Holocaust toward the end of the Second World War. Throughout most of the story Elie tells about his life in the camps and how they have changed him and the people around him.

Since the Nazis try to drain the mental well-being of the prisoners, Elie Weisel loses his sense of identity within the fence of the concentration camp. During the end of the Jewish year, Weisel describes himself as, “an observer, a stranger” (68). As Elie survives the camp and sees the atrocities, he loses his faith in God. He has no more strong beliefs and is more of a bystander in life. Elie believes he is nobody.

Elie’s father refused to be his mentor due to the fact that he did not agree with his decision to study mysticism.

In the beginning of the book, Night by Elie Wiesel, Elie was just a little boy deep into his religion. Reading the kabbalah and talmud and having his own guide to follow. He had a sister, mother and, father. Elie,his sister and, mother were close. Spending time and being together, on the other side with Elie’s father and himself they weren’t close.

Eliezer and his father get put into a concentration camp. There surviving is hard enough, let alone caring for and giving your food to your father when it should be the other way around. Although some would argue that eliezer’s father helps him through the camp, his father ultimately weighs him down and harms eliezer’s chance of survival through him becoming increasingly frail and weak, his health deteriorating further, and his becoming increaingly dependant on Eliezer for survival.

In the book Night by Elie Wiesel, he narrates his horrific experience during the time the holocaust took place. He is shown going through many changes within his mentality and direct focus on a person, place or thing during this time. While Wiesel cared so much about God, religion, and culture, his focus and overall perspective on the world around him tends to take a shift as he transitions into a more harsh environment in the beginning of the holocaust. Wiesel changes his perspective on his surroundings due to the suffering that takes part in these concentration camps in which he was transported into. The author of the autobiography, Elie Wiesel, is a Jew born in Sighetu Marmației, România who was taken by the Nazis to Auschwitz when he was only fifteen. His autobiography, Night, depicts his firsthand experience as a prisoner during the Holocaust.

Relationships are a fragile thing, and harsh conditions can make or break relationships. Oftentimes going through something traumatic and horrible can bring people closer together. Other times it can tear them apart because of the amount of damage the conditions brought on. Throughout the book Night written by Elie Wiesel, Elie and his father go through one of the hardest things a person has ever had to go through and it strengthens their relationship. Relationships are a delicate thing that can break down or grow stronger in horrible conditions.

This puts a big strain on their relationship. Elie is forced to take care of his father and make sure his dad is taken care of enough to survive. Elie gets very frustrated with his father for not being able to take care of himself. At one point, Elie even thinks about leaving his father behind to save himself. Since the book is about the life of Elie in a Nazi concentration camp, the circumstances were harsh and took a toll on multiple father-son relationships.

Transformation can be thought of as many things. It can be good to bad, bad to good, ill to healthy the list goes on and on, but if a person in Auschwitz were to transform it would be from good to bad. The ways they change is that they change mentally, physically and spiritually. There's many obstacles that the people of Auschwitz had to go through so they would definitely come out a new or different mad. The first way a person could transform is that they could change mentally.
