Clover Injustice At Napoleon's Betrayal

Napoleon states that the milk and apples will benefit the animals of the farm because they are keeping the leaders healthy. Napoleon further states that his actions are not selfish at all. However this is ironic because Napoleon put his needs above the other animals on the farm, therefore making him greedy. Napoleon’s greed causes the animals on the farm to rebel against him. During this rebellion, many animals are executed and Napoleon’s government begins to alternate, turning the Animal Farm back into Manor Farm.

Napoleon and the pigs continued to tyrannically rule, taking all the food for themselves while they did no work to deserve it. These were dark times for Animal Farm. One fateful morning while the animals were out in the field they heard a great commotion followed by a squeal that pierced the crisp morning air. The animals rushed to see what had made the noise.

Jones the farmer was the animal’s “leader” on Manor farm until the revolution came and Napoleon the pig took control, he renamed the farm “Animal Farm”, he gets help ruling Animal Farm with another pig; Squealer. The animals did not like being ruled by humans so they started a revolution and kicked all of the humans out. Napoleon wanted to change the farm and make it a better place but he abused the power that was given to him, and formed a dictatorship. There is also a pig named Snowball that wanted to rule

Orwell mainly uses the horse, Clover, and several other animals to try and visualize what it would be like to realize the faults in a totalitarian government. The horse, Clover, is constantly up to Napoleon’s schemes (the writings on the wall) and by the end, is too terrified of her own punishment to speak up about it. Clover begins to realize changes, Orwell stating that “Clover, who thought she remembered a definite ruling against beds, went to the end of the barn and tried to puzzle out the Seven Commandments which were inscribed there.” (Orwell, 76). By the climax of the book, Clover finally comes to sense of the sheer violence and injustice that has become of their own society: “As Clover looked down the hillside her eyes filled with tears.

The next ruler of Animal Farm is Napoleon, one of the pigs on the farm. Once he gains control of the farm, he does whatever it takes to strengthen his power. He trains a group of dogs to be his guards, frighten the other animals, and kill for him. He later becomes paranoid and forces the animals to confess to crimes they did not commit, and the, “dogs promptly tore their throats out” (93) to show his power and give an example of what happens when there are crimes committed. When the farm first became Animal Farm, there were a set of commandments set up that all animals need to follow, except for Napoleon.

The other animals didn’t know this because they were loyal to the farm. So Napoleon took that for granted. The animals were making more stone for the windmill, “The animals lashed ropes round these, and then all together cows, horses, sheep, any animal that could lay hold of the rope-even the pigs joined in at critical moments…” (Orwell 74). This is part of the tactic by everyone pitching in to make the farm a better living space for the animals.

Since the animals were like blindfolded, no one made the connection between Boxer's being taken away and the pigs suddenly having more money. The contrast between what the animals believe, what the narrator actually is talking about, and what the reader knows to be the truth, fills one with an anger. (“Animal Farm: Animals Irony”) Animal Farm satirises the breakdown of political ideology and the misuse of power. The major players are animals but their failings are all recognisably human. They begin with an idealistic attempt to form a new society, liberated from the tyranny of humans and founded on the principle of equality and freedom for everyone, but it all goes wrong as the pigs take over.

SNOWBALL! He suddenly roared in a voice of thunder" (47). It was clear that Napoleon wanted to hide the fact that he himself was guilty; however the pigs and him were able to persuade the animals. Next, the pigs convince the animals that their terrible crop season is because of Snowball. “The wheat crop was full of weeds, and Squealer had somehow discovered that on one of his nocturnal visits Snowball has mixed weed seeds with the seed corn."

He worked hard until the day he falls due to lung failure. Instead of treating him, Napoleon sent Boxer to horse slaughter house and lied to the animals that Boxer died in the hospital and even ended his speech with a reminder of Boxer’s two favourite maxims, ’I will work harder’ and’ Comrade Napoleon is always right’. This is what happens to the most faithful animal in the Animal Farm due to Napoleon’s cool-blooded judgment as he could not have any form of benefits from dying Boxer. In the end, the name ‘Animal Farm’ was abolished and changed to ‘Manor Farm’, the original name by Napoleon. The animals start recognizing Napoleon for any good achievement done that day. For example, one of the hens recognizes Napoleon for just one stroke of good fortune. “Under the leadership of our Leader Comrade Napoleon, I have laid five eggs in six days…”(78). These poor animals are tricked into thinking that everything good that happens is due to “Comrade Napoleon's Leadership”. Every quote we see is a deeper level of corruption in Napoleon, and now, his influence on the farm is tearing what the revolution was all about.

In Animals Farm, there is a pig who’s name Napoleon. This character did not contributed to the society with his actions. In effect, he did not respect the concept of “Animalism” which is the equality of all the animals. He did many actions that broke this conception during the entire story. At the beginning, Napoleon, take the farm with Snowball when the farmer, Mr. Jones, left.

Animal Farm illustrates how leaders become corrupt when they abuse their power, treat the population differently based on their status, and the leaders manipulate and oppress the working class. Over the course of the book, Napoleon and the pigs abused their power. After an announcement about trading with the humans for supplies, Squealer

Napoleon also uses manipulation to gain and maintain a firm control by changing the Commandments for the farm in ways that work to his benefit. Squealer, Napoleon’s propaganda department, Keeps the farm animals believing in Napoleon by describing what they hear and see to make it seem harmless. Using effective tactics of fear, convincing propaganda, and manipulation, Napoleon gains and maintains control of Animal Farm. “Animal Farm” has corruption and equality in a way the animals try to succeed and achieve a goal to make the farm better. Power corrupts in “Animal Farm” because the pigs have a goal which is working together and helping one another.

Napoleon ruled animal farm harshly and overworked the animals. Orwell described, “This work was strictly voluntary, but any animal who absented himself from it would have his rations reduced by half” (Orwell 59). The animal’s are given a choice in the sense that if they wanted to, they could have Sundays off. However, the brutal consequences the animals would face if they did not work forced the animals to listen to the pigs.

It is obvious to see Napoleon as a dictator when viewing the farm’s government as a tyranny. He is the main symbol of authoritarianism in the novel. Another important symbol are the dogs. They represent the military in the Animal Farm government. Napoleon orders them to kill other animals, like a president giving orders to the troops.
