They have two national forests, sixteen state forests, and forty four state parks! Or you could visit the capitol, Richmond. Or go climbing up Mt. Rodgers. Or, go visit the largest city in Virginia, Virginia beach! Or go white water rafting down the James river!
The state of Virginia has many symbols. The fish is the Brook trout. The flower is the American dogwood. Shell, Oyster shell. Bird, Cardinal. Tree, Flowering dogwood. Insect, Swallowtail butterfly. Dog, american foxhound. State boat, Chesapeake Bay Deadrise. State dance, Square dance! They even have a catch phrase! Virginia is for lovers.

Mount Vernon is a two story mansion, and is ten times larger than the average colonial home in Virginia. It was home to George Washington the United States first Chief Executive, and esteemed leader of the colonial armies. Living there since he was three, Mount Vernon was a large source of George Washington's revenue, which led to him becoming a major leader of Virginia (nps.gov). In 1735, the home was owned by Augustine Washington the father of George Washington. After Augustine passed away, the estate was bequeathed to Lawrence Washington the half brother of George in 1754 (mountvernon.org).
In a “Town Hall” meeting, the citizens of Kentucky Valley agreed to ask J. J. Walter, the school teacher, to come up with a new name for their town. He came up with the name Romance. Some say the name was selected because it was such a romantic place. Others believed the name was chosen because there was a lot of romancing there; especially under the pavilion at the edge of the creek. For a time Cliffy Creek was called Courtin’ Creek, but eventually the creek became known as Desark Creek.

Colonial Williamsburg shows life in the 1700’s as the Revolutionary war was heating up and how the different people went about their daily routines, along with showing architecture dating back to the 17 and 1800s. One of the most important buildings there is the Capitol, originally built in 1705, the Capitol is deeply entwined throughout Virginian history as a link to the colonial times when American colonists struggled to rise for independence. The Capitol had great importance during colonial times and still holds value with the citizens in Williamsburg and all over the country. It, also has a strong connection with the motto “That the future may learn from the past”. This building is deeply deserving of a commemorative coin because it held the Governor’s Council and the House of Burgesses, helped us learn tyranny was unjust, and was built by contractor Henry Cary who created the Wren building.

It took 3 hours to drive from Va to Nc but it was worth it. We were there for a week. The beach was only about a 5 minute walk from our front door.
