The Kansas City Vampire Amy Carney Johnson & Wales University Have you ever wondered, what drives a person to kill innocent people? Every Criminologist asks themselves the same question, along with people who are either related to victims of serial killings, or simply hear about them on the news. I think it is safe to say that the people who might ask that question the most are parents of serial killers, who had never expected their own children to carry out such violent and inhumane acts. In 2001, Marc Vincent Sappington officially became labeled as a serial killer at the age of twenty-one years old. The main reason for his spontaneous killings was not due to his upbringing like most serial killers, but instead was caused by his involvement with drugs.
We can all come to an agreement that serial killers are both horrendous and unpredictable human beings. Most acts of violence we hear about are committed by serial killers. Unsatisfied with their previous actions, serials killers look to execute more victims. In most cases, the upbringing of the individual plays a huge role on the killer. Because of their twisted techniques and motives, some of these killers are infamously known to be the most frightening criminals in history.

Kenneth McDuff was known as The Broomstick Killer, but what started his journey to become this infamous person? Growing up, McDuff had a fine childhood, his dad ran a successful concrete business, and was the fifth of six children. His mother wasn’t exactly a favorable parent. She was nicknamed “pistol-packing mama" because she threatened a school bus driver with a gun after the driver kicked McDuff's older brother off the bus. Mcduff’s mother was seen as “domineering” and encouraged his behaviors.
Emily Decius Sociology 361 Term Paper November 16, 2017 Of the many serial killers that have terrorized the nation throughout history, there are a few that stand out from the rest, one being Theodore Bundy. He became much more famous than others, and his story is rather interesting but has been constantly changed and promoted by the media. In total, it is estimated that Bundy murdered anywhere between 36 to 100+ victims, and there are still many bodies that have not been found (Sullivan, 2009). Bundy had always seemed to be a somewhat normal person through his younger years, and it seemed to most people like he would be successful in life (Sullivan, 2009). He excelled in school, attended college, and at one point even enrolled in law school (Sullivan, 2009).

Serial killers have many motives on why they kill the people they do. Many serial killers come from a dark childhood where they could have been molested by either a mother or a father and that could lead them on to molest and murder other small children. A serial killer known as Gary Ridgway killed and murdered over what is to believe seventy eight prostitutes. I was able to look through many articles and background information on many different credible websites. These sources gave me credible and honest information on how and why Gary Ridgway killed the people he did and why in general serial killers kill the people they do.

The social deviance After watching multiple television shows, I noticed a connection of deviant behavior portrayed within fictional television. For example, the Dexter show. The Dexter show is about a man that is a blood analyst for the Metrolina police Department. Who has a family, yet is a serial killer at night targeting proper traders that has never been caught for their crimes by the law. For instance, in episode “Hello, Dexter Morgan”.
Serial killers are usually shaped into killers because of their traumatic childhoods. Childhood is supposed to be unforgettable and the most important time of a person's life. However these serial killers had childhoods that anyone would rather forget. Pedro alonso Lopez became a serial killer because of his appling experience in his youth. Also Henry lee Lucas was a serial killer as a result from his horrendous childhood.
Serial killers are not the same as mass murderers , nor are they spree killers, who commit murders in two or more locations with virtually no break in between.
All in all, their criminal careers
The belief that there is a criminal gene that may be passed down is a fallacy. Looking at genes specifically in order to classify a criminal and possibly justify that notion is not able to stand. One of the ways this is negated is with adoption. Your genes at this point are only the foundation of what kind of body shape you have, how your early temperaments start, and possibly what kind of life span you will have. The parents you may be adopted into are not your birth parents, and they would be totally different in the biological sense.
