Differences Between The 1700s To The 1890s

Throughout history many factors have affected the way the country was shaped. In the political sense, however, the major factors would be that of domestic and foreign affairs. During the 1790’s, the nation was going through many drastic changes in order to attempt to make the country a long last success. The most significant changes made thanks the country’s domestic affairs would include the Alien and Sedition Acts, loose vs. strict interpretation acts and the Whiskey Rebellion. Both foreign and domestic affairs helped shape American policies in the 1790’s however, domestic affairs helped the country on a much greater scale.

The course text states that in the mid-1800s many people in the United States felt a sense of uniqueness about the United States that helped drive westward expansion. As the course text elaborates, “rooted in Puritan utopianism and revolutionary republicanism, this sense of uniqueness and mission also stemmed from the rapid growth and progress of the early nineteenth century” (365). Since its inception in 1787, the U.S. Constitution has been considered as the oldest and most influential document. It laid down the principles and foundation which helped shape U.S. as a nation, and the more than one hundred countries that used it as a model for creating their own Constitution (Constitutionfacts.com, n.a.). But the circumstances during its creation were critical. The American War of Independence (1775-1783) against Great Britain had ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris that gave sovereignty to the U.S. in 1783.

In America’s past events there are many moments in which were impactful to this country’s history. One of the most impactful eras would have to be World War II and the 1940s. The growth of technology through atomic bombs leaving an impact on America’s view in modern times for future events and political events such as GI Bill of Rights to help veterans with certain programs when they come home from a war that continues to be used today. As well as issues of race and gender were faced with women and African Americans working in which influenced the working environment today. Comparing all the eras that were discussed, the least impactful era was during the 1970s.

On May 25, 1787, our forefathers gathered at the Philadelphia convention, to write on a document that shaped this country for the better. James Madison presented the Constitution and Bill of Rights to the convention in Philadelphia along with Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of independence. On September 17, 1787, the constitution was signed. Later came the Bill of Rights which was later signed on December 15, 1791.

In the late 1800’s manifest destiny had taken over and many were moved to the west. With this movement came new inventions designed to make life easier and more productive, but it had a negative effect on the nation contrary to popular belief. The expansion of the railroads during the late 1800’s had a negative effect on many, including the natives Americans and other businesses. The Native Americans were the most affected by the expansion of the railroad. The first thing the iron roadway affected was the native American food source, the buffalo.

The education system improved vastly after having schools with poor education that teach little and schools that make it hard for the poor to go to. American art changed greatly when America developed their own style and many books were written that are famous today like Moby-Dick.
